Escherian puzzler Monument Valley 2 released on iOS
06 Jun, 2017
Experience surreal architecture and help a mother-child duo overcome puzzle challenges in Monument Valley 2, sequel to one of the best mobile games made.
Monument Valley 2 was announced yesterday at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference, where it was also released for iOS devices, specifically iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. The developers, ustwo Games, also made the original Monument Valley, a calming puzzle game set in a world of strange geometry.
Monument Valley 2 appears to bring more of the same, and is set in the same universe as the original game. The developers make it clear, however, that you do not need to have played the first Monument Valley to enjoy this one. In the sequel, you control two protagonists: Ro, and her child. Together, they’re out to discover the secrets of ‘the Sacred Geometry’. The game has more of a story focus than its predecessor, but still does not offer any lengthy cutscenes or expositions.

Although the game has been released exclusively on iOS at present, The Verge claims that an Android version is under development and will be released ‘soon’. The article also talks about how the development team has expanded from eight to twenty, and it was the influx of new developers that encouraged the studio to try their hand a sequel.
The original Monument Valley was released in 2014 and was critically acclaimed for its visuals and puzzles. Later that same year, Monument Valley also saw its first expansion, ‘Forgotten Shores’, which added eight more levels to the game (the original had ten). The following year, the game came out on Windows Phone, because that platform apparently still exists.
You can get Monument Valley 2 over at the App Store. There’s also an official website, with pretty words and prettier pictures.
