Horror game Perception releases in May for PC, PS4 and Xbox One

The Deep End Games have confirmed that Perception will be launching next month. Here’s how this one is survival horror with a very particular twist.

Perception will release on May 30th, according to a new trailer released by The Deep End Games and Feardemic. The game will launch simultaneously on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

As far as horror games go, Perception has a really interesting hook going for it. Unlike most games, the protagonist in Perception, Cassie, is blind, which means she is forced to perceive the world around her through echolocation. The world she perceives literally pulses and throbs as she uses her cane to help her ‘see’. The game’s enemies are attracted by sound, however, so Cassie must simultaneously balance her own need for perception with her safety.

The game’s story involves Cassie being tormented by dreams of a Massachusetts estate. Cassie finds the estate after months of research, and travels there. That’s where the game picks up. This probably isn’t a spoiler to say, but spooky goings-on follow and Cassie must find a way to both survive and solve the mystery of the place she’s in.

Developer The Deep End Games is largely composed of industry veterans who worked on Dead Space and BioShock titles, so expect some top-notch horror chops out of the team. Despite the combat focus of those games, the developers have made it clear that there will be no shotguns or magic powers helping Cassie survive her ordeal. What a shame. I was hoping for a female-fronted video game remake of Don’t Breathe.

Overseeing and publishing the game is Feardemic, a new publishing label exclusively for horror games, owned by the same people who made the horror game Layers of Fear. This the first game for both The Deep End Games and Feardemic. Check out the official site here.
