Coffee Talk Tokyo Review – Brewing Regrets

Coffee Talk Tokyo Best Ending Walkthrough

Cozy games with a touch of narrative can never go wrong, and that is the case with the Coffee Talk series. The first two games of this franchise were well received, and personally, I adore them to death. With the recent release of its third game, Coffee Talk Tokyo, brewing coffee with tears was not on my bingo list. The game introduces its cast gradually as you progress, and while you only get 15 in-game days to spend with them, it’s unimaginable how real everyone feels.

Indulging In The Evenings

Coffee Talk Tokyo Day 11 - Day 15

The day in Coffee Talk Tokyo officially begins in the evening, when the Barista opens their cafe and waits for the customers to come in. It’s not like the whole story starts developing right from the first day, but there are numerous character relationships in the works, off-screen. As you progress through the game, these relationships grow stronger.

Every evening in the game comes with a certain serenity and comfort that no words can describe. Watching all the characters communicate with each other, growing as individuals, and discussing their futures while you’re serving them their favorite brews is a feeling I didn’t know I needed to feel when I played the first game. And with Coffee Talk Tokyo, this feeling reached a new peak.

Coffee Talk Tokyo Review

The customers are one thing, but your assistant barista Vin, is the odd one out. They survived a near-death accident, and now are living thanks to unfortunately glitching-out prosthetics. Despite everything, they thrive and try their best to stay active during the cafe’s working hours. No matter how long a break they take, the Barista remains patient with them; it’s likely a metaphor, reminding us to remain patient with people, no matter how long they live in their own bubble.

Vin’s story, however, is a smaller part of the picture, but it’s also the most important one. Every customer who walks into the cafe faces a burden of their own – unheard voices that continue to echo in their head. Coffee Talk Tokyo doesn’t sugarcoat mental health struggles, instead presenting them naturally rather than relying on dramatic twists; of which there are a few nonetheless.

Coffee Talk Tokyo Day Seven - Day Ten

Personally, I find that the most impressive part of the game is how interconnected everyone feels. A conversation in the beginning will come to fruition numerous evenings later. All the stories have their own conclusions, with multiple branches that ultimately depend on how good your brew is. The more accurately you brew to the customer’s needs, the greater chances you will have to unlock the best endings for everyone.

It indulges you in every conversation, reeling you in the characters’ conversations as you watch them stumble, learn, and gradually find their place in each other’s lives. The last few cups of the story will be served with tears.

Tokyo’s Coziest Cafe

Most customers of Coffee Talk Tokyo return to the café because of how cozy it is, and of course, the Barista’s magical blends. Brewing coffee is still the heart of this experience, and Coffee Talk Tokyo treats it with the same care and attention to detail as its predecessors. Presented with a handful of items, there is plenty of room for experimentation. However, if you’re going for the best endings for everyone, it unfortunately rules that experimentation out.

Brewing mechanics are easy to understand; there is a base, a primary ingredient, and a secondary ingredient. Crafting new recipes on a whim and learning about a customer’s preference adds a layer of engagement far greater than just reading instructions. It is your cafe. You are the Barista. Every drink you brew contributes to the immersion of the game.

Coffee Talk Tokyo Review

What I love the most about Coffee Talk Tokyo is its ambience and sound design. The sounds of grinding coffee beans, customers walking and taking a sip, pouring coffee into cups, and Tokyo’s rush hour complement the game’s atmosphere and amplify the overall experience.

Verdict

Coffee Talk Tokyo is a culmination of everything I love about the previous Coffee Talk games and excels in every aspect. While this may not be everyone’s cup of tea, it’s an absolute ride from start to finish for those who strive to see beyond the veil of “cozy” games. An emotional adventure worth every second!
