Cooking Simulator 2 is an in-depth game about running a restaurant. There are several aspects you need to look into every day, including stocking ingredients, planning a menu, preparing dishes, and ensuring that they are up to the customer’s liking. Other than a few minor tweaks that could make the overall gameplay less tedious, it’s a solid entry to the restaurant management genre.

Preparing The Menu

Your first task before you open is preparing a menu, which you can execute well during the day shift. The game does a good job of mentioning how hard and expensive your menu is going to be. Here is where your planning skills are tested, and more options will be available to you as you progress. There really isn’t much guidance here, and you will only learn this through kitchen experience.
As an aspiring chef, you can also make tweaks in any recipe to create your own versions. This is where you can add creativity to the technical aspects of the recipe. You can change ingredients and even the utensils required to cook them to possibly cook something new from an existing dish.

Once your menu is all set, you need to make sure you own all the ingredients and utensils required to cook them. The shop menu is very well organized into different categories. It also shows you the ingredients that are out of stock for the menu, and the ingredients you are running low on. You can also click on an item on that tab to find it instantly in the shop. There are also two kinds of deliveries, express and regular.
Your teammates cannot set up the menu themselves, but to make it convenient, they can still suggest to you what they want on it. As the head chef, you will be making the call here.
Executing The Dish

The game doesn’t leave you lost; you can pin the recipe from your computer and then follow it precisely. The process of cooking is really detailed. You need to gather the exact amount of ingredients from the shelf. Then you need to follow the procedure step by step. If you get the timing or the cut wrong, your overall dish quality will be compromised. There are assisted features which will help you accomplish that.
There are instances where you don’t get much guidance. You may figure it out sometimes easily, especially if you have played the previous game. But, to check out the detailed instructions, you may have to load it in the tweaks book.
At the start, it can get overwhelming, especially if your menu is too complicated. In rush hours, you may also find a few of the customers leaving or running out of ingredients. This may make the gameplay tedious for you; however, the game does try to solve the issue in various ways.
Perk It Up

I like how the game adds kitchen upgrades, which improve the efficiency of the preparation steps. You can also obtain perks that will generally help you provide better service to your customers.
You are mostly free to do what you like in career mode, but the game also adds goals in the form of quests. These are simple goals which you can complete during your shift, and as you progress, more chefs are unlocked.
You can also acquire new skills, which are unlocked using your skill points. This is where your renown will matter as well, increasing the incentive to provide even better service.
Ending The Day

At the end of the day, you can clean up your kitchen or even set up decorations to customize it to your liking. You can then return home, and each player gets their separate rooms. So, you won’t have to deal with cleaning up anyone’s mess.
At your home, there is a free kitchen, which you can use to practice your cooking. You are also given a couple of ingredients to experiment with.
