What the duck? The Duck Detective, Eugene McQuacklin is back! For his second mystery, the Duck Detective finds himself dragged to ‘glamorous camping’, or ‘glamping’, if you will.
Accompanied by his biggest fan, the alligator Freddy Frederson, the Duck Detective finds himself in the middle of an increasingly complex mystery. Stolen camping chairs, a spooky sanatorium, rituals in the sand, a pompous influencer… there’s no shortage of mysterious events, suspicious suspects, and carefully collected clues.

Back to the Deducktions
If you’ve played the Duck Detective’s first adventure, the Secret Salami (and you really should), you’ll know what to expect from The Ghost of Glamping.
The game is a roughly 2-hour affair that follows the principles set by the likes of Return of the Obra Dinn and The Case of the Golden Idol. You collect clues by examining the environment, staring at characters, and then questioning them. Once you have all the clues, you fill in the blanks in your journal, and if you’re right, the case is marked solved with a satisfying stamp.

A Laugh Aloud Mystery
The game maintains its signature brand of humor, which parodies hardboiled detective fiction while also lampooning modern-day staples like influencers and Pokémon Go. It’s light-hearted, and above all, a very comfy adventure to spend an afternoon on.
That said, it’s easy for a humorous mystery to end up feeling inconsequential. The Ghost of Glamping dodges this trap admirably. It starts off with rather simple mysteries, such as finding out who Freddy’s girlfriend is, and evolves over time. The stakes get higher, passions get inflamed, and privacy is violated left and right as the Duck Detective reads everyone’s laptops with impunity.

A Finely Polished Beak
The Ghost of Glamping may not seem like much with its short length, but its isometric environments are dense with environmental storytelling. The game’s mysteries may be on the easier side, but they still require you to pay attention to what is being said and shown.
Crafting an adventure like this could not have been a simple affair, given that the game shines with humour, accessible puzzles, and carefully-crafted mystery-solving, all without missing a beat. The emotive and comic voice-acting adds to the polish, bringing alive the game’s amusing (and suspicious) characters.

In Quack-lusion
Developer Happy Broccoli Games is confident in how it’s handling the Duck Detective series, where we’ll presumably get one 2-hour adventure every year, much like a season of a TV show. The Ghost of Glamping may be short, but it’s presented with an assuredness that’s lacking in some longer, more thorough games.
If you’re up for a quick, funny adventure that’ll test your observational skills and make you rub your brain cells together, you can’t go wrong with Duck Detective: The Ghost of Glamping. And if you’ve played and enjoyed the first game in the series, what are you waiting for?
