For almost exactly 40 years now, globetrotting sleuths have been asking – Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? Starting off in 1985, the Carmen Sandiego series of games has inspired films, game shows, animated shows, and even plays and musicals.
Now, Carmen Sandiego is back in a video game, and this time, she’s allying herself with the ACME Detective Agency to take down the VILE syndicate.
Where in the world will Carmen Sandiego go?
In the upcoming game Carmen Sandiego, you’ll play as the titular thief herself for the first time in the series. Her mission to take down VILE operatives will take her across world-famous destinations in Brazil, Japan, Australia, India, Iceland, Egypt, and more.

How does the game play?
As Carmen, you’ll be able to explore worldwide locations directly, and her tools allow her to glide across rooftops and grapple to positions of advantage.
Tracking suspects is no mean feat though, and Carmen will have to make use of night vision, ultraviolet, and thermal imaging to get to her adversaries before they evade capture.
On collecting clues and solving puzzles, Carmen will fill up the target VILE operative’s dossier and uncover their identity. Getting as much information as possible is crucial, as you’ll need to issue a warrant before making any arrests.
Is Carmen Sandiego related to the Netflix series?
Carmen Sandiego is being developed by Gameloft, and takes ‘plot cues’ from the Netflix series of the same name, which ran for four seasons from 2019 to 2021. As in the series, Carmen is the protagonist of the story – a master thief trained by VILE, but now working against the shady organization.
Where can I play Carmen Sandiego?
Carmen Sandiego is available via Netflix Games on iOS and Android now, but it will see a wider release across PC, Switch, Xbox, and PlayStation on March 4, 2025.
The game’s Standard Digital Edition will retail at $29.99 USD, but there’s also a Deluxe Digital Edition at $49.99, that includes an art book, a digital soundtrack, and in-game content.
As the game marks the 40th year of the series, there’s also a celebratory 40th Anniversary physical edition that will launch in late April, exclusively on Switch and PlayStation 5. This edition will include, apart from the digital edition content, a global map, location stickers, an exclusive sleeve, and exclusive in-game content.For more information on the game, check out the game’s official website here.
