Slithery collect-o-platformer Snake Pass gets a March release date
17 Feb, 2017
Developer Sumo Digital has announced that its first original game, the snakey platformer Snake Pass, will come out in March on PC, PS4, Switch and Xbox One.
Sure, you might have played as Solid Snake. You might have even played as Naked Snake. Or even Punished “Venom” Snake, perchance. But have you ever played as a real snake? Well, if you played Snake on an old Nokia phone, probably, yes. But lo and behold, Sumo Digital is working on another game about a snake who loves collecting things: Snake Pass.
We previously mentioned Snake Pass when we learned it’s releasing on the Nintendo Switch, but here’s something fresh: the game will be releasing on that platform, alongside PC, PS4 and Xbox One on 29th March in Europe (and 28th March in North America). This makes it a rare multi-platform launch that’s arriving on the Switch, considering the platform’s release line-up mainly boasts ports of existing games and exclusives.
Snake Pass is a physics-based platformer that uniquely uses challenges and puzzles that can only be solved by its reptilian protagonist, Noodle the snake. It looks bright and colourful, and is engineered to evoke the same sense of bouncy fun as 3D platformers from the Nintendo 64 era. Have a look at the new release date trailer below to a sense of the slithering you’ll be dealing with.
The game has been shown around in trade shows and conventions quite a bit, and much has been said about its controls. Understandably, creating a 3D platformer in which you control a snake has to be an challenge. Come March, we’ll see just how well developer Sumo Digital has managed that hurdle.
Snake Pass will take advantage of the PS4 Pro to deliver higher resolutions on 4K televisions, while the Xbox One version will be released as a Play Anywhere title, allowing you to play the game seamlessly on Windows 10 as well.
