Super Meat Boy to release on Switch next month with new Race Mode

The indie tornado on the Switch continues to rage as Team Meat is bringing over the classic indie title Super Meat Boy. Now you can race your friends, too.

It may have been over 7 years since it originally released on computers, but Super Meat Boy is making another console splash. Developer Team Meat has announced that Super Meat Boy will release on the Switch on 11th January 2018. The Switch port is not coming empty-handed, either. It’s bringing along a whole new feature: Race Mode, in which you can race your friends across levels.

According to the developers, Race Mode is something the team was keen on having since the original release of the game back in 2010. It took a while, but it’s finally made it to the game now, 7 years later. You can see the Race Mode in action in the picture above. The race will be split-screen and will take place across the entirety of the game, it seems. Progress is visible in the form of both levels completed and a progress lines on top of the screen.

Developed by prolific indie developer Edmund McMillen (The Binding of Isaac, The End is Nigh) and Tommy Refenes, Super Meat Boy is a brutally hard platformer that is characterised by split-second timing and lots of dying.

Super Meat Boy screenshotSuper Meat Boy is presently available on PC, Mac, Linux, PS4, PS Vita and Wii U. If you’d like to pick it up on the cheap, it’s discounted by a massive 90% on Steam right now. Definitely not a bad price if you want to try it before deciding on a Switch purchase.

If you really love dying on pointy things a lot before making it to your goal, check out another indie classic: VVVVVV, which is also coming to Steam. Similar gameplay can be found in Super Rude Bear Resurrection.
