Swery’s The Good Life gets new trailer and deets as Fig campaign begins
03 Sep, 2017
In Deadly Premonition director Swery’s next game, a New York photographer to a British village where people turn into cats at night. This is The Good Life.
Swery is back with The Good Life: a brand new murder mystery involving a strange town out in the boonies. There’s a lot that’s familiar in the premise right there, but considering there’s nothing else quite like Deadly Premonition, it can be excused.
While we’ll miss Deadly Premonition’s Francis York Morgan, it probably shouldn’t take too long to warm up to Naomi, the photographer protagonist of Swery’s next game. She finds herself in what is the self-proclaimed ‘happiest town in the world’, where she must now get to the root of a murder. By day, she’ll be taking pictures and exploring leads. By night, she’ll turn into a cat like the rest of the village and explore places she couldn’t explore before.
Swery’s studio White Owls has now released new details about The Good Life, which you can check out on the official Fig campaign page. It seems that Naomi is trying to pay off a debt, and that the gameplay will involve photography, extensive camera customisation, side jobs and money management.
White Owls wants a total of $1.5 million to finish the project. There’s approximately 39 days to go for the campaign, so if you’re still waiting for that paycheck, don’t stress it.
The studio has also released a new trailer for the game, which confirms that it will be a 3D, third-person adventure.
The Good Life is estimated to release sometime in the third quarter of 2019. No platforms have been explicitly announced, but the FAQ at the end of the Fig campaign page implies that the game will be available on PC and PS4.
More Japanese-made mysteries can be solved in Tokyo Dark, which is releasing this Thursday. If you’d rather just settle down for a life in the boonies, have a look at good ol’ Stardew Valley.
