Salt and Sanctuary brings your Dark Souls fix to Switch when it releases next week

Dark Souls Remastered might be taking its own sweet time heading to the Switch, but you can get an indie equivalent next week instead: Salt and Sanctuary.

Salt and Sanctuary is on its way to the Nintendo Switch, and it’ll be dropping on 2nd August. While the original game was developed by husband-wife duo Ska Studios, the port has been handled by BlitWorks.

BlitWorks is a tried and true port developer, with a prolific library of ported indies. They’ve ported the likes of Spelunky 2, Don’t Starve, Owlboy, Darkest Dungeon, Full Metal Furies, Starbound, Sunless Sea, and many, many more. Find out more about them on their official website here.

As for Salt and Sanctuary, the Switch version will set you back $17.99 on the Nintendo eShop. A special physical release is also being worked on, and it’s titled “Salt and Sanctuary: Drowned Tome Edition”, which will release sometime this holiday season. More details are to be revealed.

The Switch version of the game will include all the features of previous versions of the game, including local co-op and New Game+. There don’t seem to be any hot new features for the Switch version, though.

Here’s what the Dark Souls-inspired title is all about:

A doomed sailor is shipwrecked on an uncharted island. In fog-shrouded valleys, where grinning, mossy corpses cling to rusted arms, shambling figures begin to stir. Beneath crumbling, salt-worn structures, labyrinthine passageways lead to unspeakable evil, long forgotten by man.

Salt and Sanctuary seamlessly combines fast, brutal, and complex 2D combat with richly developed RPG mechanics. Discover, craft, and upgrade over 600 weapons, armor pieces, spells, and items as you explore a cursed realm of forgotten cities, blood-soaked dungeons, desecrated monuments, and the fallen lords they once celebrated.

Salt and Sanctuary is presently available on PC, Mac, Linux, PS4 and PS Vita. The game supports cross-buy for its PS4 and PS Vita versions. Find out more on the game’s official website here.
