Brain-melting rhythm game Thumper to release on iOS in January 2018

After touring computers, consoles and VR, Thumper is ready to lay down its gig on smartphones. Prepare to lose your mind and thumbs next month.

Thumper is one of the best games of last year, and it involves a space beetle going up against a maniacal head and terrifying geometric structures, all the while thumping its way through challenging rhythm tracks. Don’t expect peppy dance numbers in this rhythm game though, Thumper’s rhythm music is entire built on horror and stress.

Developer Drool is now bringing the game to your phone (provided you have an Apple phone) with Thumper: Pocket Edition. This version of the game is releasing on 24th January 2018, and will bring the familiar anxiety-inducing “rhythm violence” action to your iOS device. It’s priced at a measly $4.99, as opposed to the $19.99 price tag on the PC version.

According to the description, the game can be played in both portrait and landscape modes, and features all nine levels from the non-mobile versions of the game. You can even play the game with one hand. The developers do, however, recommend using wired headphones or integrated speakers, as wireless headphones can introduce audio latency. For a game based around thumping along to (terrifying) music, you don’t want any latency.

The game weighs in at 203 MB, is rated 9+ and is available for pre-order right now.

Thumper is presently available on PC, PS4, Xbox One and Switch. It also has VR support via PS VR, Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. Here’s the official website.

Also releasing on iOS is the wondertabulous puzzler Gorogoa. And for something that’s already out, have a look at Monument Valley 2.
