Welcome to the Into Indie Games beginner tips and tricks guide for Maseylia: Echoes of the Past.
Maseylia: Echoes of the Past is an exploration-heavy 3D Metroidvania where you journey through a non-linear, interconnected world. Over the course of your adventure, you’ll unlock many extraordinary abilities, which in turn unlock hidden paths that lead to new upgrades. This is a game that highly rewards exploration and curiosity.
Of course, this also means that the early hours of the game can be pretty challenging as you don’t know where to go. Here are some tips and tricks to keep in mind as you explore the vast world of Maseylia.

Always Check the Map
The map is your best friend in Maseylia: Echoes of the Past. The world is massive, and it’s hard to keep track of all the places you’ve been to and the places left to explore. Thankfully, the map does a great job of letting you sort everything out.
The map gives you a snapshot of the location, complete with a rough overview of the landmarks. So you can easily differentiate the areas where you haven’t explored fully. However, the map isn’t unlocked by default when you reach a new zone. You’ll have to look for the Recon Scanner Robot, typically found near the first or second save point of the zone, and buy the Map in exchange for Gold.
Because of how important the map is, we suggest always keeping 30-50 Gold in your pouch before you head off to a new zone.
Strafe During Combat
Combat isn’t really the true highlight of Maseylia: Echoes of the Past. The general combat encounters, at least during the early stage, are pretty simple. But since you start with only three hit points, and getting hit removes three hit points, you’ll have to be careful with your movement during combat.
The most important thing to remember is to not stand still. Whether you’re fighting with a ranged enemy or one that gets up close, you should always be strafing to the side to avoid their attacks. Projectile attacks from ranged enemies are pretty easy to dodge, but for melee enemies, a good trick is to use the Lock On and then circle around them while hitting them with your Scepter.
Since the combat encounters are simple, you don’t want to take any unnecessary hits. You’ll need every bit of your health points for the parkour sections, as they can get challenging pretty quickly.
Gold Management
Gold is the main resource of the game, and you’ll need it to buy items from merchants, unlock the map, or even activate the teleporter. You can get Gold by defeating monsters or by breaking Gold Ores that spawn in certain areas of the environment. While monsters drop only a few, Gold Ores generally give you a decent chunk of Gold for breaking them. On top of that, the Gold Ores respawn so you can farm for gold pretty easily.
The main catch here is that there’s a limit to how much Gold you can carry. The pouch icon in the top-right corner of your screen is your Gold Pouch. As you collect Gold, it starts to fill up. When it’s full (300 Gold by default), you can’t grab any extra Gold.
You can buy Gold Pouch upgrades from a merchant that will increase its capacity. So whenever you reach a new zone, keep an eye out for these merchants.
Collecting Important Upgrades
There are a wide variety of upgrades to be found in Maseylia: Echoes of the Past. You can buy things like Health Upgrades, Gold Pouch Capacity Upgrade, or even the Map from merchants by spending your Gold. But you can also find Health and Mana Upgrades along with new abilities by exploring the environment. Some of these abilities are also hidden, which means if you’re not checking every nook and cranny, you can miss out on them.
Exploration is the main idea of the game. So check each zone thoroughly and keep an eye on the map completion percentage before you move on to the next zone. If you see a path you can’t reach, you’ll need to unlock a new ability for it that’s usually found by exploring nearby areas.
Learn the Zone Gimmick
Each zone in the game has a different gimmick that you must learn and master to get through the area. For example, The Frozen Heights, which is technically the first big zone of the game, is filled with icy surfaces where you slide around and must control your movement if you don’t want to fall off. There are also underwater sections where you need to bump into air bubbles to refill your air and get past.
The next zone you enter, called The Luminfen Forest, is basically one giant poisonous swamp. But there are Purple Orbs that let you surf over the poison and Yellow Orbs that act as teleporters spread out in the region. Master these mechanics to make it through each zone.
