Of Ash and Steel has recently been released, and while it has some performance issues, the game offers a solid RPG experience. It is inspired by the likes of the Gothic series and does an excellent job of providing a sense of isolation. You are not truly isolated, but since there is no hand-holding, you have to figure out most things on your own. The hints are also quite vague, so unless you try hard, you will remain clueless.

You will not have access to a map early on, which makes the whole journey quite difficult. As many challenges will occur during your time in the Grayshaft, we at Into Indie Games decided to create some useful guides and walkthroughs. This is the main hub for the game, and I will update it regularly with new guides and walkthroughs.

The following are all important Of Ash And Steel walkthroughs:

Fox’s Flawless Plan

Fox, as the name suggests, is a cunning NPC. He will be one of the first characters you meet in the Grayshaft during Act One. Upon talking to him, a quest titled Fox’s Flawless Plan will be triggered. In this quest, you are tasked with collecting three stashes for him, but he eventually betrays you and locks you up. Here you can find out where to locate the three stashes, how to escape the locked house, and how to track down Fox after he betrays you.

Bad Neighborhood

As you explore the Abandoned Village, you will come across another NPC, Radim. You will hear him after crossing the wooden bridge. When you speak to him, a quest titled Bad Neighborhood will be triggered. In this quest, you must find Elanor’s four wheels, which can be quite troublesome. To solve this quest as quickly and easily as possible, read my walkthrough.

Knee-Deep In The Ground

Another side quest, Knee-Deep in the Ground, is given by Mix, one of the early-game NPCs. This quest is quite difficult and can take a lot of time to complete, mainly because you may not figure out how to reach the woodcutter’s camp. The first two spots are not too hard to find, but the third one is. With the help of my tips, you will be able to complete this quest with ease.

The Long Road Home

Your main quest, after doing some chores, is to go to the harbor and make a deal. Getting to the harbor can be quite tricky and time-consuming. However, after spending some time in the game, I managed to figure out a shortcut to reach the city. I have mentioned both the normal route and the shortcut in my walkthrough, so choose whichever you prefer and head to the harbor to make the deal.

Friends In High Places

Friends in High Places is one of the most complicated quests in Of Ash and Steel. This quest requires you to find the Order’s base and the Freemen’s headquarters on your own. While finding the Order’s base is not that hard, the Freemen’s headquarters can be a real pain to locate. Check out my guide to learn how to find both bases easily.

Joining The Free Hunters (The Trials Of Resolve)

The most challenging quest that you are going to face in Act One is Joining the Free Hunters. This is a pretty challenging and long quest, as you will have to find many different items in different places. You will also have to talk to several different NPCs, and finding them can be a drag. Read my complete walkthrough to know exactly what to do to complete this quest easily.

The Best There Is, The Return & The Man With The Man-Of-War Tattoo

Once you have completed Act One, the next few quests are not going to be that challenging. However, they will include finding a man named Irvin. You will have to locate his home and then find him at another location. Following that, he will accompany you to visit Mazhar. My walkthrough will help you find him and then complete the next quests easily.

From “Underground Pests” To “Impenetrable Fort”

Mazhar tasks you with defeating the bugs in the tunnel. You will have to defeat a boss and then finish a few more main quests to conclude Act Two. The next two quests are not going to be that challenging, but it may be tough to find the exact locations of the people you are looking for. Also, Impenetrable Fort is an extremely challenging quest, so you may need proper guidance to complete it. My walkthrough makes all of these quests extremely easy to complete.

The Grayshaft Mines, The Miner’s Debt, & The Information Miner

Once you have completed Act Two, you will be sent to talk to Ratwald. He will then ask you to visit the mines, where you will be locked inside. As a result, the rest of your quests will take place inside the mine, and it can be pretty annoying since you will have to constantly run throughout the area to complete the tasks.
