Tutorial
At the start of the game, you’ll find yourself in a strange white space. Roy will be here as well. Talk to him, and he’ll advise you to be agile above all else. Head right and face the tutorial enemy. You’ll have to dodge three attacks and use five normal attacks.
In the next section, you’ll have to learn how to use Focus and launch a Critical Strike. You can build Focus by aiming the focus laser at the enemy. It keeps building Marks on top of the enemy. These Marks or stacks will remain there until you take damage or land a Strike, which deals a considerable amount of damage compared to your regular slash attacks. However, the meter may deplete over time if you stop focusing on the enemy.

After that, you’ll have to accumulate a total of five Marks on the enemy. You can get a maximum of three marks on an enemy at a single time. After you’ve accumulated enough stacks, you can approach the enemy and launch a Strike attack.
You can also build focus stacks on the enemy if you perform a perfect dodge while the enemy is being focused. This will be your primary source of building stacks when you face more challenging bosses. After this section, you’ll have to fight and defeat the enemy using everything you’ve learned.

Awakening
After completing the tutorial, Ruby will encounter the witch and wake up from the nightmare. Find and talk to Roy and Wiwichi. Roy can tell you more about the Witch and the Bloodstained, while Wiwichi will give you the Talisman Satchel, which allows you to equip a talisman.
If you open Wiwichi’s shop, you’ll find two types of currencies here. One of them is Impure Crystals, which can only be obtained by defeating bosses. The other currency is Blood Dust, which can be obtained by fighting against the bosses or by doing memory boss battles later on.

Once you’ve done everything, exit the Monastery. You’ll have to head to the Western Frontier to face The Beast.

The Beast
The Beast usually uses a two-swing melee combo, where it can switch the second hit for a stone throw. You have to keep focusing on it while avoiding its attacks to build up stacks and then unleash a strike after it is recovering from the melee combo.
The boss may also smash the ground twice with both of its fists clasped together. At the start of the battle, the boss will start to do tackles in your direction thrice. If it has lost at least half of its HP, the boss may summon rock spikes on the ground. You’ll be able to spot where the stones are going to pop up, so stop the focus and try to avoid the spikes.

In the latter half of the battle, The Beast’s stone throw gets stronger as it throws a few more rocks and performs the throw twice. This battle will give you an idea about your approach to the combat in this game. You mostly have to keep focusing enemies to build stacks and then use a strike attack to deal a chunk of damage.
Your regular attacks don’t do much damage, but they can be useful at the end of the battle when the opponent is low on HP.

Once the boss is defeated, you’ll have to perform the execution. Approach the boss and press the buttons shown on the screen to do a successful execution. You’ll obtain an Impure Crystal alongside a lot of Blood Dust.
Interact with the Diamond-shaped jewel that appears in the middle of the arena after the battle to return to the Monastery.

Undying
After you return to the Monastery, talk to Roy by the campfire. He’ll ask you to deliver the soup to the basement. The basement can be reached by going left from the campfire. When you get there, you’ll find the enemy from the tutorial. He can’t die, so you can practice your skills on him. Leave the soup with him and find Wiwichi.
A new path has appeared in the Monastery, to the right of the Goddess statue. When you get there, you’ll find Wiwichi. There’s also a chest here where you can find the Damaged White Talisman. Finding and giving these Damaged Talismans to Wiwichi will allow him to introduce new talismans to his shop. Return to the campfire after talking to Wiwichi, and the day will end.

Faye The Guardian
After waking up, talk to Roy, and you’ll unlock the talent tree. In my opinion, you should get the Explosive Strike ability as soon as possible, as it deals a lot of damage and is useful till end game. Exit the Monastery and head for the Great Capital Bridge. Here, you’ll encounter Faye the Guardian.
Faye summons two swords at the start of the battle. These swords will try to hit you thrice before Faye starts to do something else. You’ll also have to watch out for Faye’s grab attack, where she grows purple momentarily. Try to dodge out of her way while she’s using this attack.

Most of her melee attacks are two-hit combos. These attacks are a little delayed, so you’ll have to get used to the timing. After you’ve taken out 50% of her HP, Faye will summon four swords instead of two. All of these swords will go in different directions.
Faye can teleport to any of these swords in the middle of her sword combos to unleash a fast sword attack or a grab. The sword where she’s going to teleport will twitch lightly before Faye teleports to it. It’s best to focus on defense while the swords are in the arena. After a while, Faye will recall any unused swords back to herself.

Unlike any other boss, Faye will interrupt the execution and run away. Four eyes will also appear on the capital’s door. In a cutscene, Wiwichi will appear and carry Roy back to the Monastery.
Using Darts To Stop Unavoidable Attacks
After returning to the Monastery, you’ll be able to learn multiple skills from all the Blood Dust you’ve gathered so far. If you unlock the Darts skill from the skill menu, Ruby will immediately shift to the tutorial space.
Darts can be used by focusing on the enemy and pressing the B button on the controller. You can also hold the button to charge the darts, and then shoot a bunch of them at once by pressing the button again.

The game will also teach you how to counter attacks that can’t be dodged. These attacks are where the enemy flashes red and jumps into the air. In this case, you’ll have to press the focus button and use the dart button while the enemy is in the air.

Countering Grabs
You can learn this skill before your battle against Faye the Guardian. In the talent tree, learn the move called Sunder Slash. Ruby will immediately shift to the training area.
To use Sunder Slash, you have to focus on an enemy and press the regular attack button while holding the focus button. The attack must connect while the grab is about to make contact with Ruby; otherwise, the counter won’t work. If you’ve done it successfully, you’ll gain a Mark on the enemy, and they’ll get stunned for a short duration. All grab attacks are indicated by a purple glow around the boss.

Dining Hall
After defeating Faye the Guardian at the capital gate, another mysterious door will open inside the Monastery. Head right from the Goddess Statue and you’ll find yourself in the dining hall. Talk to Wiwichi, and he’ll tell you that the food feels flavorless.
There’s a flower here on the table. It feels like it’s glitching out. Touch the flower, and you’ll enter the white space. Here, you’ll have to interact with the shadows to uncover the memories inside the Monastery.

There’s also a chest here to the right side of the hall. Once you’re done, talk to Wiwichi again. After that, you’ll have to return to the campfire to end the day. While you prepare to sleep, Wiwichi will assure you that Roy will be fine after what happened with Faye the Guardian.

The Capital Gate
After defeating Faye the Guardian, Roy will tell you that there are four mana sources, two to the north and two to the south, that you have to defeat to gain access to the Capital.
Now, you can go North or South depending on your preference. All four of these bosses are equally challenging, except the Plaguebearer, which is the second boss in the south.

The Gravekeeper (South)
The Gravekeeper can be found if you go to the Hallowed Rest area, which is to the South of the Capital. In the intro cutscene, the Gravekeeper is surrounded by two of its clones, but you don’t have to worry because you’ll only have to fight the main one.
This boss focuses mainly on melee attacks, where it swings around its mace repeatedly or thrusts it in your direction.

During one of its combos, the boss will summon three blobs of poison on the third swing of its mace. You can use a regular attack on these blobs to destroy them. However, if they remain on the field for a bit, they will explode and deal damage in an area, while also leaving behind poison clouds.
It may also summon two of its clones during battle. These clones can’t be damaged and will disappear after using one thrust attack. The thrust attack leaves behind poison dust, which disrupts your focus and inflicts poison if you remain under it for too long.

This boss also has a jump attack, so be ready to throw out that dart attack. You’ll mainly have to focus on avoiding its melee attacks at close range and chip away at its HP using Strikes.

The Library
When you return to the Monastery after defeating the first mana source, you’ll find Roy beside the Goddess statue. If you talk to him, you’ll unlock the ability to meditate and relive past battles. After that, you’ll have to find Wiwichi in the Library.
You can get to the Library by going right in the dining hall. When you get there, you’ll find Wiwichi digging into the books, but all of the books are blank.

If you go south in the library, you’ll find the Belfry Key on the table. Take the key. There’s a path going left inside the library, just below where Wiwichi is. Use the key to open the gate. You’ll find a book here. Interact with it.
A memory scene will trigger. Once you’re done with the sequence, interact with the document on the table, and then the books near the staircase. Wiwichi will come running to investigate. You can then return to the campfire to end the day.

The Dual Cultist (North)
The Dual Cultists can be found in the Ashfrost Hamlet. When you get there, you’ll find a boss called the Priest. It has the head of a bird. After you’ve dealt some damage to it, it will throw up a smaller flying cultist. You’ll have to face both of the bosses together, and they share the health bar.
The bigger boss usually uses tackle attacks from a distance at the start of the battle. When the smaller priest shows up, the bigger priest will go to the sides and try to inhale all the air; this will prevent Ruby from moving freely. During this attack, the smaller priest will shoot spikes to deal damage to you. Keep in mind that you cannot use melee attacks on the priests or land Strikes while they’re using these attacks and are on the sides.

The best way to go about this fight is to focus on the smaller priest. Keep it in focus, and you’ll build charges on it by dodging its feathers. Once the smaller priest comes inside the arena, use a Strike attack to deal considerable damage to it.
The bigger priest can also launch tornadoes at you from the sides. You’ll have to avoid those while you’re trying to deal damage to the smaller priest.

The Courtyard
When you return to the Monastery after defeating two of the mana sources, the courtyard will become unlocked. You can reach it by going south from the Dining Hall. When you get there, you’ll find Wiwichi resting on the grass.
Interact with the grass in the middle to uncover the memory, which will lead you to dispel the horrific illusion in the area. The memory will also include a maze that you’ll have to walk out of multiple times.

The Martyred Angel (North)
The Martyred Angel is the second boss to the North of the capital. When you get there, you’ll find an egg. There’s some lava on the edges of the arena.
Before you do anything, build all the focus stacks on the egg, as they’ll carry over to the boss battle. After that, hit the attack until it comes in contact with the lava.

This boss has two health bars. It will try to protect itself by using pieces of the eggshell. You’ll have to deal damage to the boss while the eggshell is not guarding it.
The Martyred Angel may also strike you with pieces of the eggshell. The pieces will glow red, and the boss itself will do a tiny hop. Just when it’s about to drop, you’ll have to press dodge to avoid the eggshell.

At times, the boss will completely abandon the eggshell, unleashing an attack which will put all the pieces of it on the edges of the arena. The Martyred Angel will then resort to melee attacks before recalling the eggshells.
Furthermore, when it has around 30% HP left in the first phase, the boss will return to the egg form. You’ll have to kick it in the lava once again to deal damage to it. If you don’t, the boss will just break the egg on its own after a little while. You can also use strike attacks to send the egg further.

In the second phase, nothing much changes, except the boss gets a little faster with its attacks. It also gains a grab attack, so be ready to counter it when it’s using melee attacks while it is not guarded by the eggshell. In the latter half of the fight, when the boss turns into an egg again, a circle of flames on the ground will surround it. You’ll have to dash over it to avoid the fire and then push the egg into lava.

Mirror Room
After you’ve defeated the third mana source and returned to the Monastery, you’ll find out that another hidden path has opened up.
You can find this newly appeared path by exiting the library from the south. You’ll find Wiwichi right there.

As you enter the room, you’ll find many mirrors here. Touch the one in the middle. This will show you a memory scene. Progress through the memory and you’ll wake up shortly. Destroy the mirror in front of the remains to teleport.
You’ll find certain documents in the area which show that different mirrors show the reflections that wear differently colored outfits. Each outfit has a different quirk. For example, the blue one always has one false statement, while the yellow one always has at least one true statement.

To exit the mirror world, you’ll have to break the mirrors in this order: Yellow, Blue, Green, Green. If you follow the hints accurately, you’ll then arrive in a large room full of mirrors. Here, you’ll have to roam around for a while until Wiwichi comes to the rescue.

The Plaguebearer (South)
The Plaguebearer can be found in the Capital Sewers, which is the second area to the south of the Capital. This boss is unique. You can only focus on the red part of its long body. You’ll mostly have to rely on regular attacks in the first half of the battle.
The boss remains off the arena, only coming in to attack you. One of its prominent attacks is the one where it coils down in the middle of the arena, shooting poison bullets in all directions. You can avoid it completely if you manage to get inside the coil. The boss can also go under the arena, inflicting poison on you if you step on its shadow.

After you deplete its HP for the first time, the boss will divide into two. Both of the Plaguebearers will have separate health bars.
This is where you start to use focus to build the stacks. Here, you’ll also try to defeat the smaller one first.

If you defeat the larger one, it will divide into two smaller Plaguebearers. If you haven’t defeated the other small one, you’ll have to fight three small Plaguebearers at once, which can easily get overwhelming, so try to get rid of the small one.

Abbot’s Office
After you’ve defeated four mana sources, a new path will open up inside the Monastery. When you return, you’ll find Roy suffering. He’ll ask you to find the new area. You can get to this area by exiting the library and going left.
When you get inside, you’ll find a crossbow and an item to the right. Interact with the item to the right first. Wiwichi will show up, and it appears that he was using an invisibility potion. After the conversation, Wiwichi will get busy, and you’ll have to interact with the crossbow.
After that, a memory sequence will trigger. This will show the ruthless nature of the witch. Talk to Wiwichi again and then return to the campfire to rest.

Faye The Guardian (Rematch)
After you’ve broken the seal on the Capital’s gate, you’ll have to head there once again. You’ll find Faye the Guardian here, and she’s stronger than before. In this battle, Faye will have two health bars.
Just as the battle begins, Faye will summon six swords. Her melee combo remains the same, but she will teleport to the swords a lot more.

In addition to her old grab, Faye uses one more grab attack where she launches a slow but homing purple orb, which paralyzes you momentarily on contact. You can deflect this orb as well by using a Sunder Slash.
Once you’ve depleted her first health bar, Faye will get even faster. She can also use a jumping red-flash attack, which can only be countered by a focus + dart attack.

Whenever she summons swords, a flower field will grow around each of them. This flower field will shortly explode, so make sure you avoid the flowers in this battle at all costs.
If you’re able to overcome these two additional attacks and her overall aggressiveness, you’ll be able to win.

Overslept
After your exhausting battle against Faye the Guardian, Ruby spends two days sleeping. The capital’s gate had opened, and Roy had already gone ahead to investigate. A new gate has opened in the Monastery. Talk to Wiwichi before heading to the new room.
You can find this new area by going further left from the Abbot’s office. When you get there, interact with the middle bed, and you’ll enter a memory sequence. Once the sequence is over, Wiwichi will show up, saying that Roy’s mana signature has disappeared inside the Capital, and he’ll ask you to look into it.

The Ghost
When you arrive in the Capital, you’ll have to fight against Grant the Knight. Once you’ve defeated the knight, the Ghost will show up.
The Ghost has one ranged attack where it shoots a barrage of projectiles in your direction. You can avoid it by dodging repeatedly.

It disappears a lot in battle, but if you’ve left a Focus Mark on it, you’ll be able to see where it is. Furthermore, when it reappears, it will use a slash attack.
During the battle, the Ghost will also assume control of the knights. Each knight uses a different weapon, which can be seen on their bodies on the ground.

When the Ghost takes control of a knight, it won’t take damage, but you’ll have to defeat them quickly. If you defeat a knight while the Ghost is inside of it, it will take some damage. Once you’ve depleted its health bar, the second phase will begin, where the Ghost will light the arena on fire.
In the second phase, the knights become a lot stronger, leaving behind purple flames with their attacks. You’ll have to be careful here because if you get burned, you’ll have to redo the battle. However, the overall strategy remains the same.

Hatchiwi
After defeating the ghost, Wiwichi will call you back to the Monastery. Here, he’ll tell you that the Witch is after the Rubinite, which only appears under a Bloodmoon, which is tomorrow.
Wiwichi will also give you a talisman. Ruby calls it Hatchiwi, but it is quite powerful. The party will then plan to leave the Monastery for good.

Roy The Hunter
When you enter the Capital Walls area, you’ll find Roy here. He appears to have lost his mind. If it’s your first time facing him, you won’t be able to use Focus at all. Instead, Ruby will try to call out to Roy.
However, Roy, with what remains of his senses, will ask Ruby to pick up the knife. This is where the fight truly begins.

Roy has two health bars. He has one three-attack combo that he uses repeatedly. You’ll have to get the timing right on this attack, and you’ll have no trouble getting to the second phase.
Roy also uses smoke bombs, which disturb your Focus sight. He can also summon spinning knives that will remain in the air and move around. You’ll have to avoid them as you battle.

In the second phase, Roy will continue to use the three-hit combo. He’ll also throw daggers at you if you’re at a distance.
One of the major attacks he uses is where he brings down two pillars in the arena. He’ll charge this attack and use it like one of your Strike attacks. You can avoid it by using precise dodges.

After you’ve defeated Roy, you’ll get to see his story. Furthermore, Wiwichi will set up camp outside of the Castle and will tend to Roy. If you need to buy something from him, you can do so here.

The Witch Alcina
Alcina is the final boss, and she uses a variety of weapons. Each weapon is dealt with a little differently. The scythe features delayed attacks, alongside an attack where she throws the scythe at you and recalls it some time later. Hatchiwi is also quite useful in this battle.
The sword attacks are instantaneous. She uses them often, and they’re your bread and butter for stacking Marks on the boss. Use perfect dodge on the two sword attacks and then avoid the scythe attack, and then use the Strike to deal your damage.

During the battle, Alcina will summon three purple orbs around you. You can destroy these orbs if you hit Alcina with an attack while the orb is lined up with her. It’s easier to keep an eye on Alcina and use dodge just when she snaps her fingers.
Alcina also has a grab attack where she summons a hand to grab you. Use Sunder Slash on it whenever you see it.

It’s the second phase where the battle truly gets challenging. Alcina will teleport away from you and create a circle of black flames. Alcina will then fire three spears at you. She’ll keep shooting spears at you, and you’ll have to avoid them.
Furthermore, the flames will grow in the entire arena, and the only safe area will be inside the black flame circle. If you get burned by these flames by staying in them for too long, you’ll have to redo the battle immediately.

The boss also uses a morning star. Whenever Alcina brings out the weapon, she’ll use one melee attack and then jump to do a red-flash attack. Keep the dart ready whenever she brings it out.
With Hatchiwi dealing constant damage, you’ll be able to come out victorious in the second phase, even if you have to keep moving around to avoid Alcina’s attacks. Keep it up, and you’ll eventually come out victorious.

Hardcore Mode
Once you end the game and defeat Alcina, the credits will roll. After the credits, you’ll find Ruby sleeping. You can then start the game again and repeatedly select the save file.
This will cause Ruby to wake up. Move around, and you’ll find a mysterious figure. Talk to it, and it will tell you that everything you’ve seen so far was an illusion and it is time to take reality into your own hands.

When you wake up, you’ll find yourself in the Monastery. If you open the Talent Tree, any talent that enhances health has been replaced with another one that increases your damage.
If you move to the inventory, you’ll find that the healing potion has turned into two impure crystals. Talk to Roy. He’ll ask you to go and fight the Beast. Furthermore, if you talk to Wiwichi, he’ll give you the Talisman Satchel. Every talisman you acquired will be present in it.

From now on, you’ll have to fight against all the bosses, but this time, you won’t see their health bars, and a single attack will mean that you’re defeated and you’ll have to redo the battle.
