Welcome to the Into Indie Games walkthrough on how to save your family in The Blood of Dawnwalker.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is an open-world action RPG where you play as Coen. Your character is a dawnwalker who stays human during the day and becomes a vampire during the night. Your goal is to save your family from Brencis, who wants to offer them as a sacrifice to commence a ritual.
The progression system of the game is very unusual and can be confusing at first. You are given 30 days to save your family, so you have to manage your time carefully and make sure you do not waste too many time segments. Here, we will tell you how to spend those days carefully and save your family easily in The Blood of Dawnwalker.
Check out the game’s Steam page for more information.

The Prologue

We have all of the main quests and an important side quest available during the prologue, so below are the walkthroughs for them. You have to make sure to focus completely on the prologue. There is literally no time limit here, so you should focus on completing all of the available side quests before you trigger the Bad Blood quest.
Once you have started the Bad Blood quest in the game, there is no going back, as all of the side quests in the prologue will be failed and will no longer be available to complete. Because of that, make sure you have completed everything you want to do in the prologue before starting Sacred Covenant.
Once you are done with that, you need to focus on how to save your family from Brencis.
All Good Things & Withering Away: The first two quests in the game detailing a bit about the game’s mechanics.
Like Father, Like Son, Sacred Covenant, & Bad Blood: After the Like Father, Like Son quest, there are some things you need to go through, or you will miss the rest of the content in the prologue.
How To Save Gremla: Gremla is a character in the game who would be killed during the Sacred Covenant quest unless you save her by completing the Blasphemy quest.
Smoke And Ashes & From Above: The last two quests in the prologue feature some witchcraft and the 30-day mechanic.
How To Manage The 30 Days
The 30 days given in this game to save your family are actually plenty of time to complete some important side quests and finish the story. That said, there are some things you need to keep in mind.
You will see several broken shrines throughout the game. You do not really need to fix them, as doing so is not essential for saving your family or completing the important questlines. There are plenty of shrines in the game, so spending time repairing every single one of them can waste valuable time that could be used for more important quests.
Also, you do not have to worry too much about spending your skill points. Spending skill points does not consume a significant amount of your 30-day limit, so you can unlock skills whenever you want. What we did was use the skill points during the day, as being a vampire is much more convenient at night, and we also focused on unlocking the vampire skills rather than witchcraft.
You should also try to plan your longer quests carefully. Some quests require several time segments, while others have waiting periods before the next part becomes available. Using these waiting periods to complete other side quests is one of the best ways to make the most of your 30 days.
Which Side Quests You Need To Complete

There are some important side quests you need to complete, and we will provide you with a walkthrough of them too. Do note that these side quests are absolutely not necessary for you to save your family, but they give you additional powers, allies, story content, and useful rewards that can make your progression much easier.
So, what you need to do is complete the Anca storyline first, as that is going to be important, especially if you want to romance her. Just complete her side quests and remain positive with her throughout her storyline. You will get several important dialogue choices, so make sure you choose the romantic options if you want to pursue her.
Anca’s Side Quests
We already have a walkthrough available for Echoes of the Silent Bells, so click here to complete that. The next ones are Between The Worlds, Where Old Devils Lie, and Stronger Than Achilles.
Between The Worlds Walkthrough
This quest is going to be very simple, but there is going to be an optional task of preparing a warm drink for Anca. Complete that first and then focus on the other tasks. The rest is going to be pretty straightforward, so simply follow the instructions, and once the quest is completed, the next quest will become available.
Now do note that you will also notice the A Monk and A Saint questline, but it is not really going to be that important for the romance. You really do not have to complete it, as the quests we have mentioned are enough to romance Anca.
Where Old Devils Lie Walkthrough

Once you have waited for Anca to finish her research, return to her and then start a conversation. She will tell you about the Font of Life, which is the thing you will have to search for during your journey. The next part is going to involve solving a puzzle.
With the first clue, “Lord’s symbol close to old devils, no soul to comfort me,” you will have to select the isolated mountain shrine on the map. For the next clue, “Tormented visage etched onto clouds,” you have to select the isolated lake.
Now, you do not have to select the right choice immediately, as you can select all of the wrong ones and then select the right ones to proceed without any serious consequence. However, choosing the correct locations immediately will save you some unnecessary dialogue.
Return To Anca Before Noon
Now, if you have already gone past noon, you will have to come back another day and return to her before noon. You can complete other tasks before that, or you can simply use your skill points to unlock some skills while waiting. Once you have returned to her before noon, you will have to travel with her to the lake, which is going to be pretty simple.
Once you have reached the lake, a conversation will begin.
Romance Dialogue For Anca
Now, you will get a chance to be flirty with Anca, so make sure you select the right options. Choose the following options:
“I care about you.”
“Nice to see you smile.”
“I’m enjoying your company, too.”
“Thank you for trying to help me.”
“That’s what you see me as, a friend?”
These choices will help you progress toward Anca’s romance route. Make sure you avoid dialogue that pushes the relationship toward friendship if you want to continue the romance.
Follow The Water Upstream
Then you simply have to follow the path ahead, and you will eventually reach the ruins. Investigate the ruins, and there will be three points of interest. On the left is going to be a shrine, while the middle is going to be the main entrance.
That entrance has been blocked by debris, so what you need to do is head to the right. There will be another entrance that you will have to squeeze through.
Explore The Ruins
Once you enter inside, there will be a painting to inspect. Do so and go ahead using Focus Mode. As you go through the door, there will be some enemies you will have to defeat. There are going to be three of them, but they do not really have the attack where they suck your blood to heal.
So, defeat them and continue going ahead. Go through another door, and there will be three more enemies to fight, among which there are going to be two annoying dogs. Take down the dogs first and then the skeleton knight. Defeat them and continue ahead.
As you do, a cutscene will commence, and you will have a conversation with Anca. Now there are going to be some things you will have to inspect, so explore the room and inspect anything you can come across. Then you will have another conversation with Anca.
Select the option:
“The coloured dust, it’s a pigment.”
Then proceed. A cutscene will commence, and the quest, Where Old Devils Lie, in The Blood of Dawnwalker will conclude.
Stronger Than Achilles Walkthrough

Now you have to complete the trial and exit the ruins. You now simply have to make your way ahead while defeating the enemies. Once you have done that, there is going to be an idol you have to investigate. Coen will put his arm inside the mouth, and his blood will be drained.
Once that has happened, the gate will be unlocked, so proceed ahead. Also, make sure to select the “Better me than you.” option when talking to Anca.
Then follow the path ahead and, if you are confused, use Focus Mode to find the correct route. Eventually, you will reach an enemy with a bigger health bar, but it will be easy to defeat. You have actually faced this enemy before in the ruins. It is the Fallen Hero, so take it down and then continue ahead. A cutscene will commence.
Anca Romance Dialogue
Now you have to be careful here, as Anca lied to you about the Font of Life. Select:
“Anca? What’s wrong?”
Then follow up with:
“You were hoping to use the Font yourself.”
Then:
“And I would, too, in your place.”
Then:
“Why didn’t you tell me all this before?”
And finally:
“I’d do anything for you.”
After that, you will get the option of saying “I love you” to Anca. Select it if you want to continue her romance route. You will then have to find a way forward.
Find A Way Forward

Simply jump on the platform in the middle. Go ahead, and you will be able to move to the left side of the area. From here, jump ahead, go through the crack in the wall, unlock the path, and then head in the opposite direction.
Keep going ahead and then interact with the idol. Use Astral Communion on it, and once you have done that, a lot of enemies will spawn. That said, it is pretty easy to take them all out, so focus on parrying and attacking. Do not just blindly attack the enemies, and make sure to use your abilities.
Once you have done that, you will get the option of either drinking the Font yourself or letting Anca do it. Do note that this will not have any effect on the romance with Anca.
Drinking it yourself will give you a power-up that can help you during the game as a human. However, if you let Anca drink it, she will be able to get a fresh start.
So, simply head back to Anca at the inn after you have made the decision, and then focus on the dialogue options that lead to the romance. Do not choose options like “Right. Let’s forget about this” or “I guess you’re right… Let’s be friends, then” if you want to romance her.
Now do note that neither Lacra’s nor Anca’s side quests are necessary in order to save your family, but these are important quests that you should complete in your walkthrough.
Completing The Court Quests And Taking Down The Boyars
Now comes one of the most important parts. If you do not anger Ambrus, Bakir, and Xanthe, you are in for a much bigger challenge, as they can remain on Brencis’s side during the final stages of the game. What you need to do is complete their Court Activities and eventually confront them individually.
Take Down Ambrus

Taking down Ambrus is going to be one of the easiest tasks because there is something you can do to make the fight much easier. As you complete the Court Activities and anger him further, you will eventually get the quest to take him down. One of his men, Iulian Codrin, will ask you to prepare a poison for him. This starts The Bittersweet Toast quest, so make sure you complete this quest before you proceed further.
Complete his side quest and, at the end, make sure Ambrus drinks the poisoned blood. Once you are done with that, you will be able to take down Ambrus much more easily. We think he is a tougher opponent than Bakir, so using this tactic of poisoning him and then taking him down is going to be the best option here.

Also make sure to drink his blood, as you can always get the armour and other items from his body afterward. Drinking his blood will give you access to his ability, so make sure you get that if you want to expand your vampire abilities. This will not have a negative effect on your ending.
Once you have defeated Ambrus and drained him, you can choose what to do with what remains of him. If you want to have his presence available later, choose the option that allows you to accept him rather than simply abandoning him.
One thing to make sure of is not to select “Gladly. To a juicy slaughter!” when dealing with the poisoned toast, as Iulian’s blood has been poisoned and you want Ambrus to drink it first. Simply select:
“Letting a peasant drink first? What kind of a boyar are you?”
This forces Ambrus to take the poisoned blood himself.
How To Anger Ambrus

Now the main goal is angering him. What you need to do is head to the map and see where Ambrus’s territory is. From there, head to the tower, and that way you will be able to see where his camps and other activities are.
Taking down the camps and his soldiers will give you more information on where the rest of the Court Activities are located.
So make sure to loot everything. Sometimes the information will be with a dead soldier, while sometimes it will be in a chest. Make sure to check everything. You can also stumble upon some of the soldiers as you are exploring, so take them down, and you will be able to anger Ambrus further.
Take Down Bakir

Now this is where things will get a little complicated because you will start noticing a difference in the strength of the soldiers. You need to level up and be at least around level 20 or above to be able to fight him comfortably.
It would also be a lot better if you take down his soldiers during the night, as your vampire abilities are stronger and more convenient to use.
Once you have angered him enough, the quest The Lunar Game will begin. Now, do note that if you have accepted the help of the NPC, you need to make sure to be on time for the objective.
Even if you do not do anything during the chanting and everything that is going on, it is alright. The maze is going to be pretty simple and easy to proceed through. You will find vials of blood throughout the tournament, so make sure to loot everything you can.

During the tournament, if you do not take down Porcupine, the other contestant you defeat will deal with him instead. So, do not worry about taking him down yourself.
Once the tournament is over, Bakir will have a conversation with you.
During the conversation, you need to make sure not to take off your mask. Keep the mask on and let Bakir take you inside the treasury. The important thing is to keep your cover intact, remain positive during the conversation, toast with him, express friendship and good fortune, say that you want to die fighting, and then ask for the reward.
This allows you to reach the treasury and face Bakir without unnecessarily turning the encounter into a much larger fight.
Once you are inside, select the option that starts the fight. Other than that, you do not have to worry too much about the remaining dialogue choices.
How To Defeat Bakir

Taking down Bakir can be a bit challenging, but you need to understand something. There are only a few moves you really need to be careful of, and once you understand them, he will not seem nearly as challenging.
The first attack you need to be wary of is his ranged blood attack.
We have noticed that even if you are far away, it can reach you surprisingly quickly. As you see Bakir’s animation and notice the blood coming your way, dodge sideways and you should be good.
The other attack you need to be wary of is the one you cannot parry. He can kick you and may even follow up with another attack, so you have to dodge it and then attack him when the opening appears.
His punches are relatively easy to parry, so you should not have too much trouble with them. Wait for his attack, parry it, and then use the opening to land a short combo.
The other attack you need to be wary of is going to be his blood crows. Once the first one reaches you, the second one will reach you almost immediately, so you need to be accurate with your dodge timing. Do not dodge too early after seeing the first projectile, as the follow-up can catch you.

Focus on using your abilities as much as you can, but there is no need to stay fully offensive. This is not the type of opponent you can simply overwhelm with a constant flurry of blows.
You can also use Shadowstep to get behind him when you think you cannot safely dodge an incoming attack. This can give you a better position and allow you to punish him from the side or rear.
After you have defeated Bakir, drain his blood if you want his vampiric ability, loot his body to get the armour, and then loot the entire treasury. There are valuable items inside, so do not leave immediately after the boss fight.
Make Xanthe Your Ally

Now, Xanthe is where things get a little more complicated. She can become your ally and make your route to Brencis much simpler. So, the ideal thing in this playthrough is going to be making her your ally.
Once you have completed her Court Activities and angered her enough, you will get a quest related to her. Also, make sure to complete the Home Sweet Home quest. This can be triggered by going to the tower on the southwest side of the map.
It also increases Xanthe’s anger, so make sure you complete it. Other than that, there are going to be some more Court Activities in the surrounding area that you can find by exploring. Just make sure to use the towers, after which question marks on the map will appear and help you locate additional activities.
Once you have angered Xanthe enough, you need to make sure to accept the lantern to enter Howling Keep.
The Howling Keep Lantern Puzzle

Now what you need to do is put the blue lantern on the statue, and the vines will disappear. Enter, and you will not be able to get this lantern back immediately.
Defeat the enemies inside and, once you have done that, head upstairs. Enter the room, and you will see a lantern inside. Do not pick up this lantern. Instead, head inside the room on the right side and take the lantern from there.
Once you have done that, head out and go down the stairs. Head toward the other staircase. In front of the stairs, there is going to be another statue.
Put the lantern there and then enter. Go ahead while defeating the enemies, and you will find another lantern. Pick up the lantern and then, on the right side of the statue, there is going to be a secret exit. Interact with it and then head down.

From there, go ahead, defeat the enemies, then defeat the blood dogs, and then exit. You would need to take the key from the body on the northeast side of the area to open the gate.
Once you are out, pick up your lantern and then defeat the enemies. After taking out the lantern, some enemies will appear, so take them down and then head up the stairs. Then go north and place both lanterns at the required statues to open the final route and trigger the boss sequence.
How To Defeat Xanthe

Now Xanthe has an armour bar that you need to deplete first. Once you have depleted it by attacking rapidly, you will be able to damage her actual health bar.
She is one of the easier bosses once you understand her mechanics, but you still need to be careful when dealing with her, as her attacks can be deadly.
Parry her attacks and keep attacking when you get an opening. However, make sure to step out of her AoE attacks. Do not stay directly underneath her when the area around you becomes dangerous.

As you take down her first health section, she will float in the air and try to recover her health. You need to destroy all of the blood orbs to make sure she does not heal.
This is one of the most important mechanics in the fight. Do not continue attacking Xanthe while the orbs are active. Ignore her temporarily, destroy the blood orbs as quickly as possible, and then return to the fight.
She also has an attack where she summons blood versions of herself. Make sure not to attack them, as they explode on contact. Simply dodge them and wait for Xanthe to appear again.
Then take her down and make sure to select the dialogue options that allow her to become your ally. Sparing her is particularly useful if you want an easier route through Greifberg Castle later.
Finish Lacra’s Storyline

Now, in Lacra’s questline, you will have to complete A Friend Like This, Song of the Mountain, Hive and Seek, Our Rotten Roots, The Night of Horrors, which is optional but important if you want to romance her, and then Midnight Reckoning, which leads to the ending and allows her to accompany you during the final quest.
A Friend Like This can be unlocked through Lacra’s storyline and can also become available after certain events involving Ambrus. During her questline, when dealing with Uriash Village, make sure to select the peaceful route if you want the additional content and the help connected to Isbrand, Brencis’s sire.
Lacra’s questline has some waiting segments, so completing it alongside Anca’s storyline is going to be the best way to manage your time. Once you have completed her story, you can focus on Midnight Reckoning and take down Brencis alongside her.
That said, you do not have to complete her questline at all. You simply have to head to Brencis alone if you want to finish the game more quickly. After you have taken down the three Boyars, a new quest, A Deal With the Devil, begins.
You can then enter the castle solo. If Xanthe is your ally, the route is going to be much simpler because she can help clear some of the supernatural opposition.
Take Down Brencis

Now do note that if you did not spare Xanthe, the castle is going to become much more difficult for you to infiltrate. Xanthe can remove much of the supernatural opposition for you, making the path toward Brencis considerably easier.
If Xanthe is not helping you, there will be additional soldiers and blood enemies that you need to defeat yourself. They should not be impossible to handle if you have already taken down the three Boyars, but you will have to be much more careful with your health and abilities.
The path ahead is fairly straightforward, but the castle can be confusing because there are several vertical sections. Once you reach the courtyard, clear out all of the enemies first and then head left.
From there, use Shadowstep to continue going up the path. Look for the floating platforms and use your movement abilities to climb toward the upper section of the castle. Once you reach the upper ledge, enter through the door and continue through the castle.
Eventually, you will confront Brencis and the final fight will begin.
How To Defeat Brencis – Phase One

So, before you start a fight with Brencis, do note that there are going to be two phases, and the second one is considerably harder. So, you would not want to waste all of your heals during the first phase. The first phase is actually pretty simple, as his attacks will mostly match what you have seen in the prologue.
However, you may not remember his moveset. So, do note that Brencis fights with a sword and another blood weapon that he can summon at will. There are going to be some attacks that you will not be able to dodge normally, and those will come from the blood weapons.
So, what you need to do is dodge them, and if you think you cannot avoid them, use Shadowstep. Actually, using Shadowstep during these boss fights is pretty helpful, but do be mindful of the stamina bar.
There are many attacks that you can parry, and after parrying, you can get a window to deal damage. If you have any other ally with you, you can deal more damage and create more openings.
You do not have to trade hits, as doing so will deplete more of your health. Brencis has a lot of health, so trading blows will not be a good strategy for you. What you need to do is use all of your skills and be careful with your parrying and dodging, and the boss fight will become really easy.

Phase Two – Grotesque Ascendant

Phase Two is where things get interesting, as he has some new moves that can be deadly for you. He swings his giant tentacle arm, which can deal plenty of damage but is easily parried. So, make sure to get the timing right and parry his strikes.
Also, stay close to him so you can land hits on him, but once you see him charging up, instantly dodge backward a few times. This attack will be unavoidable at close range, so you need to be careful.
Other than that, do note that he will also summon other Boyar’s phantoms, which deal plenty of damage. Dodging them is going to be the best option here, so dodge all of their attacks. Brencis won’t attack you in the meantime, so don’t worry about him.
However, there is an attack you need to keep in mind. There is a scripted grab attack where Brencis absorbs your health. It happens after you take down his first health bar. However, we have noticed that it can be interrupted using your special abilities, but that may not work in your favor every time because the timing can be complicated.
Still, we can say with certainty that while the grab does seem to be scripted, it can be avoided if you time the abilities correctly.
Another thing to keep in mind in this fight is that you don’t have to go for the maximum damage. This is not a boss where you can keep on attacking. However, if you have all of your skills available, then using them all one by one can give you a pretty high DPS potential, so don’t waste that opportunity.

That is pretty much it for the complete walkthrough on how to save your family in The Blood of Dawnwalker. Hopefully, our guide helped you throughout your journey and made it easy and enjoyable.
