Absolum – Grandery Walkthrough

Absolum

Absolum is a side-scrolling rogue-like game with a beat’em up combat style. Azra sits on his throne on the far end of the map, but your journey begins in Grandery after the short tutorial. For more information on the game, visit their official Steam page here.

In this walkthrough, we’ll be covering every route and secret that you may encounter on your journey through Grandery, which is home to humans, dwarves, and goblins.

Tutorial

Before you arrive in Grandery, there’s a very short tutorial at the start of the game, where you have to rescue Mother Uwachi. Uwachi is a Root Sister, and she possesses great power and can bring back the siblings to life as many times as they’ll need before they can defeat Azra.

As the tutorial begins, you’ll have to destroy the rocks on the initial path. This will lead you into an area where you’ll encounter multiple Clushrooms.

After defeating the Clushrooms, you’ll be attacked by an Exiled, a drone-like mechanism. After you’ve defeated the Exiled, you have to run through the plains, where the bridge will be destroyed in the background as you pass through the plains.

You’ll then arrive on the bridge. Here, you have to attack the glowing jewel to free the Mother. After Uwachi is free, she’ll teleport out safely, but you’ll have to fight against several enemies ahead.

These enemies are quite strong, especially the Crimson Wizard, and you might not be able to defeat him right now. However, defeating him isn’t required. As soon as you die, you’ll be resurrected by the Mother inside the Sanctuary, which will be the hub from here onwards.

As you start your run from the Sanctuary, the first place you’ll arrive at is the Grandery, a region ruled by the Underking, one of Azra’s Betrayer Kings.

Arrival In Grandery

As soon as you arrive in Grandery, there’s a sapling tree right ahead of the gate. You can pick your first ritual here. If it’s your first run, you’ll be handed a map of the entire Calamh by Maugis the Mystic.

The path splits into two shortly ahead. There’s a path with red trees leading downwards to the Giggling Forest. You can also take the path leading upwards, which will take you to the Wild Coasts.

Path To Rudolf, Captain of Stonedale

If you go through the Wild Coasts, the path will lead you straight to Rudolf, Captain of Stonedale. This area is filled with many soldiers. You may also encounter a few goblins here, but you’ll have to fight them as well to progress.

The Wild Coasts

Walk straight ahead through the coast. You’ll encounter many enemies here. These enemies don’t pose much threat, and the Raptors’ charge attack can be blocked by the large rocks in the area.

You’ll find a bag of Gold at the end of the first section. As you enter the next section, you’ll find the one-eyed creature here. This means that there’s a hidden area in this section.

Go ahead and fight against the enemies here. There’s a wrecked ship in the background. You can enter a part of this wrecked ship, which is a hidden area, to find a chest.

The entrance to the ship might be blocked in some runs, but in most cases, you’ll be able to find some gold or a healing item inside the chest.

If it’s your first time entering the third section, you’ll encounter several Exiled units. The Exiled units will be guarding a shrine, which has been shackled by Azra. You can destroy the mechanism here to free the shrine, which will allow Uwachi to revive it.

The City Of Stonedale

There’s a resting point here shortly ahead. You’ll be able to camp there and rest. You’ll also find a locked gate here.

The locked gate can be opened after you’ve recruited Cider. You’ll find a bandit standing near the locked door, and you’ll have to pay 50 gold coins to unlock it. Doing so will grant you access to Stonedale Stronghold.

Stonedale Stronghold

After paying the bandit and unlocking the door, you’ll find Zafari, the Bandit Queen, alongside a few other bandits. You’ll have to talk to Zafari, who’ll ask you to find the tribute in the chest inside the Stonedale Stronghold.

Here, you’ll encounter many soldiers. Some narrow paths leading to the stronghold are guarded by soldiers hiding behind a barricade. You have to rush to these soldiers because arrows will start raining down at some distance from the barricade if you don’t get out of the way fast enough.

After you reach the throne room in the stronghold, you’ll find that the chest is empty, and Zafari has gone alongside all her bandit friends. It appears that she took the tribute before us after we cleared the way for her.

You can then exit the throne room and go right to reach Rudolf, Captain of Stonedale’s boss arena.

Back To Stonedale City

If the path to Stonedale Stronghold isn’t accessible yet or if you’ve already cleared the area one, you can head straight right from the resting point.

This will allow you to reach a bridge-like section where several goblins will be fighting against soldiers. In the next few sections, you’ll encounter the same enemies.

However, you might also spot some buildings with open doors. You can enter these buildings to gather rewards.

At the end of the path, you’ll arrive at the boss arena for Rudolf, Captain of Stonedale.

Defeating Rudolf, Captain Of Stonedale

Rudolf is slightly more difficult to fight than the goblin champion, and that’s because he has a shield and a strong grab attack in the latter half of the fight.

You have to stay close to this boss. Destroy the shield and deflect it when he counterattacks. The red charging attacks can be sidestepped.

The grab is difficult to avoid, but it doesn’t do a lot of damage. Avoid doing a charge attack on him because he’ll easily knock you out of the air.

After defeating the boss, you can head up ahead, and you’ll find a bar. Zafari may also show up here if you’ve completed the Stonedale Stronghold quest. You can heal and hire a mercenary here, as it is a safe zone.

Path To Gazorg, Son Of Zorg

The other path from the entrance to Grandery leads to Gazorg through the crimson forest. There are many goblins here, and some might even attack you on mounts. You have to take out the ones riding a mount to make the battles much easier.

The Giggling Forest

As you enter the crimson forest, you’ll often be ambushed by goblins from up above the trees or hiding inside the stack of leaves. You have to be wary because these goblins can pose much more of a threat than the soldiers on the other path.

If you’re entering the area for the first time, you’ll find a bridge on the third section from the entrance to the Giggling Forest. There will be an Exiled drone here, asking some goblins to hunt you down.

After you go across the bridge, you’ll find a shrine shackled by Azra. Destroy the container to free the shrine, so the Mother can revive it.

There’s a resting place a few sections away where you’ll be able to heal yourself by camping. You’ll also find a soldier standing here, asking you to convince the goblin elder to allow them to build the bridge.

Be careful, because if you do let them build the bridge, it will be an easier path to reach the Underking, but it will also cause the goblins to utterly despise you.

The Green River

There are a lot of enemies here. You have to go downward to find a way ahead. In the next section, you’ll have to jump from the ledge to a raft. The raft is filled with goblins, and many will jump from the sides onto it.

After defeating all the goblins, the raft will finally stop, and you’ll be able to progress ahead. You have to keep moving for a few more sections until you reach Gazorg’s boss arena.

The Bridge Through The Giggling Forest

After you’ve arrived at the resting point in the Giggling Forest, you’ll be able to cross the bridge if you’ve helped in finishing it.

The bridge will allow you to reach Gazorg’s boss arena directly. However, the path isn’t free of any enemies. You’ll find quite a few goblins on this path as well.

Defeating Gazorg, Son Of Zorg

The goblin champion is a lot easier than Rudolf, but you still have to watch out for his red-flashing attack. It can be easily avoided by using movement.

Focus on deflecting Gazorg’s attacks by staying in front of his face. Some goblins will jump into the battle, and you’ll have to take care of them first to focus on the boss more efficiently.

After defeating the boss, you’ll be allowed to meet the goblin elder. Take the elevator up, and you can talk to the red goblin, and he’ll give you a random trinket as a token of honor. However, if you’ve made the goblins angry by allowing the bridge to be built, then you’ll get a rotten item.

You can heal yourself at the pot. If you talk to the elder, she’ll be convinced and allow the humans to build a bridge, but that will end up displeasing them in the future.

Path To The Underking

There are several paths that you can take to reach your first Betrayer King. If you go up, you’ll find Wisshelm, the Archivist, on the first run, who’ll be asking you to find a hidden study in the area. You can also take the path going downwards through the Old Mines.

Path Through The Misty Grove

The Misty Grove is an optional area that becomes available after you’ve constructed the bridge in the Giggling Forest. This area allows you to skip straight to the Underking’s chambers.

However, there’s a trick to this area that you’ll only be hinted towards after arriving in this area the second time with the help of a goblin. There are several crossroads in this area.

You have to hit the signpost before the crossroads twice. Any more or any less will make the signpost point toward a different direction or be destroyed.

After hitting the signpost twice, go to the path that it’s pointing towards, and you’ll eventually reach the heart of the Mist. Escorting the goblin champion to this location will allow you to make up with the goblins, and they’ll start giving out useful items after you’ve defeated Gazorg.

Note that even if you take a wrong turn, you’ll end up near the Underking’s arena, but you’ll miss the opportunity to reach the heart of the Mist.

You’ll find a Ritual trader at the heart of the Mist, and progressing ahead will lead you to the chambers of the Underking.

Path Through The Study

As you enter the area, you’ll immediately find a ghost wandering around in search of something. Interact with it to unlock a quest to find the hidden study.

There are many bandits in ghosts in this section that you’ll have to fight against. Shortly ahead, you’ll encounter a movable shelf with dwarf faces engraved on it. You can attack it a few times to uncover the hidden path leading to the study.

Once inside the study, you’ll have to talk to Wisshelm, who’ll agree to join you on your quest and teleport to the sanctuary. Go out of the study and continue moving ahead.

There will be more bandits and ghosts in the next section, but if you’re able to defeat the enhanced bandit and its friends, you’ll be able to reach the Underking’s chambers.

Path Through The Old Mines

The Old Mines are full of zombie dwarves. However, the path is quite straightforward.

You have to avoid falling down from the narrow wooden bridges and also avoid the falling rocks that might be chasing behind you on these narrow paths.

The zombie goblins are quite easy to defeat unless they’re mindlessly charging at you with their pickaxe. At the end of the area, you’ll find an enhanced zombie dwarf, accompanied by his friends. Defeat them to reach the Underking.

Path Through The Deep Mines

After you’ve knocked enough enemies into the furnace inside the Old Mines, the Deep Mines will become accessible through the elevator.

The Deep Mines are home to much stronger glowing mushroom enemies, but you’ll also be able to gain a ton of Shards here.

After clearing the area, you’ll be able to take the elevator to the top, which will let you reach the area outside of the Underking’s chambers.

Defeating The Underking

The Underking is the first Elite enemy and the first Betrayer King of Azra that you face on your run. This enemy swings around his pickaxe to harm you at close range. He can also use a flamethrower to shoot fire in the entire arena.

The easy way to deal with its swings is to use Clash. You can trigger a Clash by using your skill or arcana as he swings his weapon. This will cause the boss to become staggered and will make him vulnerable to an attack combo.

You can also try deflecting, but the final attack of his swing combos is usually a red-flashing attack, which can break your guard.

Before using the flamethrower attack, the boss will smash his pickaxe on the ground, causing boulders to fall from the ceiling. These boulders remain on the arena unless they come in contact with the Underking’s physical attacks.

You can avoid the flamethrower’s projectiles by hiding behind these boulders. Make sure you try to keep him away from these boulders during close combat to avoid destroying them.

Keep in mind that you can still avoid the flamethrower’s projectiles via movement, but it’s quite difficult and not recommended.

The best strategy here is to trigger Clash and keep damaging him until you trigger the overpressure. Keep this up, and you’ll be able to successfully defeat the Underking and progress to the next region, which is Jaroba.
