Absolum takes you on a journey through Calamh, where Azra the Sun King has established control over magic and is persecuting everyone who can use it. Uwachi, the Root Sister and the Mother of the siblings, has sent out her children to bring an end to Azra’s reign of terror. For more information on Aboslum, don’t forget to check out their official Steam page here.
Jaroba is the second region that you’ll have to go through, alongside Yeldrim, after you’ve defeated the Underking at the end of Grandery. To reach this area, you’ll have to board Zafari’s ship.
Table of contents
Jaroba, The Living Land
Jaroba falls under the dominion of the Lizard King, one of Azra’s Betrayer Kings. This land is filled with lizards, gnolls, and there’s also an arena here, which is the main form of entertainment for the inhabitants, as well as where you’ll be facing off against the Lizard King.

In some sections here, you’ll be facing off against venom-spitting plants. Approach these plants cautiously, because there aren’t many destructible objects in this area for a chance of dropping healing items until you’re quite deep into the region.
You might also come across patches of tall grass. This tall grass is always hiding a lizard warrior underneath it. Be wary of their grab attacks as you approach the tall grass.
In certain sections, you might also see boiling swamp water on the ground. This will drastically slow down your movement speed for as long as you’re stepping on it.

The Fire Swamps
If it’s your first time entering Jaroba, you’ll reach the Fire Swamps quite early. This place has cages made up of trees in the background.
For the first run, you’ll be hearing a voice from the cage on the far right. This will also be the first time you’ll see the slave queens. There will be plenty of enemies here, and you’ll have to take care of them first.

After you’ve defeated everyone, break through the last cage to release Vikhana, the Joyful. She can help you upgrade your Rituals back at the Sanctuary. Vikhana also tells you about Brome, a recruitable character, telling you that he’s fighting against the threats in this region.
Keep in mind that every time you’re in the region with the cages in the back, you can attack them to break the prisoners free. These prisoners will then act as your companions for the battle, but won’t accompany you further.
Furthermore, the prisoners don’t have a health bar, so they won’t be able to die once you’ve set them free. It can be of much help while facing the multiple enemies in this section.

Thorn Ritual Shrine
Jaroba is home to one of the Ritual shrines that has been taken over by Azra. You’ll find it shortly after crossing through the Fire Swamps.
Freeing the shrine here will give you access to Thorn Rituals. These Rituals revolve around throwables and auto-targeting traps.
If you’ve made it this far, the next section will likely be a heartroot section where you can heal yourself at the camp or craft a trinket.

The Sinking City
This region is full of destructible objects, but you’ll also find a ton of enemies here. If it’s your first or second run, or if you’ve yet to recruit Brome, the section will lead to a tunnel.
There will be enemies showing up from left and right, but you have to make your way to the far right as soon as possible.

You’ll encounter Brome at the far right edge. He will immediately help you out against all the enemies. Once all the enemies have been defeated, Brome will leave for the Sanctuary.
If you’ve already recruited Brome, you’ll still have to fight against these enemies in your runs, but you won’t have to rush to the right because there won’t be any help there to make the battle a little easier.

The Arena Of Jaroba
As you arrive in the Arena of Jaroba, you’ll encounter a shallow pool of water. Here, you’ll be facing the Slave Queens. There are two Slave Queens: Tidae, the Devout Slave Queen, and Ambys, the Defiant Slave Queen.
You’ll keep facing Ambys until you’ve defeated her, and then you’ll have to battle against Tidae. Once you’ve defeated both, you’ll have to fight the two of them together. Both sisters use different combat styles, despite looking identical.

After you’ve defeated the two of them together, Ambys will challenge you to a duel without the use of any Rituals. If you accept and can defeat her, Ambys will then join you as a companion in the Lizard King boss battle.
However, Tidae will also join the battle alongside Lizard King if Ambys is your companion, making it a 2 vs. 2 fight.

Defeating Ambys, The Defiant Slave Queen
Ambys is elusive, but quick. She is fairly easy to approach, but she can dive into the water and attack from a different position in the middle of the battle.
She uses chakrams as weapons. Ambys is also capable of ranged attacks, where she’ll throw a chakram, and it will come back to her from behind you.
Every time she lands from a combo, Ambys will go underwater and pop out of somewhere else, so be wary of that as well. Other than that, she doesn’t have armor, so you can easily rush her down.

Defeating Tidae, The Devout Slave Queen
Tidae is a bit more challenging to face because she relies exclusively on keeping you away from her. She uses dash attacks, where you’ll have to sidestep her.
Don’t use running attacks on her because she’ll easily deflect and punish you. Furthermore, if you walk up to her, she’ll keep blocking and push you away.
Use Aracana arts to launch Tidae in the air and then deal damage to her to defeat her. You can also deal a ton of damage to her by getting behind her back while she uses her dash attacks.

Road To The Lizard King
After defeating the Slave Queens, you’ll be able to heal yourself at the safe haven ahead. You can also buy trinkets and recruit mercenaries here.
The path ahead is straightforward. Just keep moving right until you reach the arena’s entrance, where your character’s name will be announced. You will also find a resting place here, so heal yourself and head straight to the arena.

Proving Yourself In Front Of The Lizard King
Before you can face the Lizard King, you’ll have to fight three waves of enemies inside the cage. After fighting against each wave, you’ll be rewarded with Rituals, Shards, or trinkets.
In the third wave, the Lizard King will set up traps in the arena. These traps affect you and the enemies as well. You can hit the wrecking balls hanging from the top to make them swing, and if they hit the enemy, they will take damage.
Mind your positioning in the final wave, and you’ll be able to defeat the enemies easily. Once you’ve defeated the third wave, the Lizard King will battle you himself.

Defeating The Lizard King
The Lizard King can take a ton of hits head-on. Fighting face-to-face against the boss isn’t a good choice, because he’ll simply attack you with his belly in the middle of your combos.
Having companions in this battle can drastically tone down the difficulty because then you can attack the Lizard King’s back safely.
Keep in mind that the Lizard King may jump and slam the arena, spawning small tidal waves in all directions originating from his landing location. Distance yourself from the landing point and jump over the tidal waves to avoid them.
The Lizard King also has a strong grab attack, but it only does significant damage if you hit the cage when he throws you away. In the latter half of the fight, the Lizard King will reinforce the arena’s cage with thorns, causing you to take more damage from the grab attack if you get thrown into it.

The optimal strategy to defeat the boss revolves around getting to his back. The Lizard King will often gesture to the audience to applause before attacking. He cannot attack during these gestures, so you can freely get in a few attacks or Arcana hits during these moments to stack up damage and defeat the Lizard King for good.

Path To Asterios
After you’ve defeated the Lizard King, you can take the carriage just shortly ahead of the arena to make your way to Asterios, where the Sun King resides.
However, there is another path leading to Asterios, and that’s through Yeldrim. Compared to Yeldrim, Jaroba is a slightly easier way to reach Asterios.
