Agatha Christie: Death On The Nile – Chapter 1 Walkthrough

Agatha Christie: Death on the Nile Chapter 1 follows the story of Hercule Poirot 6 months after the events at the Chez ma Tante nightclub. Hercule Poirot is in the Imperial Nile Hotel this time, and he’s going to see some unexpectedly familiar faces here. Chapter 1: The Imperial Nile Hotel

Hercule Piorot is greeted by the receptionist at the Imperial Nile Hotel, who informs the private detective that his room isn’t ready yet.

The receptionist informs Piorot that there’s a cocktail party being held at the hotel by certain newlyweds. Piorot decides to join the cocktail party, because he has nothing better to do for now.

The Cocktail Party

As you step away from the reception desk, you’ll find an old woman talking to her son. Talking to the two will reveal that the newlyweds are referred to as Doyle.

You have to head out to the lounge, where you’ll find a giant swimming pool downstairs. There are a few people on this floor, and you can talk to them before heading downstairs.

Head downstairs and join the people there. Shortly, a cutscene will trigger, where Linnet Ridgeway, the proposed woman from the prologue, is standing beside Simon Doyle as his wife.

This Simon Doyle is the same person who was with Jacqueline in the Prologue, and she begged Linnet to give him a job. Piorot will also be surprised at seeing the two together as newlyweds.

Greeting The Doyle Family

Linnet will be happy to see Piorot at the cocktail party. Hercule Piorot assures the couple that he has come to the hotel due to his personal reasons, and not because he’s following the couple.

Shortly after, Jacqueline, or Jackie for short, will arrive at the scene and glare at the newlywed couple. Linnet will then leave the party out of anger.

After a short cutscene, Piorot will be beside Linnet. Linnet tells Piorot that Jackie has been following the two around for some time.

She assures Piorot that she gave Simon a job as Jackie wanted, but the two of them shortly fell in love, which led to their marriage, and now their honeymoon at the Imperial Nile Hotel.

Linnet asks for Piorot’s help regarding Jackie, which he reluctantly agrees to. You can then question Linnet Doyle about Simon and Jackie.

If you ask Linnet about Jackie, she will tell you that Jackie was simply a crush for Simon. We’ll have to revisit this dialogue later on. For now, you can leave her and talk to the other guests at the cocktail party.

Gathering Information

As you head upstairs, you’ll find Andrew Pennington resting beside the swimming pool. You can talk to him about the Doyles. Talking to him will reveal that Linnet hired Simon as her assistant.

You can also find a writer and her daughter sitting together while having a conversation.

You can eavesdrop on them, but you’ll have to head upstairs and lean against the balcony to hear them out.

Eavesdropping will allow you to gather the fact that the Doyles are at the hotel for their honeymoon. You’ll also find Jackie beside the balcony.

Before you interrogate Jackie, you can talk to the other guests as well. The old woman and Tim, whom you met at the beginning, would be having a conversation on the top floor.

You can eavesdrop on them, but you’ll have to head downstairs for that.

After that, you can head downstairs again to find another person having a conversation inside a dome-like structure.

You can eavesdrop on them by sitting on the chairs near the structure. Eavesdropping on them will give you a key fact that the Doyles were married two weeks ago.

Attempting To Interrogate Jackie

Jackie can be found on the first floor of the hotel’s lounge. She greets Piorot, but says that she isn’t in the mood for answering your questions.

Jackie will refuse to talk to you unless you play her favorite music at the Jukebox, which is as broken as it can get. You’ll have to fix it if you intend to interrogate her.

Fixing The Jukebox

To start the Jukebox, you’ll need coins, but it isn’t only that; you have to fix the Jukebox as well.

Fixing The Gears

Interact with the small logo near the bottom-centre of the Jukebox and rotate it around till it’s upright.

This will open the inner compartment. The gears will fall out of place, and the parts of the insides will be completely out of place.

Piorot will tell you that the part on the right has to be connected with the part on the left.

Rotate and move the pieces around till the part with pins on the left is connected to the part with pins on the right.

Now, you have to move the remaining parts, just so they align with the gear icons.

After doing so, you simply have to select the gears from the bottom and check where they fit.

If you’ve done everything right, the gears will be fixed in place and you’ll be able to close the door.

Getting The Coin

You can get the coin by heading back inside the hotel and talking with the receptionist.

The receptionist will hand you the coins that you need.

Powering Up The Jukebox

Now, you have to rotate your view to the side of the Jukebox. You’ll see it plugged in with a total of three points of interest.

First, you have to select the plug and pull it out of the socket.

Now, open the compartment. You’ll have to rotate each node so that they’re connected in a straight line.

After you’ve sorted out the circuit, you can plug the Jukebox back in.

Unlocking The Record Picker

You have to rotate your view of the Jukebox to the other side. The upper compartment will be locked.

However, you can interact with the compartment that’s right below it.

Switch back your view to the other side and note down the position of the two keys on each side of the compartment that’s already opened.

Now, go back to the side with the locked compartment and adjust both keys on each side to the same position.

This will allow you to get the key. Now, you have to open the upper compartment.

Fixing The Record Picker

After the compartment is unlocked, you have to adjust the parts in such a way that they’re able to rotate freely.

For the first step, swap out the largest part on the bottom with the smaller part on top.

Move the part in the middle to the top by one step and let it stay there.

You can now rotate the record picker, and it will be working completely fine.

Picking Up Jackie’s Favorite Song

Now that the Jukebox is working, you can select Jackie’s favorite song. In the prologue, we saw Jackie taking the Midnight Storm record from the storeroom, which is likely her favorite song.

Increase the volume to the maximum.

Insert the coin into the Jukebox and hit the play button on the right.

The song will start playing and Jackie will start dancing.

Interrogating Jackie

After you’ve fixed the Jukebox, you can talk to Jackie about Linnet and Simon.

If you talk to her about Linnet, she will reveal that Linnet betrayed her. She hates Linnet but doesn’t want to harm her.

If you ask her about Simon Doyle, it will be revealed that the two of them were engaged before Simon fell in love with Linnet and broke up with her.

Confronting Linnet

After figuring out that Jackie wasn’t just a simple crush of Simon, but the two of them were engaged, you’ll have to go back to Linnet and confront her about this contradiction.

Go to Linnet and talk to her about Jacqueline, and she’ll say those dialogues again. However, you’ll be able to confront her about the crush sentence.

If Piorot calls her out for the couple were actually engaged. Linnet agrees that she was jealous of the two and fell in love with Simon when she met him.

The conversation gives you two facts. The first one is that Jackie is following the couple around the world. The second fact relates to Linnet being envious of the love Jackie and Simon shared. You won’t be able to make any more connections out of these facts for now.

Interrogating Simon

You’ve yet to talk to the man in the centre of all this, but that makes sense since Simon isn’t present in the lounge or inside the hotel.

You’ll have to exit the hotel through the main gate to find Simon having his assistant stuff his luggage in his car.

If you ask Simon about Linnet, he’ll say that he’s a lucky man because Linnet is super rich. This will give you the fact that Jackie is broke compared to Linnet.

Now, you have to ask her about Jacqueline de Bellefort. Simon will reveal that Jackie has changed a lot in the past 6 months, and she has even threatened to take Linnet’s life. This will give you the fact that Jackie does indeed want to harm Linnet.

You’ll then have to help Simon’s assistant fit the luggage in his car.

Fitting Simon’s Luggage

Piorot agrees to help Louise fit the luggage in Simon’s car. She’ll step away and take all the luggage out.

There are a total of 4 rectangular bags and 5 square-shaped bags.

Before you begin, you’ll have to place one of the square-shaped bags in the centre of the trunk and make it stand upright.

Place a rectangular bag on the top-right corner of the bag in the middle. Put the other rectangular bag in the bottom-left corner of the bag in the middle.

This gives you enough space to put a square-shaped bag on the bottom-right corner and the top-left corner.

Now, place the rectangular bag on the top-left corner of the trunk. The last rectangular bag goes on the bottom-right corner.

This leaves enough space for you to put the last two square-shaped bags comfortably in the trunk.

Simon’s Confession

After you’ve fitted the luggage in the car, Simon will reveal that he’s planning to leave tomorrow on the Karnak to escape Jackie.

Karnak is the same ship Piorot is planning to travel on. Piorot figures out that Simon has changed his plans for the honeymoon so he could journey alongside Piorot, while also escaping from Jackie in the process.

Making The Connections

After you’ve gathered all the information, you need to make the connections. A golden node will unlock, but before you deal with that, it’s best to solve the purple connections first.

You can pair the connection that Jackie is broke with the fact that Jackie is traveling the world while following the Doyles, deducing that she’s about to run out of money.

Now, you should head to Jackie and call her out on her sentence where she says that she doesn’t want to harm Linnet. You’ll have to give the counterargument that Jackie threatened to kill Linnet.

After a short exchange of dialogue, Jackie will show Piorot her gun, claiming it is for her defense.

You’ll be able to make the connection that Jackie owns a gun with the fact that she threatened Linnet. She’s ready to kill Linnet Doyle anytime.

You can also make another connection here. Select the node that says Jackie is ready to kill Linnet, and pair it with the fact that Jackie is running out of money and won’t be able to follow the Doyles for long. It means that if she wants to take action, it will likely be soon.

The Story Of Jacqueline, Simon, and Linnet Doyle

Interact with the golden puzzle node. It will ask you to arrange the facts in a chronological order from start to finish.

The fact that Jackie and Simon were engaged goes in the first slot. You’ll have to put that Jackie asked Linnet to hire Simon in the second slot.

Linnet then hired Simon as her assistant in the third slot. Simon then broke up with Jackie for Linnet in the fourth slot.

Simon and Linnet got married in the fifth slot, and the two arrived at the hotel for their honeymoon in the sixth slot. For the final slot, you’ll have to put the fact that the two of them are planning to leave early to evade Jackie.

Wrapping Up The Mystery

Once you’ve done everything, the central node for the Love Triangle will become golden, and you’ll be able to interact with it.

Here, you’ll have to select Linnet as the person who seduced someone who was engaged. For the threatener, you’ll have to put Jacqueline. Lastly, the person who changed the trip to escape the stalker is Simon.

Once you’ve selected everything, it will complete the mystery. Now, you have to go and talk to Linnet Doyle about the Conclusions to complete the chapter.

Piorot makes it clear to Linnet that she isn’t the victim in this story, and refuses to help her from now on. However, Piorot does suggest that Linnet leave early because Jackie is a real threat.

Linnet will get mad and leave the area, and that would make the end of chapter 1.
