Introduction
As the chapter begins, Hercule Poirot is slowly enjoying his morning coffee when he’s interrupted by the steward. The steward asks him to join the rest of the passengers as they’ve finally arrived at the famed temple of Abu Simbel.

On your way to the passengers, you’ll encounter Jacqueline. Talking to her will reveal that she intends to stay on the ship because she simply doesn’t like ancient places.
As Poirot joins the rest of the passengers, one of them claims to be an archaeologist and leaves the group, saying he has some work to attend to in a nearby village.
Poirot then announces that he intends to solve the thousand-year-old mystery of the temple of Abu Simbel in front of all the passengers.

Mirrors And Magnifying Glasses
You’ll immediately have to head to the back of the temple. There’s an altar there.
If you interact with the altar, Poirot will take out all the mirrors and magnifying glasses from his bag and lay them on the ground. There’s also a notebook detailing how to unlock the secrets of the temple on the altar.

You have to interact with at least one mirror and a magnifying glass to pick them up. After that, you’ll have an infinite supply of both of these objects.
Open the notebook to see that you have to magnify and redirect the light to these blocks that have a mind’s eye engraved on them.

The notebook also states that there are a total of five artefacts hidden behind these blocks in the temple.

Use the following image as a reference to place the mirrors and the magnifying glasses at the designated places to collect the five artefacts.

After you’ve obtained the first artefact, the sun rays will be blocked by one of the passengers.
You don’t have anything else to do here, so move ahead to the next altar and place a mirror there.
After obtaining your second artefact, the rays of the sun will be blocked by Miss Salome Otterbourne, but you can talk to her and she’ll gladly walk out of the way so you can resume your work.

Assembling The Artefact
After you’ve obtained all the artefacts, you’ll have to head back to the altar at the back of the temple, where Poirot placed his bag.

You’ll have to assemble each of these artefacts on top of each other to complete it.
First, pick the artefact in the top-left corner. Rotate it until the gaps align with one another and place it on top of the artefact on the base.

Next, pick the artefact in the top-right corner.

Bottom-right artefact is next. However, you’ll have to flip it to place it perfectly on top of the rest.

The final artefact is on the bottom-left. You will also have to flip it to place it. Placing the final artefact will complete the assembling process.

Deciphering The Message
After assembling the artefact, it will start to reflect light in different directions. You can rotate the artifact, and the lights will rotate alongside it, illuminating the hieroglyphs on the walls.

You have to make sure each ray of light illuminates one hieroglyph. Keep rotating the artefact and check if you’ve got it right.
After rotating it for a while, each ray of light will perfectly illuminate one hieroglyph on the wall, and that’s when you’ll find out that you’ve been successful.

Hieroglyphs Sequence
Now that we’ve got the hieroglyphs, we’ve to figure out the sequence in order to decipher the message.
Start from the wall on the right, and from there, you have to go down and then switch to the next column to the left and keep going until you’ve recorded each illuminated glyph in that order.

Once you’ve done so, you’ll be able to decipher the message by using your notebook.

Translating The Hieroglyphs
Open the mind map, and you’ll find that the Secret of Abu Simbel node has turned into a golden puzzle node.
Interact with it, and here you have to select each hieroglyph and match its appropriate translation by checking Poirot’s notebook.

If you’re successful, Poirot will gather some passengers and reveal that he has successfully solved the thousand-year-old mystery and deciphered Ramses II’s final message, which was intended for his beloved first wife.
Now that we’ve solved the first mystery, something strange happens.

The Twist
While Poirot is celebrating his success, alongside Cornelia and Mrs. Allerton, the Doyle couple is peacefully talking to each other right outside the entrance to the temple.
Suddenly, a statue falls upon Linnet Doyle. Simon is able to spot it and quickly jumps in to move Linnet out of the way. Fortunately, no one is harmed.

The Doyle couple suspects that Jackie was the one who tried to harm them. However, Poirot clarifies that Jackie remained on the ship.
Poirot then decides to investigate the scene to find out if it really was an attempted murder. Inspect the statue, and then for further investigation, you’ll have to go and check upstairs.

You can find the stairs by turning left from the entrance. The stairs lead straight to the top, where the statues are sitting peacefully.
You have to inspect the gaps between the statues and point out where the statue fell, which is at the entrance, near where the Doyle couple can be seen clearly.

Gathering Information
Now, you’ll have to interrogate every passenger who was inside the temple, including the Doyle couple.

You can exclude Mrs. Allerton, Cornelia, Marie, Elizabeth, and Mr. Fergusson. All of them were either with Mr. Poirot at the time of the incident or outside of the temple, which rules them out of the suspect list.
After you’ve talked to each of the passengers, Mr. Poirot will conclude that there was only one person per room, but one of the passengers that were inside has lied to him.

Making Connections
You can also make a connection between the missing statue and the statue that fell on Linnet Doyle.

You’ve already inspected the top floor where the statue fell from, so you can interact with the golden puzzle node to decide how exactly the statue fell.
In this puzzle node, you have to match contradictory clues. The statue is too heavy, so wind alone can’t bring it down. Furthermore, the base of the statue was flat, which means erosion is out of the question.
That only leaves the fact that someone pushed the statue to make it fall on Linnet Doyle.

Create a connection from the node that states that the staircase leading to the cornice is inside the temple. Pair it with the node that says someone pushed the statue. You’ll have to select that only the people who were inside the temple are suspects.
You will then have to select 8 passengers who were inside the temple, including the ones who were with Hercule Piorot at the time of the incident.

You can then rule out Mrs. Allerton and Cornelia, as they were with Piorot.
Doing so will unlock the mental reconstruction of the entire investigation.

Mental Reconstruction
In this mental reconstruction, we have six passengers. There’s only one time slot. We have to place each passenger where they’re saying they were standing, and make sure the alibis match perfectly.
There’s a slot for two people on the left side of the temple. You have to place Tim Allerton and Rosalia Otterbourne in these slots.

You’ll find a slot shortly to the right of the entrance. That’s where Salome Otterbourne should fit in.

The two slots in the deep-right part of the temple are where you should fit Dr. Bessner and Yamao Hayashi.

Now, each passenger would be in a separate room, and according to their alibis, except Andrew Pennington.

You have to take the stairs and go to the cornice. There’s a slot there for who pushed the statue. You can assign Andrew Pennington here, and that would make the mental reconstruction successful.

Confrontation
You’ll find Andrew Pennington near the entrance, inside the temple. Approach him and call out to him at the sentence where he says he heard a faint “boom” in the distance.
Use the fact that Andrew Pennington was at the cornice at the time of the incident. Poirot points out how no other passenger mentioned Andrew, and his was the only alibi that didn’t match what everyone else was saying.

Poirot then brings up the papers in conversation that he was trying to make Linnet sign on the Karnak in Chapter 3.
After a heated exchange, Andrew agrees that he was the reason the statue fell. However, Andrew claims that it only happened due to an accident. He fell on the cornice and accidentally pushed the statue.

Poirot also calms down, because he doesn’t have conclusive evidence that Andrew was trying to kill Linnet.

Epilogue
After all that is done, the passengers return to the Karnak. You’ll see Poirot having dinner with Mrs. Allerton at night.

Once the dinner is done, you’ll have to head to the bar to get Poirot the cup of herbal tea that he needs.
As Hercule Poirot waits for the Steward to finish preparing his tea, you’ll have to inspect Marie and Andrew to see what they’re doing.

After Poirot has his tea, he starts to feel very sleepy and tired. You’ll have to walk to his bedroom somehow.

Just outside of his room, Jackie will greet Poirot. Jackie also says some suspicious dialogue, as if she had been planning something, but she quietly leaves shortly after, bringing the chapter to a close.
