The Grim News
Hercule Poirot is woken up by the boat’s captain in the morning. Poirot isn’t feeling well after last night’s sleep, and he’s still quite tired. The captain asks Poirot to get dressed and meet him at Cabin 202, which belongs to Linnet Doyle.
As you head to the designated cabin, you’ll find Dr. Bressner and the captain standing in front of the door. They’ll ask you to see the incident for yourself.
There, Miss Linnet Doyle lay dead in her bed, with a gunshot wound to her temple. It’s evident that the shot was fired at point-blank range. There’s also a letter J drawn in blood on the wall, which clearly means to refer to Jacqueline de Bellefort.

You’ll first have to inspect the dead body and then the room. There’s a pink suitcase that belongs to Miss Linnet Doyle that you should check. Furthermore, the necklace that Linnet Doyle was wearing is missing from its case on the dressing table.
Poirot can draw the conclusion that not only was Linnet murdered, but someone also stole her pearl necklace.

Murder Or Suicide
Poirot has deduced that Linnet died in her sleep, so it was quite impossible for her to draw the letter with her own blood.
Furthermore, the weapon is missing. If it were a suicide, Linnet would have had the murder weapon with her.

Shortly after, Jane Royce will join Poirot on the Karnak. Jane updates Poirot about everything that has been going on with her since her meeting with Poirot at the disco club during the prologue.
The duo concludes that Hercule Poirot will handle interrogation, while Jane Royce will be dealing with inspecting the cabins of each passenger.

Inspecting The Cabins
Each passenger on the Karnak has something to hide, so almost every cabin that you enter will have a new puzzle for you to solve.
You can only inspect cabins as Jane Royce, so you’ll have to switch to her if you’re currently playing as Hercule Poirot.

Fergusson’s Cabin
Fergusson’s cabin contains a cube-like puzzle device. On top of the cube, there are four shapes with a dial underneath them. There’s also a button at the centre, which is to be pressed when the dials are adjusted correctly.
You have to rotate around the cube. Count each shape and adjust the dials under the respective shape accordingly. There are certain shapes that are slightly deformed; you don’t have to count those.
For the final code, you’ll have 3 birds, 7 mushrooms, 5 flowers, and 3 peace signs. Once you’ve adjusted the dials, press the button in the centre to open the box.
The box will open into four little puzzles.

Fergusson’s Puzzle 1
Here, you have to fit the beads where they belong. Use the extra slots in the top-right and top-left sections of the puzzle to move the beads from the bottom to the top.
Once you’ve fitted every bead where it belongs, the part of the puzzle will be solved.

Fergusson’s Puzzle 2
In this puzzle, you have to slide the bead across the other end. However, certain paths are blocked.
This puzzle is incredibly simple. Just slide the beat to whichever path is open, and you’ll eventually be able to reach the designated spot.

Fergusson’s Puzzle 3
Here, you have two beads: Blue and Yellow. You can slide these beads against the colored ledges to open the respective color’s gates.
Once the gate opens, you have to make both beads progress towards the top of the puzzle and touch the two slots. Once you do that, the puzzle will be solved.

Fergusson’s Puzzle 4
For the fourth puzzle, you have to bring the two white beads to the two slots that are in the middle part of the puzzle. However, the slots are some distance apart.
You can only move the yellow bead, and the white beads automatically move alongside it. Fortunately, there are three ledges in this puzzle that you can use to distance the white beads from one another.
Once you’ve distanced the beads to the correct distance, bring them to the slots, and the puzzle will be solved, revealing Fergusson’s Signet Ring with a Call To Arms on it.

Guido Richetti’s Cabin
Guido’s cabin has a strangely complicated puzzle right on the table near the entrance. If you inspect his side table, you’ll find an envelope with the names of three cities on it: Paris, Lima, and Rabat.
You can then go to the globe in the Saloon and find the location of these cities, and note down the code where these cities are located.
You’ll end up with O3I9N4 as the end result if you’ve done everything right. However, there’s another puzzle inside the puzzle.

After solving the first puzzle, you’ll get three torn pieces of what appears to be countries torn from a map. You have to place these torn pieces on the globe and note down the letter peaking out of the tiny hole in them.

If you’ve done it right, you’ll get ARISY, which will open the second puzzle.
There’s a third puzzle that you have to solve. Move around the red and blue dial to adjust the blocks in such a way that the bead can pass from the start to the designated exit location.
After you’re done with the third puzzle, you’ll find a list of deliveries inside the puzzle box. Some of them are marked over with a pen, signifying that they’ve been completed or cancelled.

Louise Bourget’s Cabin
There’s a locked case on the dressing table. Open it and you’ll find a pair of scissors.
Now, head over to the sewing machine in the room. You’ll be able to cut the thread under the needle with the pair of scissors.
Check the hood of the sewing machine. You’ll find a note here. The note states the Stitch Width, Needle Position, Pattern Selection, and Stitch Length.

Now, move back to the sewing machine and adjust all the details according to the note. Press the power button.
If the machine doesn’t work, turn the note around. It’s written there that you have to turn the tension to a minimum if the machine isn’t working as intended.
You have to switch the Thread Tension dial to 0 and then move the circular dial that’s on the side of the sewing machine. Doing so will pull the needle up, and then you can press the power button to start the machine.
After the piece of cloth from under the needle is gone. You have to inspect and pull out the cartridge. You’ll find a picture of Linnet’s pearl necklace with its worth written on the back of it.

Cornelia Robson’s Cabin
Cornelia Robson has a luxurious pocket watch placed on the dressing table. You have to inspect it to open it.
Just about everything in this pocket watch moves, and you’ll have to adjust the hands and the dials to get the back portion of the pocket watch to open up.
The clock hands should be at 10:15. The tiny dial in the center should have its hand on 6 O’Clock. The other tiny dial on the left should have its hand on 1 O’Clock.

Other than that, you have to adjust the blue border dial as well. The heart symbol should be at 2 O’Clock, while the clover symbol should be at 5 O’Clock.
Once you’ve got it right, the rotating mechanism will pull out a little, and you’ll be able to rotate it to change the symbols on the inner dial of the pocket watch.
The heart symbol should be on the left, the clover should go on the top, while the spade is meant to be at the right. Finally, the diamond should be at the bottom. Once you’ve adjusted the inner dial, rotate the symbols on the outer dial to match the ones on the inner dial.
Doing so will unlock the back portion of the pocket watch, revealing Cornelia’s picture with her father.

Yamao Hayashi’s Cabin
As you enter Yamao Hayashi’s cabin, you’ll find a cassette player on the table alongside a few music tapes. Furthermore, there’s a green suitcase nearby with Track 2 written on it. The suitcase is locked behind a code.
You have to find the audio synthesizer in the room. It will be in the opposite direction from the green suitcase.

Turn the synthesizer on and play the second record. Note down the melody of Track 2, as that would be your key in unlocking the suitcase.
Once you’ve got it, head over to the suitcase and use the code: DCBAFEDC to unlock it. You will find an audio tape inside the suitcase.
Use the cassette player to play the audio tape that you have just found, which will reveal that Yamao Hayashi is a spy sent by Linnet’s father’s company to watch over Andrew Pennington.

Tim Allerton’s Cabin
Tim Allerton is a tricky guy, and you’ll have to inspect his cabin thoroughly. There’s a book on the table right in front of the entrance.
Inspect the book, and it won’t open. You have to adjust the mechanism on the back.
Make sure the two ends are connected to each other on the back of the book without any interruptions.

Once you’ve fixed up the puzzle on the back, you’ll find that it is a hollow book with a letter signed by J.
The letter talks about a flawed product in the hollowed book, and the sender is likely Joanna Southwood, as Mrs. Allerton had mentioned in the past that Tim’s cousin, Joanna, sends him letters all the time.

There’s also a record player here. However, the tip of the record player isn’t there. We’ll have to leave it as it is for now.

Simon Doyle’s Cabin
There are a few slides on the table to your left from the entrance to Simon’s cabin. Pick up those slides. There’s also a battery in Simon’s bedside table.
After you’ve picked up both of the items, head over to the dressing table, where you’ll find a slide reader and a locked case.
You can put the battery in the slide reader and select two images to see if they have a secret code that can help you unlock the case.

The final code will be 6580 LOVE, and you’ll have to put that in the case to unlock it.
You’ll find many casino chips inside the case, suggesting that Simon Doyle has a gambling habit.

Marie Van Schuyler’s Cabin
There are four medallions hidden in the room. You have to find all four and put them in the jewelry case on the table.
The jewelry case had 8 slots, and if you look closely, it also has a purple bead. You have to put medallions in such a way that the bead can safely travel the entire path and reach the other end.
Once you do so, you’ll unlock the jewelry case and find that Miss Marie does indeed have an elaborate collection of random shiny objects.

Salome Otterbourne’s Cabin
As the writer, her secret is well hidden inside her typewriter. You’ll find her favorite book, Flaming Kiss, inside her bedside table.
There’s also a red-colored tape for the typewriter under a drawer. Put the tape on the typewriter.
Here, you have to type the title of the book. Type the FLAM in black ink and ING in red ink. Break the line. Type KI with red ink and SS with black ink.
This will unlock a compartment in the typewriter with an alcohol bottle inside it.

Adele Allerton’s Cabin
Adele Allerton’s cabin has a big macaw, which can help you unlock the chest that’s lying on the sofa.
If you talk to the parrot about anything related to the box, it will just say Mama’s box and nothing else. However, the bird will say that it’s hungry and wants peanuts.

You can find peanuts in the lounge on the counter. Pick them up and bring them to the parrot. The macaw will spread out its wings, allowing you to judge the code from its wing pattern.

The lock for the chest is 3231. You’ll find tidbits of a film critic’s reviews inside the chest, written by someone called Amanda Bolton.

Jacqueline De Bellefort’s Cabin
Jackie is with Bowers inside her cabin, but if you approach it, the two of them will leave and allow you to continue your investigation.
There’s nothing exceptionally notable here. Just an album case. You have to match the symbols and then press the corresponding buttons as displayed on the front cover of the album to open it.

Andrew Pennington’s Cabin
Andrew keeps a gun inside his bedside table, and you’ll have to take a look at that. There are also some documents on the dressing table.
Pick up the pencil from the tea table in the centre of the room. You’ll have to use the pencil to cover all these pages completely, which will then reveal a hidden letter.

All the pieces of the document have certain parts of the letter coded on them. Once you’ve covered everything in black, you’ll have to adjust the position of the documents to complete the letter.

Dr. Bessner’s Cabin
Dr. Bessner is inside his cabin alongside Simon Doyle, who’s injured. The two of them won’t leave, but there isn’t much to search in this room.
Check the bag on the tea table and you’ll find some of Dr. Bessner’s medical supplies.

Elizabeth Bower’s Room
Elizabeth Bowers has an elaborate medical device in her cabin. This device is full of medicines and wires that are connected to a battery on the back.

You have to place the medicine bottles in such a way that the wires attached to them complete the entire circuit to the other end of the box.

Doing so will unlock the tiny compartments under the medicine bottles, which will have several hooks.
Use these hooks to connect the dots on the front board. Use the attached image on the device as a reference.

If you’ve done it perfectly, another hidden compartment inside the medical box will open, and you’ll find Linnet’s necklace here.

To Be Continued
You’ve found the necklace, but something feels off about it. Elizabeth Bowers hasn’t shown any strong motives to steal Linnet Doyle’s necklace so far.
Now, it’s time to meet up with Hercule Poirot and deliver him all the information Jane has found from the cabins of all the passengers.
