In this walkthrough, we’ll be covering the prologue, where we have to find out who stole the Emerald Ring that was meant to be used in a proposal.

Introduction

Hercule Poirot arrives at the Chez ma Tante nightclub in London. A nightclub that has been in existence since 1957 and is owned by Poirot’s trusted friend, Mr. Blondin.

After a short conversation with Poirot, Mr. Blondin leaves the bar to attend to some other matter. During this time, Poirot is greeted by Jane Royce, a private detective inspired by him.

Once the conversation with Jane is over, you’ll get a short cutscene where Charles Windlesham will propose to Linnet Ridgeway.

The Proposal

Charles Windlesham appears on the dance floor with a ring box in his hand and apologizes to the others for a moment of their time.

He then gets on one knee and proposes to Linnet Ridgeway, who’s watching the whole thing from the first floor.

Unfortunately, as Charles opens the ring box, the other dancers start to laugh as the ring box is completely empty. This causes Charles Windlesham to feel embarrassed, and he quickly retreats.

Charles then approaches Mr. Blondin, the owner of the nightclub, and accuses him of stealing the ring, because Mr. Blondin was the only person who put the ring in the safe, and was also the person who took the ring box out of the safe to bring it to Charles Windlesham.

The Investigation Begins

Mr. Blondin will immediately come to Piorot for help. Right now, Jane’s friend Emmy will also remark how beautiful the ring is with such an emerald on it.

Now, you first have to go and interrogate Charles, as he’s the prime victim. Charles will tell you that he handed over the ring to Mr. Blondin, who kept it in the safe. Charles also mentions that Mr. Blondin was the one who took out the ring box from the safe when it was time for the proposal.

After the conversation, the tutorial will force you to open up the Mind Map. Here, you’ll have to make a connection.

Select the node that states that the ring was stored safely inside Blondin’s safe. You’ll have three options here to pick from. Choose the one that states that the ring was no longer in the safe when Blondin took the box out of the safe.

For the deduction part, you’ll have to select that the ring was stolen from Gaston Blondin’s safe.

This will open up two investigation objectives, where you have to interrogate the barman and inspect Blondin’s office.

Inspecting Blondin’s Office

You can get to Blondin’s office by going through the door behind the bar’s counter.

There will be several objects of interest here. You can also interact with the clock here to get the Mustache, a collectible item.

To get the mustache, you have to arrange the dials in such a way that the biggest hand is pointing towards the number 3 in Roman.

After that, you’ll have to inspect the safe. You won’t be able to unlock it for now. After inspecting the office, return to the barman and talk to him for more clues.

Interrogating The Barman

The barman will repeatedly act like he didn’t see anything out of the ordinary. He’ll say that he didn’t know about the ring, he didn’t leave the station, and he didn’t see anyone come out of the office during the time.

This can’t be entirely true, because someone must’ve come into the office to get the ring. But you’ll have to leave it at that for now.

Looking Into The Proposal

Head back to Charles and talk to him about the proposal. Charles will mention a woman who recommended an emerald ring for the proposal.

Alongside that, Charles will also tell Piorot that Mr. Blondin was aware of the proposal and that he had an extra champagne prepared for the occasion, which includes Mr. Blondin in the list of suspects alongside Charles himself.

However, there was someone else who knew about the emerald ring, and that was Jane’s friend Emmy.

You can open the Mind Map now, and there will be a golden node. Select Emmy as the potential fourth suspect.

Mr. Blondin is the least likely to commit the theft from among the list of suspects because he has the most to lose from a theft in his nightclub. If you talk to Mr. Blondin, you’ll find out the same.

Emmy Dunnes, The Fourth Suspect

Talking to Emmy Dunness will reveal that she wasn’t the one who actually stole the ring, but happened to catch a glimpse of it while Charles was showing it to Mr. Blondin.

The conversation will also reveal another clue that Emmy saw one of the dancers coming out of the door in the bar holding a record.

Eavesdropping On The Dancers

You’ll get the new objective to eavesdrop on the dancers. Now, if you approach the dancers, you’ll get the option to eavesdrop on them.

However, you’ll have to go up on the platform behind the dancers to be able to successfully eavesdrop on them. The eavesdropping will reveal that the duo desperately needs money.

If you talk to Jacqueline, the dancer, it will be revealed that she only went behind the bar to grab a record and didn’t even enter Blondin’s office.

You can now make the connection in the Mind Map from Emmy Dunnes’ node to Jacqueline coming out of the storeroom with a record.

For the deduction option, you can choose that Emmy saw Jacqueline come out of the store room.

Unlocking The Safe

You can make another connection here if you’ve talked to Blondin during the last few minutes. Select the node that says Blondin was the only one with the code.

Here, you’ll have to choose the option that says Blondin wasn’t the thief, and select the deduction that states that the thief figured out the code on their own.

You can head to Blondin’s office again, and the code for the safe is painfully obvious. Still, if you need some extra help, you can check out the picture on Blondin’s table and rotate it to find 1957 written on the back of it.

Use the code 1957 to unlock the safe. You’ll find a fair sum of money in the safe, which suggests that the thief only took the ring.

You can now make the connection in the Mind Map that the ring was stolen from Blondin’s safe, but left the bundles of cash in it. The deduction would be simple that the thief’s motive isn’t money but something else.

Interrogating Linnet And Ms. Southwood

Now that we’ve done everything we can on the ground floor, it’s time to head upstairs. As you’re approaching the Linnet and Ms. Southwood, you’ll get the option to eavesdrop on their conversation.

You’ll be able to listen to them speak if you head near the balcony. The duo is talking about failed engagements and their friends.

If you approach the two of them and start talking, Jacqueline will come upstairs to interrupt the talk for a little while.

After Jacqueline leaves, you’ll be able to talk to Linnet and Ms. Southwood. Linnet will say that when the barman brought the bottle of champagne earlier, she knew something was up and Charles might be using some trick to propose.

Talking to Linnet further will reveal that she didn’t actually like Charles and was going to reject him during the proposal, but it would’ve been difficult for the two in the middle of so many people. She didn’t want to marry anyone for now.

If you talk to Ms. Southwood, she will reveal that she was the one who chose the ring. When asked if she knew about the proposal, Ms. Southwood will say that Charles came to her for recommendations since she’s Linnet’s close friend.

The True Motive

After talking to the two in the VIP lounge above, a new puzzle node will unlock in the Mind Map about the thief’s motive.

Select the puzzle node, and then choose the option that says the motive was to prevent the proposal.

You’ll get an option to select two people out of the eight you’ve talked to tonight who might want to steal the ring to prevent the proposal.

You can select Joanna Southwood and Linnet Ridgeway as the prime suspects.

Confronting The Barman

The conversation with Linnet did reveal that the barman left the counter for a while when he brought the bottle of champagne to her. Now, you have to go to the barman and confront him.

You’ll be able to call him out on the sentence where he said he never left the bar. Select the fact that states that the barman brought drinks to Linnet.

The barman will tell you that a customer insisted that he deliver the drink to the VIP lounge on the first floor. When asked about the customer, the barman will say that he doesn’t remember.

Solving The Mystery

After you’ve got all the pieces of the puzzle, the central mystery node will turn golden, and you’ll be able to enter the mental reconstruction of the events.

At 10:43 pm, you have two nodes here: one on the dance floor and the other on the bar. Select Joanna Southwood as the customer at the bar, and Jacqueline as the suspect on the dance floor.

For 10:45 pm, select Joana as the suspect who enters the storeroom in the absence of the barman, while Jacqueline talks to the DJ.

On the next node for 10:47 pm, you have to select Joanna Southwood as the suspect working on the safe, while Jacqueline enters the storeroom to grab the record.

At 10:49, Jacqueline grabs the record from the storeroom. Meanwhile, Joanna is still working on the safe.

After the clock hits 10:51, Jacqueline leaves the storeroom, unaware of what Joanna was doing. Joanna closes the safe inside Blondin’s office.

At 10:53 pm, Joanna returns to the party before the barman returns. On the other hand, Jacqueline is dancing with her partner on the dancefloor.

Confronting The Thief

If you confront Joanna Southwood, she will immediately accept that she was the thief and that she intended to give the ring back to Charles later on.

Joanna will tell Linnet that she did it for her since she didn’t want to marry Charles. You can then talk to Charles. Piorot wouldn’t tell the name of the thief, but would suggest that he shouldn’t propose Linnet because she will likely say no.

After the conversation, Piorot will return to Jane Royce, who had slipped a note in his pocket during the conversation with him at the start. The note contained the name of the suspect who might’ve stolen the ring, and Jane was right about it.

Leaving The Bar

After the conversation, you’ll be playing as Jane, who is leaving the bar to go home alongside Emmy Dunnes, her friend.

You’ll have to leave the bar, and Emmy will be waiting outside the nightclub. Emmy would suggest eating at a Chinese restaurant.

Now, you have to walk alongside Emmy. If she stops, you have to talk to her and select any topic until you reach the restaurant.

Among the conversation topics, there would be one about Emmy’s file. Emmy will ask Jane if she should hand it over to the press or believe in the judicial system and hand it over to the police.

The file contains the crime records of a big organization, and revealing it to the press will make things faster, but Emmy will have to handle most of the things by herself. On the other hand, handing it over to the police will be slow, as multiple countries are involved with the organization.

Regardless of the option you choose here, the two will arrive at the restaurant, and Emmy will say that she’s going to use a payphone for a second. While Jane goes inside, she hears firing outside and heads out to find Emmy dead, marking the end of the prologue.
