The Beginning

Akatori opens up with a quote from Mako’s diary, and then we see her sitting under a tree. After you gain control, you can practice with the dummy to your left to learn the basics of combat. Then, go right to meet with Yumi. She tells us the Akatori are waiting for us, as Bao has “let the beasts loose” again.
With this, we get our first task: Head to the square. Just ahead of Yumi, there’s a Guide Stone, a shrine where you can rest and replenish your health. Jump ahead and stay vigilant of the holes with thorns in them. Following the path ahead will lead you to a cave. To enter it, hold S and press Space to drop down the floor.

So, keep following the tutorial as shown on the screen, and you’ll eventually come across a giant red bug. It will try to rush towards you to deal damage. Jump and then attack the bug to defeat it. Now, go through the cave, use double jump to jump higher, and exit.
Outside the cave, there are two paths: Left and Right. Going left will lead you back to the cave, but there’s only a collectible. To progress the story further, exit the cave again and go right.

Note: If you see giant yellow crystals in the area, make sure to break them to gain Amber, the universal currency of Akatori.
After reaching the square, we need to talk to Abbot. In the square, you will meet with Bao, Hana, Yeon-su, Tso, Nobumitsu, Ryuji, and lastly, Abbot. Abbot is talking to military scientists, and when they leave, he gives us an Akatori charm to stay safe. Now, follow and meet with the military scientist at the lake.
The Military Job

From the square, go right to find the military scientist. This path will lead you to a cave, so drop down, break the crystals for Amber, and continue ahead. Navigate through the cave, open all the doors and shortcuts while avoiding the wall flowers, then leave the cave to find Yoshiro, a trader who sells items for Amber.
After buying the items of your choice, move right, cross the bridge, and you will reach the lake. There, Goro and military scientists will greet Mako. To begin working, Goro will teleport us from the lake to another realm. There, we now have to meet the scientists at the elevator.

Go right from the lake and rest at the Guide Stone. Additionally, you can access the map in this realm by pressing M. Jump across the locked gate behind the call station to find everyone at the elevator. When you reach there, we’ll go below into the cave, but suddenly, an Amber Storm startles everyone.
Now, we’re stuck in the cave, and there’s only one way to exit, but the lever to open the door is on the other side. Since Mako doesn’t know what to do, she decides to call Abbot from the cave. Go right to find the telephone; there is a merchant in the middle.

Keep going right, and once you reach three platforms with a statue in the middle, jump over them and go right to ultimately find the telephone at the end. Mako tells Abbot about the situation, and he tells us to unseal the storage facility to find an alternate exit.
Before the call ends, he gives us the code to the storage facility. Mako will put the code in the box before her, and the door will open. Move ahead to find the path to the facility, but in the middle, you will find someone unconscious.

Mako pays her respects and notices the giant rock before her, which seems impossible to climb. Suddenly, a man in a hat arrives and breaks the rock, saying that whatever Mako seeks is below. Now, with the new opening, jump into the cave to find another Guide Stone and a merchant.
Take a rest and continue moving right to find a platforming section. Hit the lever to open the door, and a dynamite cart will simultaneously start moving to break the Storage Facility’s entrance. Jump across the platforms slowly and steadily, as hitting the crystals at the bottom will deplete your health instantly.

If you’re struggling with the last jump, attack in mid-air to extend your jump distance. Manuever through the cave, and in the next room, wait for the electric platform to appear over the crystals, then jump above. There are two paths. Go left to find a Guide Stone, and then go right to continue the objective.
At the top right section, there’s a not-so-hidden lever that you must punch to move the cart forward. Continue through the cave until you reach the next room. There, you will find another Guide Stone. Jump above it to find the cart. To activate it, we need a detonator. Mako asks Lolo if he has it, but he has already sold it to the monks. He gives us their location. So, drop down, push the door to your right, and drop down again to find a telephone.

As Mako talks to Abbot, another Amber Storm arrives. Unfortunately, one of the military scientists is affected by the Amber, turning him into a monster. With the door open, move into the deeper part of the cave to find the detonator.
If you don’t know where to go, make sure to check the map regularly. Keep moving right, drop down into the lower area, and go left to find an Amber Crystal. Break it to get the Amber points, then go right towards the objective.

In this area, there’s a moving electric platform. To avoid it, roll under it, and then move left to find the next Guide Stone. Once you’re out of the cave, go left while avoiding the bullets and monsters, then complete the final platforming section to find the detonator. Now, it’s time to return all the way back to the dynamite cart.
Put the dynamite cart on fire, then step back and watch it explode. Go through the newly formed path to meet Turtle, the first boss of Akatori.

Turtle is a massive… turtle with a shield in its hands. Both the shield and Turtle have different health bars. With the shield, the boss can throw mines and rush towards Mako while leaving a lava trail behind. If you touch the lava or the mines, they will deal significant damage.
However, you can brute-force your way to destroy the shield first, then watch out for Turtle’s smash attacks. In a few hits, you will be able to defeat it.

After defeating Turtle, interact with the golden ring on the ground to free Akatori, a God of this world, who is a small bird. He decides to join Mako on her journey, and to show what he can do, Akatori transforms into a spear, giving Mako the ability to stick to walls.
