Ariana and the Elder Codex is a metroidvania where you play the role of Ariana, a librarian whose unique magic allows her to enter the Codices. Now that the Codices have been altered by a third party, all magic has vanished from the world. Ariana, with her unique ability, will have to enter each codex and repair the alterations and restore magic to the world.

Welcome To The Codex Of Water
The Codex of Water is the first Codex that Ariana will enter to repair it. As soon as she steps into the codex, Ariana immediately realizes that the alterations have changed the codex.
You’ll then arrive in the Starting Lands. The game will teach you the controls, and you’ll also fight against an enemy here.
Once you’ve defeated the enemy, the path will open, and you’ll be able to progress ahead. Shortly after, you’ll encounter another group of enemies. Here, you’ll learn how to evade enemy attacks by using the dash evade.
Keep going right. You’ll have to drop down some platforms. There’s a ladder going downwards here, and a path going to the right. You should go to the ladder first, as there’s a treasure chest here.
After that, go up the ladder and take the path going right. You’ll encounter your first alteration here.
The First Repair
Approach the purple eye peeking out of the torn background. Interacting with it will allow you to start a repair. Most repair procedures will involve combat, and you’ll have to defeat the enemies within a required amount of time to get a ranking.
The ranking doesn’t affect the repair, so even if you’re slow, if you manage to defeat the enemies, the repair will work out fine.
After you’ve defeated the enemies, Ariana will be able to repair the alteration. You’ll have to keep going ahead after that.
Sisters’ House
As you arrive in the area, you’ll have to go inside the house. Interact with the red arrow on the house’s door to enter it. There’s an alteration inside the house.
You’ll be able to repair it without any battles. This will unlock a part of the Codex of Water’s story, where the younger sister heads out to the forest to look for a flower that will cheer up her elder sister.
After that, you can exit the house. There’s a floating green emblem outside the house. Interacting with it will unlock a resting point.
The path going right of the house is closed right now, but there’s another path here that leads you deeper into the woods. Go through that path.
Poisonous Forest
Once you enter the area, you’ll encounter some enemies. There are small poison pools in the area, and you’ll have to avoid falling into them.
Keep going right until you reach a ladder. A story event will unlock, where you see the younger sister making her way through the forest to get the flower.
Once you go up on the ladder, if you take the path going to the left, you’ll find a treasure chest. After opening the chest, keep going right to the next section.
The Guardian
Here, you’ll find the Lotus Flower that the younger sister was after. There’s an alteration here. If you interact with it, a guardian will be summoned, and you’ll have to fight against it.
This battle is mostly easy, and you’ll just have to step out of the way if the guardian jumps into the air with the pillar.
After you’ve defeated the guardian, you’ll be able to repair the alteration and will see a part of the story.
Furthermore, the path on your left will open up, allowing you to return to the sisters’ house.
Path To The Sisters’ House
As you drop down, you’ll spot a stone platform to your right. You’re unable to break it for now, but you’ll be able to destroy it after completing the Codex of Earth later on.
If you go left, you’ll find a ladder going downwards towards a pit. There’s one enemy here. Defeating the enemy will unlock a repair point.
After you’ve repaired it, go back on top through the ladder and keep going left. You’ll encounter many enemies on the way. Shortly ahead, there’s another repair point. You’ll see the younger sister rushing towards her home from here.
Repair the alteration on this node and go left. You’ll arrive in the poisonous forest, and if you keep going left here, you’ll eventually reach the sisters’ house.
Path To Spring
Enter the sisters’ house once again. You’ll find another alteration here. Repairing the alteration will unlock more of the codex’s story.
After experiencing more of the story, the path leading right out of the sisters’ house will open. This area is called Path to Spring. You’ll find many enemies on the way.
Keep going right, and you’ll find a resting point. You’ll see the final part of the story shortly.
Water Spirit Of Light Rain
After the resting point, if you go right, you’ll arrive at the Holy Spring. Here, you’ll encounter the water spirit, the final boss of the Codex of Water.
This boss has two phases, and the second phase activates after you’ve depleted half of its HP. The water spirit will often raise its hands in the first phase, causing bubbles to spawn out of it. These bubbles will follow you, but you can easily avoid them by dashing away.
During the battle, the boss will raise one of its hands, and a part of the area will start to glow red. You have to dash out of this area before the water spirit attacks.
In the second phase, this attack becomes even stronger because the spirit will now attack twice. The second attack also releases a shockwave, and you’ll have to jump over it or dash into it.
In the second phase, the boss will bring both of its hands together to spawn a number of bubbles that will stay in place for a long while.
If you come in contact with these bubbles while moving or jumping, you’ll take damage. The boss will also spawn some smaller enemies throughout the fight.
Regardless, the water spirit doesn’t have a lot of HP, and if you keep attacking it consistently, you’ll be able to chip away its HP easily.
You can also use the fire spell in your combos to build up the elemental burst gauge on the boss, which will give it a big chunk of damage when the gauge fills up.
Keep healing whenever the self-regeneration skill comes off cooldown. During the latter half of the fight, the boss will levitate into the air, and the water emblem will appear in the middle of the screen. You’ll then see several columns of red on the screen.
You have to step away from these red columns, as water will gush out of them shortly after. These columns will appear twice, and you won’t be able to damage the water spirit easily during this time.
A Strange Ball Of Light
After you’ve successfully defeated the Water Spirit of Light Rain, Ariana will pass out. A strange ball of light will appear and heal Ariana. She’ll then be able to repair the alteration.
Once you’ve repaired this alteration, the Codex of Water will regain power. Ariana will then arrive at the Hall of the Seven Heroes. After Ariana wakes up, she’ll have to talk with Berkley.
Library
Shortly after, Ariana will return to her room, where she’ll talk with Vester and Divina. After the conversation is over, you can head out of Ariana’s room. Here, if you go left, you’ll encounter Vester.
Vester is able to craft Magic Equipment out of the recipes that you’ve gathered on your journey. You can also purchase crests from her.
If you go further left, you’ll encounter Divina. Divina lets you gather resources by completing achievements, and you can also unlock and upgrade new spells from her.
After you’ve got the spells and the equipment ready, you can go right from Ariana’s room. Here, you’ll encounter a path leading to the Hall of the Seven Heroes. From here, you can access other codices
However, the game requires you to complete the four elemental codices first. You’ll have to pick one Codex out of the Codex of Earth, Wind, and Fire.
You can also return to the Codex of Water later on to 100% complete the repair after you’ve acquired the divekick ability to break the stone platforms in the Codex of Earth.
