Welcome to the Into Indie Games walkthrough for Beast of Reincarnation, covering Chapter 1: Seedling, Part 1.
Developed by Game Freak, the studio best known for the PokĂ©mon series, Beast of Reincarnation is one of the team’s most ambitious original action RPGs to date.
We’ve had our eyes on the game since its reveal, and now that it’s finally here, we’ll be putting together a complete walkthrough covering every chapter, boss fight, and all the important weapons, manuals, and key items you won’t want to miss along the way.

The Prologue

The game starts with a cutscene showing the main protagonist, Emma, inside a vehicle, watching over a little girl sleeping in bed as they make their way forward.
After some time, you get an announcement that the miasma is drawing closer toward your direction. This means one thing, the Nushi is nearby.

Emma asks to stop the vehicle and prepares herself to go outside and fight the dangers that come with the miasma. The path is straightforward, but the enemies are many.
This whole section basically teaches you the basics of combat in the game. You will learn how to fight as Emma and how to use your companion Koo during battle as well.
During your encounter with the first enemy, you will learn basic attacks and guarding, where Emma uses her sword as her primary weapon.

With the second set of enemies, you will learn how to use Koo’s abilities. This basically works like a Final Fantasy AP skill, where time slows down while it brings up the skill menu, allowing you to pick which one to use.
Each skill requires a number of FP points, and you gain FP by parrying. For the sake of the tutorial, you get unlimited FP, so feel free to use these skills as much as you wish.

After you defeat those enemies, keep pressing forward until you spot the building collapsing. As part of the miasma, you will see some branches grow. Emma can use her hair to leap to the blue points indicated.
Climb up to the other side, and you will encounter another set of flying enemies. Emma has an arsenal of weapons, so of course she gets a ranged option, which is a crossbow. Use the crossbow to defeat all the flying enemies.

Keep moving forward, and you will encounter even more enemies. This time, the game will teach you about Emma’s Blade Arts and Nushi Skills, which are unique skills that she can use as she lands attacks.
At this point, you will have multiple ones to try, so feel free to get used to using them, and don’t forget about Koo’s abilities. After clearing this set of enemies, make your way to the Nushi.

Surprisingly, you will find the Nushi standing near a mysterious man named Shidou. Emma charges at them with Koo and strikes. This is where the prologue ends, and it takes you back five months earlier.
Investigate The Village

Emma and Koo find themselves at the outskirts of a village. She gets instructions from a man named Brad, who reminds her of her mission to find and defeat the Nushi of this region.
Since Brad can’t pin down the Nushi’s exact location, he suggests going to the nearby abandoned village to find clues.
Down the hill, you will find a campsite. You can rest here, upgrade your weapons, acquire new skills, level up your attributes, and most importantly, save the game.

When you’re done with the campsite, continue down the hill to reach the abandoned village. Here, the only creature you will find is an old rusted Golem inside the house.
You might notice that the door to the left of the Golem is locked and requires a Red Key. Forget about it for now because we will come back to it later.

Approach the Golem and speak to him. Emma tells him that she is seeking the Nushi. The Golem confirms that there is the presence of one nearby.
In his words, at the end of the road, you should find a subcity where the Foreman is located, and he might have more clues. After the Golem says his last words, he shuts down.
Find The Foreman

Just as you exit the house, a Malefact will spawn, and you need to defeat it. This is a strong enemy, so you will need to parry its attacks. Remember that parrying restores FP, which Koo uses for his skills.
Parrying also builds up the enemy’s stagger meter. If you fill it, you can perform a lethal attack that acts as a finisher.

Follow the main path north out of the village. Toward the end of the road, you will find that there is no bridge to cross to the other side. However, this is no problem for Emma.
Emma can extend her hair to create paths and navigate the world, the same way she can lift herself up using her hair. Use this ability to cross to the other side and rest at the campsite there.
Search For The Subcity Entrance

After resting and upgrading your stats, progress forward. As soon as you do, you will notice that the forest starts to change shape. After sunset, the blight grows stronger and brings even more danger with it.

Multiple enemies will spawn, and you need to defeat all the Malefacts to clear the path. Once you defeat them all, the blight calms down, allowing you to continue forward.
Head north to the Subcity entrance, interact with the lever ahead to open the gate, and go down.
Obtain Mechblade (Light)

Before you progress toward the subcity, you can obtain a new weapon called Mechblade (Light) from the building at the very east of the village by the Bridge campsite. You will be able to spot it easily.

Use your hair to climb to the room at the very top of the building, and you will find it sitting on the right side of the room. There is also a Keeper Golem here that you can interact with.
Search For The Foreman

Back at the Subcity entrance, enter and go deeper down. Rest and save your progress at the campsite before moving forward.
The door at the end of this path is blocked, and you can unlock it by defeating the six enemies in the area. Don’t worry about finding them because Koo will highlight them when you are within their vicinity.

You can safely stay on the high ground and assassinate each one separately if you prefer a stealthy approach.
After you defeat all six enemies, the door will open. Before you go through, there is a strongbox in the building on the left that you can loot.

Behind the door, a Golem is guarding the path, and you need to defeat it before reaching the Foreman. You will find the Foreman sitting in the corner next to the strongbox. Speak to him.

The Foreman recognizes you as the Purifier, and he knows your mission to face the Nushi. During the conversation, you hear a strange noise above. It seems that the Nushi has left its lair, and this is your opportunity to strike.

Before you leave, take the bow from the Foreman’s hands so you can use it as your secondary ranged weapon. There are some vases on the wall across from you where you can practice with it.
Chase The Nushi To Its Lair

Emma needs to exit the subcity. Once you’re outside, Koo senses the Nushi passing nearby. At this moment, they hide until it passes so they can catch it off guard.

If you open your map, you will notice that the Nushi is waiting in the open area north of the Subcity entrance. Head there.

Before you drop down, unlock the campsite here and loot the Chain Mail armor from the nearby strongbox.
Upgrade Emma and Koo, enhance your weapons, obtain new skills, and prepare for the boss fight. Whenever you’re ready, drop down and prepare for battle.
All Manuals In Ogouchi Buffer Zone

Before you go on and defeat the Nushi once and for all, take your time and explore the surroundings. You can defeat elite enemies, find materials and ingredients, and much more, but the most important thing you shouldn’t miss is the manuals.
You can stumble across these manuals randomly as you explore. They unlock recipes for new tools to use in combat. However, there is a second way to reveal their locations.

Each map has certain NPCs called Keeper Golems, and Koo can detect them when you are nearby. When you approach one, you can ask it a single question, and it will answer.
They can reveal the locations of weapons, manuals, and more. Since we’re already showing you the manual locations, use your question to reveal something else instead.
The third and final manual is obtained as you progress further into the main story. We will highlight its location for you in Part 2.
Fire Arrows Manual

The first manual is Fire Arrows, which you can use for your bow. It is located in the building at the very southwest of the map. You will spot the rusted building being guarded by a ballista.

Climb to the room at the top of the building to pick up the Fire Arrows Manual. Below is a map showing its exact location.
Acid Bolt Manual

The second manual is Acid Bolt, which you can use for your crossbow. It can be found in the building directly west of Subcity 1 Entrance.

At the top, the entrance to the building is guarded by an elite enemy, but if you sneak around, you can easily avoid the fight if needed.
Beat The Nushi Rangifer (First Encounter)

Rangifer is a level 9 boss that fights similarly to the Antlered Malefact you encountered earlier in the region, so most of its attacks should already be familiar.
The first attack you will probably see is a hoof stomp followed by a straight charge. Watch its head as it closes in, then block or parry right as it raises its head near the end of the charge.

At close range, it uses antler swipes. A head tilt to the right means a single strike, while a tilt to the left signals a two-hit combo. This is the perfect opportunity to parry and build FP because these attacks are easy to time.
When it digs its antlers into the ground, it throws a cluster of rocks forward. Simply sprint to the side to avoid this attack.

Lastly, it can also fire spike projectiles directly from its body. If your timing is good, you can parry these projectiles. Otherwise, dodge or run to the side.
The strategy is simple: parry the antler swipes to gain FP, then use Koo’s Roots ability once you have four FP to bind the Nushi.
It will be stunned for a short time and left open to attacks. Repeat this strategy until the fight is over.

Don’t forget to use both of your ranged weapons to deal damage and build stagger. Once the stagger meter is full, perform a lethal attack to deal massive damage.
At around a quarter of its health, Rangifer will collapse to the ground. Take this opportunity to unleash as many attacks as possible.

Once you reduce its health to zero, you will obtain Rangiferine Memories, which grants Emma a new Nushi Skill called Sakura Storm.

Just when you think the Nushi is finished, it survives and escapes back to its lair. Emma really wants to pursue it and finish the job, but Brad urges her to return to the Cleanse Walker and reset.
Back At The Cleanse Walker

With Emma back at the Cleanse Walker, Brad reports his findings about the Nushi’s current status. In the meantime, Emma should rest and settle down before finishing the job.
The Cleanse Walker acts as a safe checkpoint where Emma can rest and upgrade her stats and skills.
In addition to everything you can normally do at any campsite, you can take a shower to remove the blood from Emma and Koo, interact with Brad to buy basic materials, and most importantly, sleep.

If you purchased the Deluxe Edition or preordered the game, interact with the bed and select Special Content to claim your rewards. You can change Emma’s hat or Koo’s skin.
And yeah, that’s literally the only customization you get in the game. That’s right, sadly there are no armor sets or fashion options whatsoever. Bummer.
