The Summit Pt. 3

Begin by rowing your boat towards the mountain until you reach the shore. Head right, through the field of flowers, the red river, and at the end of the path, climb the vines up. Continue on the path, going up the ladder and the ledge, and you will reach the summit.

At the summit, use your rock’s light blast to remove the bramble successively from each of the flowers. Once all the flowers are gone and the path is clear, pass through the doorway and use your light blast to clear the big flower beyond it.

It’s now time to enter the halls of the Mountain King proper.

Halls of the Mountain King

Run forwards to the end of the corridor and then interact with the giant painting of King Nils. Look down and then to the right to find a door that blends into the wall. Interact with this door to open it. Head in to find a familiar place.

Run towards the camera to enter the centre of the library again. As before, climb up onto the stool and examine the book on the reading desk. Read this book to its entirety and the path going right will open up for you. Head on to the right. Interact with the bookshelf and go through the passage.

You now find yourself in the Prince’s chambers. To exit through the door to the right, you will have to find the key to the door. This key is hidden behind a puzzle.

Three objects dear the King are located in this room, and each one bears a number. You will have to enter these three numbers onto the clock next to the bed by turning the hand of the clock. The order you enter these numbers in is hinted by the order of the paintings to the right of the clock.

Bramble: The Mountain King Walkthrough - Halls of the Mountain King

First off, we must find the hand of the clock. Go through the half-open double doors on the right side of the room. Interact with the suit to wear it, and then go to the clock and interact with it to put the hand in place.

As for the numbers you need to find, the first of these numbers is on the goblet, which you can find lying on the bed. The number is on the inside of the goblet, though you might have to rotate the goblet to spot it.

The second number is on a metal box on the right of the room, to the right of the locked door. The number can be found at the bottom of the box.

The third number is on the Prince’s sword, which can be found on the shelf where you entered the room from. The number at the base of the blade of the sword.

Go back to the clock and enter the numbers according to the correct order. The solution is below the image.

The numbers you need to enter into the clock are six, two, and ten, in that order. Align the clock hand to the six o’ clock position, interact to ‘set’ it, then move it to two o’ clock, interact, and repeat this for ten o’ clock. Once you’ve entered the numbers in correctly, you will hear a creaking sound.

Approach the table to the left of the locked door and pick up the key. Now interact with the door to open it.

We now find ourselves in a hall, which might very well belong to a king, who lives in the mountain. Proceed forwards until you find an area lit by sunlight. Proceed to the right from there.

Head on in to the forge and run forwards to climb up to the anvil, and then over the anvil. This section is similar to the Naecken section – you have to avoid the force wave from the hammering of the forge by hiding behind objects.

Start by hiding behind two iron ingots, and then run forwards to hide behind a wooden hammer (remember to crouch). Continue left and hide behind an iron block.

You’ll see two counterweights going up and down to the left. Jump on the first one when it’s safe, and quickly move towards the camera so that you’re safe from the force wave.

Go all the way around to the left, then jump onto the counterweight to the left, and once again, move towards the camera. This time, you have to wait for the counterweight you’re on to go up, and then quickly jump off to the left, behind cover.

Next up, jump on the bellows, run to their left, and hide behind the bellows. Remember to crouch behind the bellows, as standing seems to knock Olle out.

Once the impact is over, climb onto the bellows and jump to the left to climb onto the wall. If you miss the jump, hide behind the bellows again until the coast is clear.

The wall will fall, but you’ll get a wheel for some cover. Hide behind the opaque sections of the wheel as it advances, and then hide behind the iron block. We have another pair of counterweights here – repeat the exact same procedure as before to clear them.

On the other side, we have wooden planks offering us cover, but Olle will have to move slow as he balances on the wooden beam. Go from cover to cover and finally, when the coast is clear, jump over to the ledge to the left.

We’re now at a very big pair of double-doors, which are guarded by several bramble flowers. Switch to aiming your rock and then shoot down the bramble flowers. Aiming is a bit trick here, but as long as you can hit the circles, it’s fine.

Proceed through the opened double-doors and run for a good while. Go to the left as you run and forwards again, until you reach the sword.

Bramble: The Mountain King Walkthrough - Halls of the Mountain King

Climb the rusty sword and once on the top, go down onto the bramble. Follow the bramble path all the way to the left, until you encounter a flower. Hit the flower with your light blast for a makeshift conveyor belt.

And now, welcome to the final boss of the game: King Nils himself.

First off, notice the bramble flowers above his shoulders – you have to shoot down every single one of them to proceed to the next phase.

King Nils has two attacks in the first phase.

Bramble: The Mountain King Walkthrough - Halls of the Mountain King

First, he’ll use his knife to try to stab you, but his target locking is very slow, so you can easily dodge this attack by running consistently in one direction. Just be careful not to fall off the dinner slab!

Second, he’ll try to impale you with his fork. For this attack, watch the shadow of the fork on the ground and avoid the shadow, because the shadow will ‘lock’ on at a point and the fork will come down precisely over that spot.

When you get the opportunity, hit the flowers, but don’t get greedy.

After all the flowers are down, we enter phase two. Here, King Nils pulls out a sword and a scepter, both of which are bad news.

With the sword, King Nils performs a sweeping attack from right to left. You can avoid this attack by jumping over the sword as it sweeps.

Bramble: The Mountain King Walkthrough - Halls of the Mountain King

With the scepter, King Nils will slam it down on you much in the same way he did the fork. This time, however, the impact of the scepter will cause a bunch of rocks to fall down on you, so you can’t attack immediately after the scepter hit. First avoid the scepter hit, take one shot, then wait for the rocks and avoid them too, and then attack the flowers over King Nils’ shoulders.

Additionally, King Nils may strike his scepter and sword together, releasing a very powerful force wave that can knock you out instantly – unless you’re hiding behind one of the fallen pillars of stone. The only way to avoid this attack is to hide behind a stone pillar, so make sure you keep a pillar between yourself and King Nils whenever possible.

Once you’ve knocked out half of the flowers, you’ll enter phase three of combat.

King Nils’ reflexes are improved now, and he will leave less time for you to counter him. He will also do a backsweep on his sword, which you must avoid as well. This means that you need to jump once when he sweeps, and again when he back-sweeps. He retains the force wave attack, so remember to stay behind the pillars when possible.

Bramble: The Mountain King Walkthrough - Halls of the Mountain King

Once the final flower is down, you will have defeated the Mountain King.

After the cutscene plays, run forwards and keep going until you find a sword to climb up. Climb all the way up to the top of the sword, and then jump forwards, onto the King’s beard.
