Chapter 9 (Contd.)
Head into the village and you’ll find a new floating piece on a mat. Pick it up and put it on the map like so:
Head to the gate leading to the blue snow and open it. Cross the bridge to enter the white snow area. Head towards the tower and talk to the boy there to get another map piece.
Arrange the pieces around a couple of times so that you can meet the old man in the fur suit. Check the sequence below for one way to reach him.
When you talk to him, you’ll find that you once again have to fetch his backpack, this time from the Windy Woods.
Get to the bridge near the old man. Here, you’ll find a weather vane with a bird on it, which will tell you which way the wind is blowing. You can only walk in the Windy Woods in the same direction as the wind, so rotate the piece so that the bridge leads south-east.
Now enter the Windy Woods and rotate the piece by 180 degrees (upside-down). When you slide down, you should find the backpack in the woods. To actually retrieve it, you have to keep rotating the piece and moving left or right until you can get the backpack.
This will likely take many tries as you time and align yourself properly. Remember you need to interact with the backpack to pick it up, otherwise you’ll slide around it.
Once you have it, return to the old man by once again rotating the piece and reaching the bridge. Talk to the old man and you’ll find a pattern revealed on the monolith.
In truth, there are three patterns. You have to rotate the piece you’re on to see the other patterns. One side of the monolith will have a series of circles.
You have to recreate the patterns shown on the monolith on the map in order to activate the circles. Here are the patterns as created on the map:
Each time you get a pattern right, you’ll hear a chime. Note that after a circle on the monolith lights up, you can freely move the pieces again, i.e. they do not have to stay in the same pattern at the same time.
Once you get it right, the tower will start to glow, and the monolith will emit a ray of light that bounces 90-degrees against obstacles. You need to rotate and place the pieces of the map so that you can direct the light to the tower.
Here is one solution:
Once you get it right, a new piece will appear. To navigate to this piece, make your way to the village first, and then connect the line-shaped piece to your square piece. Here is one way to do it:
Head to the chest in the centre of the line piece and talk to each of the villagers there. After you talk to everyone, stand in the empty space near the old man. This will get him to open the chest.
Later in the village, pick up the paper airplane. Head to where Shianan is in the village and talk to the guy near her, then talk to Shianan herself.
After this, talk to each of the villagers. Once you’ve talked to everyone, talk to Shianan again and she’ll ask you if you want to leave. Answer with a yeah, and you’ll be off again. To the next chapter!
