Ask about the victim’s health, and she will give you the Headache medicine. Hold onto it for now.

Ask about the “witness report: and then “finding the body” for more details. You will get a note that the door was locked.

Ask about last night, and you can now visit George Taubert. Using your notes, ask her about the dirty windows, and you will make a note that the roof is accessible from the street.

Do not forget to grab the magnet before you leave. You will find it on a little trophy-like golden statue on the bookshelf. This will really come in handy later.

Click on the sandwiches twice and then talk to the assistant about them. He will be uncooperative with any questions until you find him an interesting story. Choose any option and then click on the clock while he is distracted.

Talk to him again and select “Lunchtime.” He will now fall asleep. Examine the glue brush in a small pot near him.

Examine the wrapping of the sandwich, and you will find a scrap of paper saying that popular stories are famous. Pick up another scrap of paper in the waste basket on the desk behind.

Examine the stack of papers on the desk of the assistant. Check out the bulletin board to get another hint. You will now have a basic idea about the kind of story they want.

Talk to the reporter again and choose the following options to tell him the correct story.

  • A lapdog who…
  • Was rescued from water…
  • In the tenements of Lindenau…
  • Yesterday….

The editor will talk to you now after you talk to the assistant once again. Go to his office and talk about Gustav Taubert.

Ask about his workplace and he will tell you the location of his desk. Talk to him about his last story, and he will tell you that he “announced a revelation,” and you will make a note of this.

Examine the items on the second desk in the front row, which was Taubert’s workplace. Check the appointment scheduled on 10th October, and you will make a note that he had an appointment with Clemans Rodan.

Before you leave the Newspaper agency, check the stack of papers on his desk as well. You will find a negative review of Johann Hirsch’s book written by the victim.

George Taubert

After the man near the bush halts you and you inform him about his brother’s death, he needs some time for himself. So give him the space and examine five items in the garden.

You can also talk to the woman sitting in one corner. She will inform you about her ring going missing.

Talk to the man when he feels better. During your conversation, he will mention Cafe Francais and that an upset man was talking to his brother about something.  Open your notebook and ask him about the “negative review.” You will get a note regarding “Gustav meeting Johann.”

Cafe Francais

Talk to the man with the white beard. He can’t hear you, so you first need to do something about the gramophone. Our Casebook 1899 walkthrough has the solution below to progress through case three.

Talk to the man near the gramophone, and he will identify himself as Clemans Rodan. Ask him questions related to the case, and you will learn that he was at “his office at the time of the crime.”

This lawyer won’t let you turn off the gramophone. So you have to do things the hard way. Wait for him to close his eyes, and when he does, pour the medicine you got earlier into what he is drinking.

Turn off the music and examine the funnel of the gramophone. You can use it to amplify your voice for the old man. So talk to him again by using that funnel.

This man is apparently Johann, who had some bad feelings about the victim. When you ask him about last night, he will tell you that he was “at the cafe until the closing time.” Take a biscuit from the plate on the right and go visit Gustav Taubert’s study again.

Combine the two notes, namely “ Gustav panned Johann’s book,” and “Gustav met Johann after dinner.” You will get a motive here titled “Johann Hirsch’s Reputation.”

Combine the notes regarding Clemens’ appointment and Gustav’s revelation. You will get another motive regarding Clemen Rodan’s secret.

Study – Part Two

When you visit a roof, a cat will be blocking your way. So our Casebook 1899 walkthrough will help you set a trap for her.

Go to the rooftop by leaving the room and visiting the roof. Cover the chimney plates on the far right of the roof with some glue. Use the cookies here, and after a small scene, the cat will leave.

casebook 1899 case three

Examine the chimney plate covers on the left side. Take a look at the middle part and you will notice some “scratches in the chimney.”

Also, examine the broken cracks on the wall. You will also pick up one of the stones here.

Combine the two notes regarding the “scratches in the chimney” and the “roof being accessible.”

George Taubert – Part Two

casebook 1899 case three

Examine the flagpole in the garden, and the flag will fall down. Remember the stone you picked up earlier; use that to block the fountain.

This will drop the bird’s nest on the ground, which you can examine. You will find the lady’s missing ring, so you can go ahead and return it.

This woman is apparently the sister in law of the victim, so you can answer questions related to Gustav’s personal life. After talking to her about everything, you will make two notes that neither her or George had an alibi for the night of the crime.

Talk to George once again regarding the rivalry between the two brothers. He will tell you that he values his family bond more than petty arguments. Leave him be for now.

Cafe Francias – Part Two

Talk to the white beard man again and ask about the two notes related to George’s alibi.

You will get a note saying “George is a regular at Blue Lantern.”

Newspaper – Part Two

Talk to the editor once again while consulting your notebook. Ask him about the “Blue Lantern” note, “Clemans Rodan,” and Johann staying at Cafe Francias.”

You will learn that Clemans Rodan has “no witnesses that could confirm his location at the law office.” You will also note that “Johann was not seen in the cafe.”

He will also tell you that to visit Blue Lantern, you will need to talk to a couple in Cafe Francias. Blue Lantern is a secret location in Casebook 1899 which you can now access to solve case three.

Combine the note regarding Johann’s alibi, where he claimed he was in the cafe, with the information regarding his sighting that the editor just gave you. You will get a decision related to his alibi here.

Also, combine two notes with conflicting reports of Clemen’s alibi to get another decision here. We will use this information in the case three resolution section of our Casebook 1899 walkthrough.

George Taubert – Part Two

Examine the book which is lying near the woman. You will make a note that Dora received a letter from Clemans.

Cafe Francias – Part Three

Talk to Clemen’s regarding the letter he sent to George’s wife, and you will get a note that George lost his inheritance.

Combine this note with Dora’s letter note, and you will get a motive regarding George Taubert’s inheritance.

Talk to him about Dora Taubert’s alibi, and he will say that he “saw her on the streets.”

Talk to the woman wearing a black dress, and you can visit Blue Lantern just below the cafe.

A woman is sitting there, and before she answers your questions, you will need to play a game with her.

You will just need to follow the ball, and when she shuffles the cups, you will need to pick the right cup. Unfortunately, she cheats in the last round, so you will need to figure out a way to expose her.

Remember that magnet you grabbed in the study, it will be handy here. Choose “examine game” after talking to her, and use it on the metallic ball.

Play the game again to clear it. After winning, consult your notebook and ask about George Taubert being a regular here. You will find out that he uses drugs. This changes a lot of reasoning your might have made earlier regarding case three in Casebook 1899.

George Taubert – Part Three

Talk to George’s wife again and present her with the new information you just found at Blue Lantern. She will tell you that she knew about this addiction, and you will make a note of it.

Combine the notes that he is a known drug user, and the note that he has no alibi for the night of the crime. You will get a decision regarding his alibi.

Combine the notes that “George did not come home” and “his wife was seen on the streets.”  You will get a decision regarding Dora Taubert’s alibi.

Case Resolution

Now it’s time to solve case three in Casebook 1899, and the following walkthrough contains spoilers, so avoid them if you’d rather figure out everything yourself.

  • In “Was the door open?”, choose “Access with Key”
  • In “George Taubert’s Inheritance”, choose “Letter delivered”
  • In “How was the fire put out?”, choose “Put out with water”
  • In “Gustav Taubert Drugged”, choose “He was under the influence.”
  • In “Scratches in the chimney”, choose “Fireplace had no meaning”
  • In “George’s alibi”, choose “He had no alibi.”

The above options will incriminate George in the case. To reach another conclusion, select the following.

  • In “Was the door open?”, choose “No one had access.”
  • In “Scratches in the chimney”, choose “Something was lowered.”
  • In “How was the fire put out?”, choose “Extinguished with something”
  • In “George Taubert’s Inheritance”, choose “Letter intercepted”
  • In “Dora’s Alibi”, choose “She had no alibi.”

This will incriminate Dora Taubert in the case. It is the correct ending to this case considering her strong motive, knowledge and lack of alibi.

There are three more endings you can reach here, but none of them are true or make sense, considering they didn’t know about drugs. Choose the following options to declare Clemans as the killer.

  • Clemans’ Rodan without an alibi
  • The secret is motive.
  • No one had access
  • Put out with something
  • Victim under the influence
  • Something was lowered

To incriminate Johann, choose the following.

  • The fight is a motive
  • Johann had no alibi

To incriminate no one, choose the following.

  • No one had access
  • Put out with water
  • Only creative writing
  • Fireplace had no meaning
