You are presented with a rather peculiar traffic accident. The details here are too suspicious, so you can’t rule out murder. For more information on the game, check out the Steam page.

Police station

Casebook 1899

You start in the police station when you suddenly hear someone knocking on your door. On the right side, on top of the lockers, pick up the lantern. This will come in handy later. Examine the door which you heard knocking.

You need the keys to open it, so let’s find them. Click the key holder directly to the right of the door, but it’s not there.

Casebook 1899

Examine the filing cabinet to get a note that they are “sorted alphabetically.” Examine your desk to get another note that you “last worked on the Rosenlocher case”

Open your notes and combine both of them, and the location of the key will be revealed. Apparently, the detective misplaced it in the cabinet when he took the files for the case.

Casebook 1899

Open the drawer with the letter R, and you will obtain the key. From your Inventory, select the key and open the door to greet Inspector Welm. Talk to the inspector, and after selecting each option, you need to choose “Give Up”.

He will then tell you that your case is related to a traffic incident with foul play involved that also left the driver dead. Go outside the police station by clicking the door, and the map will open.

Your next destination is Konneritz Bridge.

Konneritz Bridge

Casebook 1899

This is the scene of the incident, so you really need to investigate thoroughly here, but our Casebook 1899 Walkthrough will guide you through it.

Examine the brake band of the motorcycle lying on the bottom left side of the screen. You will get a note that “it is broken”

Examine the corpse lying on the side to make a note of a “head wound” on the driver. You can also examine the toolbox, but there appears to be no use for it right now.

Casebook 1899

Talk to the inspector to learn more about the case. Ask about “The body”, “Cause of the accident”, and “witnesses”. You will get another note which reads that the driver “drowned”. The inspector also mentions a witness who is standing on the left side wearing a white shirt.

Casebook 1899

After talking to the inspector regarding the victim’s identity, his name is Eduard Uhlich, and you can now visit Villa Uhlich to continue your investigation.

Casebook 1899

The witness in the white shirt will not talk to you yet, so you will need to get him something to eat, but we will get to that later in the case and you will eventually find the solution following this walkthrough. Now you have to visit Villa Uhlich.

Villa Uhlich

This is the late victim Eduard Uhlich’s residence, and our detective thinks that there are important clues to find.

Talk to the mechanic named Max Topfer, who is standing near the Garage wearing a jumper. Select Eduard Uhlich and then ask about the “morning of the incident”. You will get a note saying that the victim was very “agitated in the morning and spoke incoherently.”

When you ask more about Uhlich’s marriage, he will tell you it wasn’t exactly pleasant, and you will make a note of this as well, reading that they “last had a bitter argument.”

Talk to the victim’s wife, named Emma Uhlich, who is wearing a dress, standing on the right side of your screen. Ask her about Max Topfer, the mechanic, and she will tell you that he argued with Eduard regarding “withheld wages”, which you add to your notes.

Check your notebook and ask her about the bitter argument, and you will get another note saying that “Eduard had several mistresses.”

Combine the notes regarding the “bitter argument” and the “several mistresses”, and you will get a motive for murder titled “Emma’s Motive.”

Go back to Topfer and ask him about the “Withheld Wages.” He then talks about quitting his job as the lead mechanic and handing in the “notice.” You will make a note of this as well.

Combine the two notes related to Topfer’s quarrel, and you will get a motive named “Max’s Motive.” Examine the board with many tools, and you will realize that one of them is missing.

Examine the bowl placed on a garden’s hedge, and you will get a note reading that the bowl contains “deadly nightshade.” When you examine the bush, the prosecutor will tell you that these berries are poisonous.

Talk to his wife again and select the note about the berries. You will get a note that “Emma Uhlich collected these by accident.” Combine the notes regarding “Incoherent Speaking” and “Emma’s accident.”

It’s now time to make your decision, and you can select either of the two, although it does seem highly likely that Emma knew about the danger of the berries. Go back to the site of the incident. You are now close to reaching the truth.

Konneritz Bridge – Part Two

It’s now time to talk to that stubborn witness. Pick up the hammer from the toolbox, which you couldn’t previously.

Use the hammer on the planks that are under construction. A lunchbox will drop, which you can give to the witness.

Ask about the driver suffering a “brake band” to see what he has to say. You will get a note that the driver “neither tried to swerve nor to jump off.” Combine it with the “head wound” note to make another decision.

Select Eduard Uhlich could not react in time, because of what we previously learned at his residence. You will see a new link “poison” here.

Clicking on it will unlock a solution, incriminating his wife. You can end the case here if you wish, but let’s make sure we investigate thoroughly to catch the right person responsible. Our Casebook 1899 walkthrough will help you reach the right answer.

Go back to the residence to bring the case to fruition.

Villa Uhlich – Part Two

Use your lantern in the dark part of the garage to investigate. You will find a pair of scissors here.  Combine the scissors and the brake band to make a note that “the edges of the brake band and the blades of the scissors seem similar.”

You now have to combine it with the broken brake band note. Open your notebook and make a decision regarding this point.

Madcap Motorist – Case Resolution

Now it’s time to solve this case, using every clue you collected using our Casebook 1899: Case One Walkthrough.

  • In the “Torn Brake Band” decision, select that the driver broke it on purpose.
  • For “Emma’s knowledge”, select the option that she didn’t know about the berries’ toxic effect.
  • Choose the earlier decision you made regarding “Edvard’s consciousness”, and choose that he tried to brake the bike.

Select “Sabotage” and choose “Two murderers” or choose “Max Topfer murderer.” The correct solution is that both of them conspired to kill him. If you select the latter option, the case won’t get the correct solution, and the old lady you were telling the story to feels that something is incomplete.
