Train Station

Talk to the Station Master named Muller. He will tell you the details of the incident. Ask him about  “Unusual Events”. He will also inform you that the Night Watchman Stepan and a passenger are also missing.

When you ask about the “Night Watchman”, Muller will tell you where he lives, so you can now visit Poor District.

After talking about the Missing Passenger, he will tell you more about Lost Luggage, which is still inside the train. You will also get a note here with his name, which is “Christian Haase.”

Check the front of the train to make another note that the smoke chamber can be locked and unlocked from outside. Talk to the stationmaster about this note, and he will clarify that it cannot be done from the inside.

Examine just below the chamber to make notes about the corpse’s condition. You will make two notes here that the identity of the body is unclear, and one about a handkerchief with the initials CBH on the body. Combine both of them to get a decision regarding who these belong to.

Go further inside the station till you reach a dark room. Turn on the lights by pressing the switch on the right. Apparently, it short-circuits, so you now need to solve a puzzle to fix it.

The puzzle is rather confusing, so you can just skip it if you wish, but this Casebook 1899 walkthrough has a solution with the image below if you want to solve it!

Click on a sheet near some boxes on the left, and you will add it to your inventory. Click on a jewellery box on the right side of the storage room to make a note of it. You also have to solve a puzzle to unlock it.

To solve it, you have to adjust the wavy lines below accordingly to make sure they match the lock above. You will find that the box is empty after solving it, and you will make a note of this as well.

Pick up the book from the shelf below, and it seems to be a joke book about accounting. You will add it to your inventory for now.

Examine the slightly opened door, and the detective will make a note about someone “breaking into the luggage room.”

Click on the piece of paper on one of the boxes. Examine both the name “Christian Haase” and the address written below to add another location for investigation.

Combine the two notes related to “empty jewellery box” and “sign of breaking in”, and you will get your first decision. For now, select “Stolen Jewellery.

Talk to the station master again, and he will tell you that the chamber was firmly locked. Combine this note with the chamber cannot be unlocked from inside note. You will get a decision, and for now, you can select that “it was murder.”

Villa Haase

Pick up the invitation to a card game that is lying just below the door. Investigate the cracks on the upper part of the house, and the prosecutor will tell you that the Haase had “financial problems” recently.

Click on the doorbell on the right side of the door, and someone will come to greet you. When you ask him about Haase, you will be told that he is away. He will tell you that he is probably at Altes Theater when you ask about his whereabouts.

When you ask about “Family”, the person will ask you to take the back entrance. Use the invitation with the butler, and you will make a note regarding “invitations to gambling.”

Casebook 1899

Go towards the rear side of the house. You are immediately greeted by a dog, which you need to take care of if you want to investigate further. Go to the next location till the dog calms down.

Poor District

Casebook 1899

Talk to the person near the fireplace, he is an accountant who lost his job recently. Ask him about his place of work and then his passion. Then talk about book keeping job.

Ask about Stepan and then the drinking buddy. You will make a note that he is a Drinker.

Casebook 1899

Knock on the door of the house on the right, and a man will ask you to talk to Stepan’s Landlady. Knock on the door directly above. After saying some ominous things, the Landlady refuses to talk to you.

Talk to the man by the fireplace again and ask about the landlady. He will say that she won’t open the door until she sees a ghost. We will get to this part later after collecting some evidence in our Casebook 1899 Walkthrough.

Casebook 1899

Show him the joke book a few times, and he says he doesn’t want to be a carver anymore. He will drop his knife, and now you can pick it up.

Theatre

Talk to a snobbish-looking man and he will reveal himself to be an actor named Guissepe. You could ask him questions, but he is annoyed by the fruit seller, so you must first calm him down.

Talk to the man next to the fruit stall. Ask him about the “Theatre” and then “Christian Haase.” Then ask him about “Last Seen” and “Character”

Casebook 1899

Examine the fruit stand and check a few fruits. You will make a note that the grocer keeps the good fruit near the front. This is strange because he previously claimed to be blind.

Right-click on the seller, and you will make a note that he shouts loudly when wealthy people pass by. Combine the two notes regarding this seller. You will get a new note that he is just pretending.

Casebook 1899

Talk to him again regarding this point. Then choose shouting, and he will calm down. Now ask the actor some questions.

Ask about Christian Haase, and the actor will tell you that his full name is Christian Bruno Haase. Remember that handkerchief with the initials. Yeah, it’s coming together, but you still can’t make a decision yet.

Combine the notes that his name is Bruno and the note regarding the name of the missing passenger. You will get a clue to the missing initials decision. Pick up an apple from the fruit stall before leaving.

Villa Haase – Part Two

Now you can use the apple you bought as bait to take care of the dog. Once it’s distracted, use the knife to cut down the rope holding it. The dog will escape, which will give you room to conduct an investigation.

Grab the rope near the shed on the back. You can now enter the house from the back entrance. Talk to the lady playing the piano, and she is confused about what her next note should be. Examine the sheet above, which has the letters “CDEGA”.

To solve this puzzle, you will need to look at where the bird is sitting while she plays the piano. The letters which you got from the sheet correspond to the bird’s position from bottom to top. So C is the lowest position and A is the highest.

Select the correct note based on that. It will be different in every attempt, so you will need to be observant here, but if you follow the instructions in our Casebook 1899 walkthrough, you can solve it precisely.

After you help her, she will be willing to answer questions related to the victim. Ask her about the gambling invitations, and you will get a note saying that Christian Haase was addicted to gambling.

Combine the “Gambling” note with “Haase’s house needs repairs”, and you will get a new decision. For now, you can select that Christian Haase had no money.

Poor District – Part Two

Casebook 1899

The old lady is the key to several mysteries, so our Casebook 1899 walkthrough will help you get her to talk. Combine the sheet with the rope, and you will have a makeshift ghost. Hang it on the rope above and check the trash cans to gain the lady’s attention.

The lady will move out, and you can talk to her. She is extremely superstitious and wants a priest before she tells you anything.

Theatre – Part Two

Casebook 1899

Talk to the actor here and show him the note regarding the priest. He will then handle the old lady himself.

Poor District – Part Three

Casebook 1899

The woman will now talk to you, so ask about Stepan. When you ask about his apartment, a note will be added that the lady locked it.

Examine the boxes near Stepan’s house and investigate his belongings. Examine the rental letter to find out the full name of the missing watchman. Examine the book with the Russian title, and you will find out that he could read Russian.

Casebook 1899

You will also get another note during this part regarding Stepan losing his home due to unpaid rent.

Combine the notes regarding his full name and the fact that he could read Russian and Cryllic. You will get a clue to the missing initials decision.

Casebook 1899

Combine that “Stepan is a drinker” and that “he lost his apartment.” Make a decision that Stepan has no money.

Tender Tragedy – Case Resolution

Casebook 1899

This part of our Casebook 1899 walkthrough has some spoilers, so if you would rather solve the case yourself, you can stop right here.

Following the previous decisions you made regarding murder and stolen jewellery, and the financial conditions of Stepan Norikov. Make a decision related to the “Identitiy of the Deceased” and choose that the victim is Christian Haase.

On the “Stepan’s Motive” you got, you can select Jewelry Found. From here, you can conclude that the murderer is Stepan. But is that the right truth? To get the true ending, you have to explore other possibilities.

Casebook 1899

Select “What Happened To Jewelry” decision and choose Jewelry was never in the luggage.

Make a decision regarding “Haase’s motive” and select Insurance Fraud, and you can conclude that he was the murderer. This is the correct answer, but there are two more endings you can reach here.

Casebook 1899
  • In the “Accident or Murder” decision, choose Accident.
  • In “Stepan Norikov Finance” Decision, choose Stepan Harmless.
  • You can conclude that Stepan was an accident victim.
Casebook 1899

For the last ending, choose the following options

  • The Deceased Is Haase
  • Jewelry Never In Luggage
  • Haase has no money
  • You will get Haase victim decision here, but this doesn’t make sense considering that Stepan had no motive.
