After you managed to gain control of the substation in Code Vein 2, you and Josée made your way to the deep bottom of the Sunken Pylon to eliminate the Metagen Remnant.
This step is just bringing you closer to discovering the nature and whereabouts of Josée’s key so you can return to the present and slay her form to help stop the Resurgence.

Defeat The Metagen Remnant

After you reach the bottom of the Pylon, you will encounter the fight against the Metagen Remnant. Josée tried to defeat it in the past, and just as she was about to finish it off, her powers went rogue and ruined the whole attempt.
So it is about time to get rid of the Metagen once and for all, to stop it from existing and clear the water.
Metagen Remnant is an odd-looking boss that throws a constant mix of heavy arm slams and fire pressure at you, and the rhythm of the fight changes depending on how close you stand.
If you keep your distance, the fight leans more into ranged fire and beam attacks, while staying close puts you right in the middle of heavy arm slams and fast swings that deal a lot of damage.
Melee Attack Patterns

A common opener is a heavy elbow drop where a large arm lifts up and follows your movement for a moment before crashing into the ground.
Dodging right as it lands is safer than rolling too early, since the impact has a small radius around it.
That pressure often flows straight into quick sweeping swings in front, sometimes ending with both arms slamming down and spreading outward, so backing up and letting the full motion finish is usually the safest option.

Keep your eyes on what comes next and play it safe when you are unsure.
Another dangerous sequence is a forward lunge where both hands come slamming together at your position. Creating distance as the charge starts and adding a last second dodge keeps you clear and gives you room to reset.
Spending too much time behind the boss is risky, since that usually triggers a fast tail slam after a short hop, forcing you to dodge sideways or reposition. Because of that, lingering behind it is not recommended.
Ranged Attack Patterns

The boss’ fire attacks are what keep you moving for most of the fight. The Metagen can rise slightly and spit out tracking fireballs that chase your position. In this situation, sprinting sideways works more reliably than trying to dodge each one.
At other times the boss ignites marked spots scattered around the arena, including areas close to you. The simplest way to avoid this is to keep running instead of standing still.

There is also a high leap that ends in a crushing slam directly on your position, and it can occasionally chain into a faster second impact.
Waiting until the last moment before dodging helps you avoid both hits and leaves a short opening once the boss settles, which you can use to land a few attacks or recover stamina and heal depending on the situation.
The biggest ranged threat comes from a long beam fired from the mouth that first drags across the ground and then sweeps the arena from both sides.
Dodging into the beam or staying close to the sides of the body lets it pass without clipping you. Once the laser ends, there is a brief window where you can step back in and apply pressure before the next attack cycle begins.
Obtain Josée’s Key

After you manage to defeat the Metagen, Josée will thank you for helping her with everything to save her city. She then proceeds to give you the weapons she used to defeat the boss fight.

What you don’t know is that this is actually the “key” to unseal Josée’s cocoon and slay her in the present. But before returning to the present, you must go back to the base and inform the others of the good news.

The inhabitants will already see that the water is clearing and the city is once again happy with the results.
After regaining control of your character, Lou needs to speak to you about the weapon Josée gave you, so you must interact with the Mistle inside.

This will transport you to the Confluence. Lou explains that this is the key that has been sought to use it in the present. You now know your next goal, but before leaving the past, you need to part ways with Josée.
Head back to the Throne Era and you will find Josée standing there. During the cutscene, she will explain all her new plans for the city to repair it and make it better.

She then quickly realizes your time here is up and that you need to leave, but she is grateful for everything you have done for her and the Sunken City.
As one last token of gratitude, Josée will give you her Summoning Forma so you can use her as a partner.
Release Josée’s Seal

It’s time to go back to the present, so use the same bond at the top of the base to return. You will be able to see the changes taking effect in the present as the water clears.
From here, you and Lou need to go back to Josée’s cocoon and use the key you obtained to unseal it. Make your way to the clock tower, which you now know the location of.

Approach the seal and interact with it. Your character will use the weapons Josée gave you and send them through the seal. This will break the seal, and a strange creature will emerge.
This creature is actually Josée herself, as you recognize her voice and her regrets about what happened to her sister. But there is nothing to do for her in this state, other than to fight her and release her from her pain.
Defeat Josée The Blind Hero
Phase 1

Josée the Blind Hero fights with a long golden sword and mixes fast sword swings with occasional stomps.
The fight changes depending on distance – keeping back gets you lunges and ground stabs, while staying close throws you into combos that deal heavy damage.

One of the first attacks you’ll notice is a forward lunge where she hops toward you and stabs the sword into the ground. The stab tracks your last position, so dodging toward the Blind Hero as she lands is the safest way to avoid it.
She can also charge the sword and slam it into the floor, creating glowing targets around her that can throw off your balance if you stand in them.

Her swings come in single or double patterns, sometimes mixed with a stomp and spinning sweep.
It usually works better to dodge into the attack or circle close, rather than backing away. This also gives you a chance to strike when she finishes the combo. You can also avoid side-to-side swings by getting behind her or dodging forward.

However, do not stay behind her for long, as staying right behind the boss is risky too, given that she can stomp and spin, and adding an extra swing in phase two can catch you off guard.
The safest way is to wait for the combo to end before committing to an attack.

Halfway through depleting Josée’s health bar, you will get a cutscene where she recognizes you as the person who helped her in the past. She then grabs her sword and stabs herself with it.
Josée asks you to end her suffering, as she has endured enough and the Resurgence has taken hold of her. You must strike her down to release her from the corruption and finally bring peace to her soul.
Phase 2

Phase two of this fight keeps most of the same sword attacks, but everything hits harder and some moves carry extra pressure.
The ground stab now creates bigger targets beneath you, and standing on them can get you caught or bound, so you must keep moving constantly.

The stomp and spinning combo now adds an extra swing at the end, which can catch you if you attack too soon. Waiting for the full chain to finish before stepping back in is safer than trying to rush it.
The biggest change comes from a set of orb attacks that control the arena and force you to watch more than just the sword.

At times, Josée will kneel and release golden orbs from her back that float outward and explode in a medium radius. The easiest way to stay safe is to move toward the center near the sword wielder as they spread, so you don’t get trapped at the edges.
She can also fire smaller orbs in a line from her hand that explode into binding zones, so repositioning left or right or changing distance keeps you out of trouble.

The second phase feels more crowded than the first, but the approach stays the same. Keep moving when the ground lights up, stay close during sword chains, and wait for a clear ending before going on the offensive.
Watch your positioning, read the openings, and don’t over-commit. Patience works better than rushing her down, and greed will only get you killed.
Slay The Hero Josée

Once you finally manage to defeat Josée, the Resurgence within her will give up, and she will surrender herself for you to end her.
Your character approaches her and places their hand on her heart to finish her off. As soon as your hand and her heart meet, you are sent to the memories realm.

Here you will see how she fought the second Resurgence, the one that wasn’t documented, and you will hear her speak about someone and the Resealing process in which she took part to stop the Resurgence from spreading.
This is a sad ending for Josée, but you have to do what you came here to do. Josée sounds relieved as she says her last words, knowing that this serves a greater purpose.

This is where Josée’s arc concludes, but you still need to go after three more heroes to do the same as you did with her.
