After discovering the Abyss in Crimson Desert, you still need to return to Hernand and search for the whereabouts of your comrades.
However, you soon find yourself getting pulled into helping the villagers there, but will this truly help you, or bring you any closer to finding your friends?

Unexpected Gift

Now that you know about the Abyss and return to Hernand, you will notice that the green pendant from the kid starts shining, and it will emit a light toward a tower outside of the village.

As you approach the tower, you will notice some villagers running away from it, screaming that bandits have taken over. Go to the tower and kill every last bandit there in order to free it.
Now the door to the tower will be covered by bushes and vines, and you need to burn them. In order to do that, aim your bow at the brazier at the entrance, and this should light your arrow on fire.

Shoot the arrow at the door, and all the shrubbery will burn away, allowing you to access the inside. Take the stairs up, but be careful as you come across a few traps on the way.
Memory Fragment

At the top of the tower, you will spot a strange golden helmet sitting on the ground. Pick it up, and it will automatically be equipped on your head. Your surroundings will turn blue, and you will see a ghost speaking to you.
He will explain the purpose of this helmet, called Visione, which you will be able to use to see memory fragments of the past.
You can unequip this helmet from the quick access menu or from your inventory for now, as you will only need it when you want to see a memory fragment.
Reunion

Just outside of the tower, you will see the pendant boy waiting for you there with his cat. They want to thank you for the kind gesture you did for them earlier in the game. The boy asks you to follow the black cat.
Follow the cat up the hill until you reach some ruins. The entrance to the ruins will be blocked, and you will see a kid ghost showing you how to open it.
If you focus on it, you will learn the skill Nature’s Grasp that allows you to lift and move heavy objects.

Now approach the entrance and use the skill yourself to open the ruins. Inside, there is a little puzzle that you need to complete.
You have three disks on the wall, and if you use Force Palm on the core coming out, it will change their formations.

This is because you need to do it in a specific order for all of them to be active: middle, left, then right. If you do it in this order, it will activate the pillar at the entrance. Make sure to pick up the Abyss Artifact from it as your reward.
Just outside, you will see a different one of these kids. She will thank you for helping her friend Rulupee and then disappear.
Hernand In Chaos

Head back to Hernand and go to the main square. You will come across a group of people speaking about Greymanes. The knight among them will introduce himself and will want to challenge you to a duel.
Kliff happily accepts, and this will start a duel. Matthias is not really a boss fight; it is more like a test of your skills in combat.

Matthias uses a longsword and performs basic sword swings and kicks. These are easy to predict, and you can guard against them easily.
After you successfully beat Matthias in the duel, he will feel honored to fight you and will thank you for the opportunity. This fight will attract the attention of one of the witnesses of the duel. Approach the man standing near the notice board.
He will introduce himself, and he wants your help in restoring peace to the region, as there is someone behind it.

Your next objective will show that you need to clear all the bandits from the Springtide Mill. This is located to the southeast of the town, so head there.
As soon as you approach the site, bandits will attack you, and you need to clear every single one of them. You will see a percentage on the left side of the screen that shows if there are any remaining.

Now that you have freed the mill, you need to check out the notice board there. It seems that a few strange incidents have been happening and causing chaos among the village, which proves the point of the man from earlier.
Kliff needs to approach the board and check the four posters labeled as: Missing Cows, Horn Thief, Missing Wooly, and Strange Noises from the Cave.

After you inspect them, they will be added as missions on your map, and you need to complete all four of them. You can do them in any order you want.
Trial After Trial

Northwest of the Mill, a man lost all his cattle to bandits, and you need to speak to him to see if you can help his case. Head to the village marked on your map, and you will find the man speaking about it.
Listen to his story and agree to help him. First, you will need to speak to the witnesses just outside of the town. You will find two men speaking by the road sign about it.

At first, they will not want to help you, but as soon as Kliff shows some coin to them, they will fight over it. The Herbalist will ride his horse and ask you to follow him, and he will show you the bandits that took the cattle.
After you reach the camp, kill all the bandits there. Unfortunately, you will see that all the cattle are dead, but you still need to know what happened.

If you take out your lantern and direct it toward the cows, you will be able to spot a memory fragment.
Focus on it until the learning process is finished, then take out the Visione to play the memory.

After you watch the memory fragment, head back to Bremer and inform him about what happened. He will be sad about losing everything, but there is nothing more you can do for him. You will, however, continue seeking the source of the problem.
The Man Trapped In The Mire

Head to the town for this quest, and you will find an angry man called Ibano speaking to his friends about getting robbed. After you finish your conversation with him, head toward the small camp marked on your map.

Here you will find a couple of bandits; kill them. After you defeat them, just like before, take out your lantern and aim it toward the memory fragment. Focus to learn it and then play it using the Visione.
After you finish watching the memory, on the rock you will be able to find a mysterious elixir. Pick it up and take it back to Ibano.

He will be happy to know that his wares are by the river waiting for him to pick them up. It seems he does not recognize the bottle, but he will happily take it from you; he even forgot to go and retrieve his wares.
Missing Companion

For your next task, you need to head east toward Bloomwood Ranch. Here you will find a little kid crying. It seems that he lost Wooly, his sheep.
It seems that a few people witnessed this scene, so you need to go and question them. South of the ranch, you will find a group of two men and a group of two children near each other; speak to both of them to learn what happened to Wooly.

You will learn that there is a bandit camp just across the river, so make your way there. Kill all the bandits, and you will be able to see a sheep in the middle. Pick it up, summon your horse, and ride back to the ranch.

Willian says that this is actually not his sheep, Wooly, but he mentions that a Greymane already promised him to find the sheep.
Secrets Hidden In The Dark

Follow Willian to the mysterious Greymane he mentioned. You will find the man, Boris, very drunk and fighting two villagers. As Kliff approaches him, he asks you to follow him on your horse.

Boris will take you toward another bandit camp that is guarding a hidden cave. Defeat all the bandits and then head inside the cave.
You will notice that the cave is full of items, treasure, and cattle, but most importantly, there is another memory fragment that you need to inspect and play.

After you do that, go outside where a cutscene will play. All the villagers will come and pick up their belongings and cattle. Just after everyone is happy about getting their items back, you will see two guards speaking.

Approach them, and you will learn about the potential man behind all of this, the Hornsplitter, and something about a guild called the Gold Leaf Merchant. You will ask for information about their location.
The End Of Greed

Head to the Goldleaf Merchant Guild location marked on your map. Here, find the man called Shakatu. Kliff goes on blaming them for the chaos, but Shakatu seems to take it calmly. He will say that the true monster will be revealed soon.
His words do not make sense now, so you simply go along with it. Just nearby, you will hear a nun crying about, once again, bandits. They attacked and burned houses around Windland Heights, and one of the healers got stuck there.

Head to the objective marker on your map and approach the burning house. You will see two big trees blocking the path, and you have 120 seconds to rescue the man inside.
Use Nature’s Grasp to remove both trees and gain access to the house. Go inside, and to the right you will see a man on the ground; pick him up and carry him outside.

Everyone will be thankful for your help, but this is not over. It seems another person called Hubert, a healer, is missing.
For your next destination, you need to head to Hernand Highlands, which is west of your current location. Eventually, you will reach a small camp where you will find Hubert tied down while a few bandits guard him.

Kill the bandits and untie Hubert to rescue him. He will tell you that Shakatu was actually supposed to lead the guild, but instead the Hornsplitter took his position and caused all the chaos; Shakatu would never allow any of this to happen.
Rebellion Or Revolution

It seems that Shakatu is innocent, so head back to the camp. Here you will find a group of guards who will try to kill you, and you need to defend yourself.
As you defeat each one of them, Shakatu will come out of the shadows and stop the fight.

As you speak to Shakatu, you will learn that you need to stop the Hornsplitter because, once again, he confirms that he is the source of all this chaos.
Follow Shakatu to complete the conversation before you are headed toward the Hornsplitter to fight him.
Defeat The Hornsplitter

The Hornsplitter is a goblin boss fight that can move and attack quickly. If you do not pay attention, he can chip away a large portion of your health.
Aside from basic sword attacks, some slashes unleash a wave of energy that covers a wide area of the field, but you can either block it or dodge it.

If you are good with a perfect guard, that is a strong way to handle the fight because it will stun the boss and allow you to land several successful hits.
Triple Force Palm also works and can push him far away from you, giving you time to heal or regenerate stamina.

Overall, the fight is not difficult, and you should have enough healing items to use.
After you defeat the Hornsplitter, a cutscene will show Shakatu taking the crown and declaring himself the master of the guild. As your reward, you will be able to take the sword from the Hornsplitter and use it.

This will conclude the second chapter of the game!
