Crimson Desert – Chapter 6: Cracks In The Shield Walkthrough

Crimson Desert

After defeating Crowcaller in Crimson Desert, you receive a messenger sent by Marquis Serkis, who requests your presence at Hernand Castle to assist with an important matter.

Calphade is under attack by the Black Bears, the same rival enemy of Kliff, and news arrives that a Greymane was caught in the middle of it. You set out immediately to investigate.

Blazing Beacon

Head to Hernand Castle, and inside you will find Alan Serkis waiting for you at the entrance to the Duke’s chamber. Duke Charles acknowledges the efforts you have made for the people of Hernand.

Despite that, he still needs your help in Calphade, and to further intrigue you, there is a rumor about a Greymane wielding an axe who is fighting on Calphade’s side. It might be Oongka.

Not only do you need to go and check on the Greymane Oongka there, but you are also tasked with helping Calphade secure victory against the Black Bears.

Head to the Beacon location, where you will find a guide who will escort you into Calphade. You will meet him there and need to ride alongside him toward the city.

Along the way, the guide will notice a small camp where many of his comrades have fallen, prompting him to investigate.

As both of you examine the ambush site, you will be attacked by several Black Bear fighters, so defeat them all.

Continue your journey to Calphade, where you will find Marshal Middler waiting for you.

During the conversation, the Marshal explains the situation and tells you that you must fight through many Black Bears before you can even reach the Greymane.

Note
You need to be fully prepared, because throughout this entire chapter you will face a large amount of combat.

Before continuing the quest, make sure you carry plenty of healing items, upgrade your equipment, and prepare yourself properly for the battles ahead.

Go To The Battlefield

Marshal insists that you scout the area before throwing yourself in, so you need to follow the Calphadean soldier there.

Eventually, you will reach a stop where the soldier will ask you to raise the banner and put it back into its place. This will be a signal to the other soldiers to join the battle and fight.

Approach the banner and use Nature’s Grasp to pick it up, then take the stairs up and you will find its placement there.

Under The Banner Pike Again

Cradle Of Defense

Now, it is time to fight, and as soon as you step inside, you will encounter countless Black Bears fighting. You will actually have multiple objectives here to complete and not just kill the Black Bears aimlessly.

The first task that you need to focus on is raising the three banner pikes in three different locations: Siege Armory, Gunpowder Mill, and Thalwynd.

This works the same way the soldier showed you earlier, you need to find the banner, usually sitting nearby, and there will be an icon on the map that shows its location, then simply place it back into its position.

The problem is, there are many enemies, and while you can try to defeat all of them and consume plenty of healing, you can actually just rush to the banner and use Nature’s Grasp to pick it up.

Meanwhile, while you are holding the banner, time will slow down and you can easily avoid enemy attacks while carrying the banner to its position. The locations will be marked on your map, so complete that objective.

The Touch Of Deliverance

The second task requires you to head toward the Southern Guard Post, where you will find wounded soldiers. You need to go and bring them back to the camp so they can receive treatment.

Follow the directions he gives you to reach the wounded soldier, and as soon as you arrive, you will see the camp is full of Black Bears.

Defeat all of them, then pick up the wounded soldier at the far end of the camp.

Once you carry the soldier, call your horse and return to the Southern Guard Post. They will thank you for assisting them in this matter.

As a token of their gratitude, you will be able to restock on healing items and ammunition at certain points of interest around Calphade, which will be marked by a flag on your mini map.

Fire On The Frontlines

The third task requires you to go and destroy the wagon of supplies located inside a church building. As you make your way there, you will find it heavily guarded and need to defeat all the enemies present.

Afterward, go inside and the wagon will be in front of you. Use any method you prefer to destroy it, but for us, Force Palm worked quickly.

Just as you successfully destroy the wagon, a Calphadean defender will arrive at the location and inform you about the next steps of the defense.

Turning Tides

Fire Support

Attacking with swords or arrows alone is not enough to win this fight; you will need some heavy ranged options. This is why the Calphadeans have a gunsite where cannons provide support.

Make your way to the gunsite, and you will find that one cannon is damaged and needs to be restored. Kliff will ask the soldier to lift the barrel as he tries to put the wheel back on, and it seems to work.

Here, you will get a tutorial on how to use the cannon yourself, and you need to use it to destroy four smoking watchtowers. You can easily spot them because they are watchtowers with smoke rising from them.

All you need to do is aim the cannon at each one and fire, repeating this four times to complete the step. Afterward, you will be given some whistling arrows.

These unique arrows are extremely helpful, as using them allows you to request fire support on the designated area where the arrow lands.

To use them, simply switch the arrow type from the quick wheel and aim at the location where you want the fire support to strike.

In Ashes

It’s not over yet, but we are making good progress. There is another Black Bears outpost that you need to infiltrate. They have captives there, and you need to rescue them.

Simply make your way there and defeat all the enemies, then you will trigger a cutscene showing the rescue of all the captives. However, that is not all.

Hidden Fangs

As soon as you do that, another soldier will arrive and mention that the Black Bears are not using people to fight; they have special war machines and are using them to breach their defenses.

You need to destroy these war machines, which look like round tanks that fire cannons. These special units cannot be destroyed by your regular attacks, and the only way to destroy them is by using the whistling arrows.

If you need more whistling arrows, you can visit any friendly camp marked with a flag icon, and you will be resupplied.

There are five war machines in total: three in the middle and two to the south. You can easily spot them by using triple Force Palm and floating with your wings.

After you destroy every war machine, you will notice the enemy retreating to their main fort, Calphade Castle. That is where you need to head next to finish this once and for all.

The Undying Shields

Head toward Calphade Castle. As soon as you enter, you will notice Oongka fighting the Black Bears. Kliff rushes to help him deal with the enemy.

Oongka can handle himself and urges you to go deeper into the castle to deal with the traitor who helped the Black Bears attack Calphade.

Venture further inside the castle, and you will find Stefan Lanford also fighting the Black Bears. Help him defeat the enemies he is facing, then proceed deeper into the castle where a soldier will be waiting for you.

Defeat Cassius Morten

Cassius Morten is an easy boss fight with only one health bar, but unlike other boss fights, he uses a shield to block attacks. This means he will block many of your strikes before you can land a few hits.

He employs a series of basic mace swing combos that you can block as well. That is essentially his entire attack pattern.

After you defeat Cassius Morten, you will win the fight and need to head outside to inform Marquis Lanford of the news.

This will finally free Calphade, and the Black Bears will retreat.

Light the Beacon

To celebrate this victory, you will be directed to follow a soldier to light the beacon.

Make your way to the structure and take the stairs up. Aim an arrow at one of the torches to set it on fire and ignite the beacon.

Return Home

It is time to head back to camp and speak with your comrade. Rest and enjoy a warm meal after a long day of fighting. This concludes Chapter 6.
