Welcome to the Into Indie Games Part 3 walkthrough of Dead Weight.
Dead Weight is a turn-based RPG featuring roguelite mechanics. You do not lose everything after you die or enter the Abyss because there are permanent upgrades that carry over. You have to explore the skies and discover specific islands to complete quests. For more information about the game, head over to its Steam page.
Part 1 and Part 2 are already live on the website, covering how to get started, how to find the Volcanic Island, and how to defeat Aluza. In this Part 3 walkthrough of Dead Weight, we will progress through the Munar-Degher quest.
Disclaimer
In Dead Weight. islands, loot, events, and enemy encounters are procedurally generated in each run, so your experience may differ from ours. You may not encounter the same events, enemies, or loot in the same order, and some things may not appear at all. That said, after completing numerous runs and spending several hours with the game, we’ve found that many important locations, encounters, and mechanics remain consistent across playthroughs. While the placement and order of certain things can change, the overall progression is similar enough for this walkthrough to serve as a reliable guide. Use this walkthrough as a reference rather than a step-by-step guide, as the game’s randomized nature means your playthrough will likely differ from ours.

Dead Weight Walkthrough – Exploring From Scratch

After defeating Aluza, you will visit the Abyss, but you will not die. Instead, the Abyss itself will call you there. Once you have gone there, the map will reset, and of course, a new building, the Temple, will have been unlocked.
Now, you have to explore from scratch, which is not a bad thing. That said, do notice that you now have a new quest, Munar-Degher. In this quest, the objective is to find Munar-Degher’s Island and uncover his plot.
From this point onward, the difficulty of the islands is going to increase. The first islands that were not covered by the fog for us were the ones with events. We headed south to the nearest event island, and to the left of that island was a three-star difficulty island.
The event island featured an altar that gives you three different options. You can either receive 25 Favor of the Ancients, 250 gold, or fly away. We chose the second option and took the money. After taking the gold, rocks will fall onto your ship. So, you can either use resources to repair the damage or protect the ship, but doing so will add fatigue.
We chose the last option, but it was worth it because we received a lot of money.
Head Back To The Town
Since we had gained a lot of money, we decided to head back to the town and spend it. That is because using the money to improve your chances of survival is a much better investment. Head to the tavern and buy the Cannoneer, then head to the market and purchase something useful.
You can then spend some money at the Temple and restore the altars so you can benefit from their effects. After that, if the three-star island is near you, head there because it is time for another fight.
Raiding The Three-Star Island

This time, you are not going to fight goblins because this island features human enemies instead. Upon attacking the Skilled Gunner, he immediately counterattacked, and we lost two health points. Due to that, the same strategy may not work here.
That is why having a Cook on your team is highly important because they can restore the health of your hero. We used the Cook to heal, then used the Cannoneer to deal damage to another enemy while leaving one of them alone.
The main strategy is still to focus on avoiding unnecessary damage, and that is not going to change. We took our time and eventually defeated all of them without taking any further damage.
Bee War Event Island

North of that, we found another event island where tasting the honey from the tree rewarded us with 50 Favor of the Ancients. After that, there was nowhere else for us to go, so we ran out of fuel. So, drifting was necessary, and it caused us to gain 29 Madness.
So, you cannot drift around blindly anymore because there are going to be consequences. That said, it carried us straight to another three-star island, so it was time for another fight.
There were four enemies along with one tentacle-type monster that stayed in one place but was still very dangerous. As soon as we entered the island, our Cook was immobilized and became the target, meaning he was going to get hit on the next turn.
The best option in this situation is to use your hero to push that character forward so they can move out of the attack radius. The best play here is to use Explosive Fury of Arn to eliminate the tentacle monster in a single hit, then focus your attention on the remaining enemies.
By the time the tentacle monster was down, you could use the Cannoneer to take out another enemy with ease.
From this fight, we earned a lot of experience, gold, and a School Uniform, which grants 25 percent more experience from all sources.
Finding Fuel Barrels
North of that was another event island that featured an abandoned mine. We went there and sacrificed one Durability and one Agility in exchange for three fuel barrels because they are extremely important now.
After that, we headed to the Wandering Tavern, which was just a little northeast of the town, and selected the Stay The Night option because it completely heals your party. It does not reduce Madness, but you can lower that at the Temple.
However, you need to restore that specific altar before you can reduce Madness, so keep that in mind.
Head Back To The Town

The best option now is to head back to the town, restore the altar in the middle of the Temple, and then travel toward the southwest side of the map. We found quite a few islands there, so we decided that exploring that area would be a better idea.
Once you reach the three-star island, your priority should be defeating the tentacle first if it is positioned in the middle. However, if it is standing in the corner and can only attack in one direction, then there is no need to worry.
It will also damage the pirates, and you simply have to avoid standing within its attack range. You do not even have to defeat the tentacle because the pirates are your only required opponents. The spear-wielding enemy can be troublesome, so try to eliminate him as early as possible.
Continue Exploring

Just south of that island, we found a four-star difficulty island, and the maximum difficulty is five. So, if you encounter the same island, it is going to be a difficult battle. One of the enemies, the Brute, had seven health points, and he hits like a tank. He has a dash ability that lets him cover a few tiles, and upon hitting you, he inflicts significant damage.
The others may not be that different from the enemies you have fought before. That is because some of them will be hitting you straight away, while others will be using AoE attacks. There is also going to be the Tentacle Monster in this fight, and it can even spawn on the other side of the island.
So, when that happens, you will have to be careful and avoid getting attacked by it as well. However, do note that you do not have to defeat it to win the fight. Simply avoid its attacks, and if you are lucky, your enemies will take damage instead of you.
Also, in this fight, there is going to be a healer, so make sure you take care of them first. That is because they can heal the Brute, and it becomes a drag having to deal all of that damage again. Apparently, if you get counterattacked while you are standing near the edge of the island, you will fall off.
So, that is another thing to worry about. That is exactly what happened to us, and we had to start the journey from the Abyss all over again.
Starting Over From The Abyss
As we had to start from the beginning, there were no checkpoints. What we did was fight some goblins, collect money, gather everything again, and eventually managed to find the Volcanic Island. Then, we bested Aluza in combat again, and this time we did not bother fighting the minions.
Instead, we went straight for Aluza, and the fight was over way too quickly. So, if you have to fight her again, make sure to use this tactic. That said, the difficult part comes next.
Exploring Using The Lighthouse From The Beginning
You need to start exploring the map using the lighthouse right from the beginning. Use the lighthouse and explore as much as you can. We headed to the west side of the map after exploring and eventually found the next island.
Finding Munar-Degher’s Island

Your next main objective is to find Munar-Degher’s Island, and it will feature the same experience as finding the Volcanic Island. You need to explore and manage your fuel consistently. There are going to be a lot of enemies to fight. However, make sure not to clear every island along the way.
We did not clear all of the islands, and that worked in our favor quite a lot. That is because once you find Munar-Degher’s Island, you may not be in the best condition to continue.
Preparing For The Fight
We spent quite some time searching for the island, and during that journey we lost both of our side characters. So, we had to recruit two more mercenaries before fighting whatever came next, and we traveled back to the town using the islands that were still left unexplored.
Otherwise, it would not have been possible to get there without wasting resources and potentially gaining more Madness. Once you reach the town, make sure you remove the Madness completely. Then, hire two mercenaries and spend your money in the tavern as well as the market.
If you still have spare money, then spend it in the temple or at the lighthouse to upgrade either the lighthouse or the telescope. Once you are ready, head back to Munar-Degher’s Island, because it is finally time to land on the island.
As you land on the island, you will have a conversation with Munar-Degher, and he will introduce you to the Abyssal Whale, his latest project. That is going to be your next opponent.
Note: Before the fight, make sure you have ranged weapons equipped. It can be the Throwing Spear, which literally covers almost the entire island, or it can be another ranged weapon of your choice. However, ranged weapons are important because they will help you a lot in the fight that comes immediately after defeating the Abyssal Whale.
Defeating The Abyssal Whale

Now this is a boss fight, so it is going to be very different from the normal encounters you have had so far. What you need to do is destroy the Capsules. Three of them are going to be close to you, and for now the boss will be targeting the left side of the island.
Using your three characters, damage whichever Capsule you can, and then end your turn. On the next turn, the boss will unleash several explosive attacks, and a few Demolition Beetles will be left near you. These are essentially traps, and they will explode when you step on them.
They remove two of your health points. However, you can destroy them before they become a problem. That said, make sure to move out of the boss’s explosion range whenever possible.

It was quite difficult to avoid taking a single hit during this fight because the explosions leave behind Fire Fields. The Fire Field deals damage as well, and not just once. It damages you when you step on it, and then again as soon as the enemy’s turn begins when another explosion is triggered.
That said, even after sacrificing two mercenaries, this fight was fairly straightforward and did not require complicated strategies. Simply try to stay out of the explosive radius, especially while playing as Arn. Also, make sure Arn has at least seven health points, as that should be easy to achieve by this point.
Defeating Munar-Degher

After you have defeated the Abyssal Whale, it will be time to defeat Munar-Degher. Fighting him is going to be much tougher because he is still using the Whale and remains out of range of your melee attacks. You still have to damage the exposed part of the Whale, but doing so can be difficult.
We managed to defeat Munar-Degher with only Arn still standing, but it was an extremely close fight. Staying inside the explosion radius was a gamble, and it almost did not pay off because we lost four health points almost instantly. That said, we also managed to deal a significant amount of damage, which made the risk somewhat worthwhile.
What you need to do is wait for the Fire Field to disappear and then move closer to Munar-Degher. Once you have done that, you will finally be able to deal some real damage. Use Explosive Fury and follow it up with a normal Plunge Attack to deal massive damage.

Then, if you have to retreat back to your previous tile, do so. Taking unnecessary damage simply is not worth the risk. Once you are back in a safe position, continue using your ranged attacks as well. The Throwing Spear helped us a lot during this fight. Using this tactic, you should be able to claim victory without too much trouble.
Note: We do not know if this was intended or not, but Munar-Degher accidentally created a Fire Field underneath himself. That caused him to take damage over several turns, and it helped us a lot during this fight. Even without that, we still would have been victorious thanks to Explosive Fury, but it is still an interesting detail that is worth mentioning.
Aftermath Of Defeating Munar-Degher
After you have defeated Munar-Degher, you will be called back into the Abyss, where you will have a conversation with the Ancient God. After that, a pop-up will appear, revealing that a new hero has been unlocked. Continue the journey, and the Tech Tower will now become available.
You can buy some useful items from the Tech Tower that you would normally find by defeating enemies. These items can come in handy in battle. Now, only the last journey remains, and you have to prepare for the final battle and attack the Kraken. However, we have prepared you enough, so this is going to be the last walkthrough of Dead Weight, and it concludes here.
You can continue your adventure and defeat the Kraken in the same manner. Good luck!
