Directive 8020 is a choice-based interactive drama and survival horror game developed and published by Supermassive Games. As Earth is dying and has become uninhabitable for humans, the game takes place on Tau Ceti f, which offers a small glimmer of hope for humanity. For more information, head over to its Steam page.

Since this is a choice-based survival horror game, there are going to be many decisions that come with consequences. So, to help you have a better experience with Directive 8020, here we will provide you with a walkthrough of the first two chapters.

As you start Episode 1, Little Star in Directive 8020, a cutscene will begin, and the first thing you will have to do is make a decision. The game will tell you that it is a turning point, so you will need to choose carefully. You will have two options: you can either agree with Simms and speak to the computer, or dismiss the idea and fix it yourself.

You can choose either option since the game has just started, so the outcome will not affect the story too heavily. I went with dismissing it because going down to the root of the problem seemed like the better option.

Leave Crew Quarters

After selecting an option, you will get the objective of leaving the crew quarters. Move ahead a little and talk to Simms. She is a little confused about the situation, so you will once again have to choose between two options. Pressuring her here does not seem like the right approach, so go with the Check In option.

Find Your Utility Strap

You will not be able to move ahead because you need your utility strap, so head to the marker to retrieve it. Then a tutorial will appear for you to test the utility strap.

Open The Door With The Utility Strap

After completing the tutorial, move forward and open the door. Once you have done that, all of the current objectives will be completed, and a short cutscene will begin. You will need to repeatedly press the button that appears on the screen in order to open the door.

Investigate The Hull Breach

When the cutscene ends, head into the Medical Reception area and interact with the door, but it will not unlock. You will then be introduced to a new mechanic called the scanner, which you can use to scan the area.

Reroute Power To Medical

You now have to reroute the power to Medical, and that can be done through the terminal. Scan the area and follow the red wire, as it will lead you to the terminal. Then lift the lockdown, and the door to the Medical Reception will unlock. After that, head to the breached area and interact with the door to trigger another short cutscene.

After the cutscene, you will have to find the breach using the camera system. You will discover it through the final camera feed.

Seal The Hull Breach

Use the terminal to check where the breach is during episode 1: Little star in Directive 8020.

After locating the breach, you will need to seal it. Move ahead, cross the small bridge, and interact with the terminal on the left before heading toward the breach itself. After that, climb down the ladder by interacting with it. Once you get close to the breach, another cutscene will begin.

With that, the objective will be completed. Then you will have to choose between two options: Worry (things are going to change) and Wish (and the start of a new one). I went with the former option. After that, more dialogue choices will appear, and I chose Compliment.

With that, a character destiny will be unlocked. Then, during the cutscene, Simms will be blown off the ship, so as she comes back toward you, you will need to catch her by mashing the button that appears on the screen. That said, you can also choose not to save her and let her die during the disaster.

Different Outcome

The alternate outcome appears when you do not save Simms, and she dies. Then a cutscene will begin, and you will have to investigate a disturbance.

Investigate The Disturbance

As you move toward the marked location, you will notice Simms standing ahead. Choose to run, and the rest of the objectives will mostly remain the same as below, except for finding Simms.

Find Simms

During the cutscenes, as you are talking to Simms, she will suddenly disappear, so now you have to find her. Head down the path ahead. As you get close to Simms, you will be given two dialogue options. Both of them will unlock a different trait for Carter.

I went with Empathize.

Run!

simms in Directive 8020 episode 1: little star.

Since Simms is acting weird now, you need to run away. Retrace your steps and, as you exit through the door, it will close behind you. Simms will then appear from the Atrium.

Sneak Past Simms

You now have to sneak past Simms while remaining crouched. You can stay hidden behind various objects, so when she is facing toward the left side, move up the stairs and enter from the right side. As you continue ahead toward the quest marker, Simms will appear there as well, so stay hidden.

There are plenty of places to hide behind, so remain concealed until she walks away. You can also leave the area and then come back if needed. Head through the open door, go down the stairs, and hide behind the object on the right side. Wait for her to move away and then head right to hide behind the nearby objects.

Wait for Simms to pass by you and, once she does, head up the stairs and move right. With that, the objective will change.

Escape To Carter’s Room

You now have to enter Carter’s room. Head straight ahead and interact with the door. Repeatedly press the key that appears on the screen to force the door open. Then a cutscene will begin, and Episode 1, Little Star in Directive 8020, will come to an end.

Directive 8020 – Episode 2: Best Laid Plans Walkthrough

Beginning of episode 2: best laid plans in Directive 8020.

As Episode 2, Best Laid Plans in Directive 8020 begins, a cutscene will start. Then you will get to choose between two options. You can either contemplate or ask a question. I went with the latter, and when the conversation ends, you will be back in the present day.

After the cutscene, you will once again get to choose between two options. I went with the inquire option.

Speak With Stafford

Your next objective will be to speak with Stafford, so head over to him and interact to begin a conversation. Stafford will then speak with Simms, who appears to have disposed of Carter. When the conversation is over, you will receive a new objective.

Check On Mitchell

Follow Stafford to check on Mitchell. Once Stafford is done talking, interact with Mitchell. Mitchell and Stafford will then group up for a task, so you will now be playing as the latter. After a short while, you will get to choose between two options. I went with the assertion.

Mitchell will then ask about your thoughts on Landers, and you can either choose the trust or doubt option. You can go with either choice, and then the POV will shift to the other group.

Power Up the Reactor

Now you will be playing as Young, and you need to power up the reactor. You can see the message from Mitchell asking you to restore the lights. Head to the quest marker and interact with the reactor. The Oracle will suggest redirecting power from the fire control system, so choose the option on the right.

The group will then get together, and you will have to choose an option as Stafford after Eisele raises suspicion about Simms and Carter. I went with the accept option since Simms potentially killed Carter. After a cutscene, you will have to choose an option as Young. Choose whichever you want, but I went with the joke option.

You will then look through the footage of what Carter and Simms did. Stafford will appear, and you can either raise your suspicions with him by accusing or questioning. I went with the question option, and then you will get to choose between two more options.

Go with the contemplate option, and then you will begin playing as Eisele.

Search Crew Quarters

As Leslie, you will have to explore the crew quarters, and the first area you need to search is the Upper Atrium.

Search The Upper Atrium

The keycode to Carter’s PC can be found in the calendar during episode 2: Best Laid Plans in Directive 8020.

Head right to go upstairs and then head left. From there, continue ahead from the left side and interact with the panel. It appears there is no power in the area, so you will not be able to enter from either the right or left side. Head toward the other quest marker instead, and to reach it, you will need to go down the stairs and head left.

Continue following the path ahead and enter the Crew Complex. As you move forward, you will get a pop-up about new conversations, so you can open your messages and talk to everyone. Everyone will reply except Simms, so once you are done with that, continue ahead and enter the Crew Quarters.

As you enter, a short cutscene will begin. When it ends, head straight and enter the Monitoring Crew room. You will have new conversations available, so you can open the messages. After that, head inside the room on the right and interact with the PC.

Find The Keycode To Carter’s PC

You now have to find the keycode to Carter’s PC. The hint is located at the right corner of the PC, and the keycode itself can be found outside the room on the right side in the calendar. It is Luna’s birthday, so if you still cannot figure it out, the code is 2808 since her birthday is on the 28th of August, which is the eighth month of the year.

After entering the correct code, interact with the PC again. A short cutscene will then begin, and afterward, you will need to follow Simms.

Follow Simms

following simms in Directive 8020 episode 2: best laid plans

Now you simply have to follow Simms, so continue ahead, and a short cutscene will begin. After that, you will receive a new objective.

Remain Undetected

At first, Simms will come from the left side, so head right and hide there while staying crouched. Then, when she comes from the right side, simply move left while crouching, and afterward, you will need to follow her again while remaining undetected.

Continue following her while staying crouched, and you should be fine. Once she is done interacting with the terminal and leaves, you will get a new objective.

Investigate The Terminal

Head to the terminal and restore the power. After doing that, you will receive the objective of following Simms once again.

Follow Simms

You can now stand up and run to the next quest marker. As you reach the door, a cutscene will begin. You will then get to choose between two options. You can either demand that she open the door or appeal to her. I went with the former, and then you will be introduced to a new mechanic.

You will now need to make several choices before the timer runs out. You can either plead or threaten. I went with plead, but you can select either option since the result will remain the same. Then another cutscene will begin, and you will receive a new objective.

Escape Through The Vent

The vent will be directly ahead, so climb through it while Mitchell closes the airlock in the meantime. Continue moving through the vent and then head up the stairs. After that, go through another vent, and the objective will be completed.

Find Simms

You now have to find Simms, so follow the quest marker. As you get close to it, a cutscene will begin. With that, Episode 2: Best Laid Plans in Directive 8020 will come to an end.
