Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined – Walkthrough Part 16: Buccanham’s Curse

Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined Walkthrough

In Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, you play the role of young adventurers who travel to the past to restore islands in the present. Each of these islands has gone through a problem, and you’ll have to solve that problem to get rid of the Demon King’s influence on them and make their islands appear in the present oceans. For more information on the game, don’t forget to visit its official Steam page here.

The Buccanham region is likely the last one to be unlocked from the pedestals inside the Shrine of Mysteries. After completing Buccanham, only one pedestal will remain inside the shrine, and that’s the left-most grey pedestal, but for that stone fragment, you’ll have to collect a lot of Mini-Medals.

Buccanham Palace

As you arrive in the Buccanham region, take the path leading to the west. You’ll arrive at Buccanham Palace. When you approach the gate, the guard will tell you to be warned, as the place is cursed, and tonight is the full moon.

Make your way to the throne room. However, as you approach the gates, you’ll hear a scream. A newborn baby has turned into a monster and run away.

You’ll then have to head to the Throne Room to talk with the king. King Buccanham will tell you more about the curse of Buccanham.

Every infant born in the Buccanham region turns into a monster on the first night of the full moon. They travel in the dark towards the beacon and disappear.

The King also tells you about the Sea Dragon, a ship led by the pirate Sharkeye. He tried to fight off against the monsters, but even he was unable to completely lift the curse, and now his ship lies frozen.

The Memories

The king then asks you to go to the second floor of the area to spend the night. As you go there, you’ll find that a maid is still preparing the bed, and she asks you to wait on the balcony.

Head to the floor below and go to the balcony. Here, you’ll find a man claiming that he used to be the minstrel of the king. He tells you the story of Sharkeye, Annais, who was Sharkeye’s wife, and the king of Buccanham.

Once the story ends, you can return to your room. However, you’ll find that Annais has woken up. She’s a little sick, and she talks to you for a bit before heading back to rest. You can then go to the room with beds to sleep.

The next morning, the king will summon you. They’ll reveal the plan to gather glowmoss. They want to cover the feet of the monsters in glowmoss and follow their trail as they head off to the darkness.

However, you’ll have to go to the dwarves to get the glowmoss, and they don’t want to be bothered by humans.

The Dwarves Of Buccanham

Exit the palace, and you can head to the cave towards the northwest. The cave is called Dinky Dell. As you approach, you’ll find the dwarves hiding as soon as they see you. Go to the door near the fireplace.

You’ll find the elder dwarf, the Foreman, sitting at the table. The Foreman says that you’re free to go deeper into the cave and get the glowmoss, but for that, you’ll have to deal with the monster inhabiting it.

Head deeper into the cave, and you’ll find the monster on Level 3 of the cave. Mossferatu will fight against you, alongside the toads.

These monsters often cast breath attacks, so you can cast a magic barrier to decrease the damage. You can also cast the spell that reflects breath attacks. Furthermore, use attacks that attack multiple enemies, and you’ll be able to come out victorious.

Once you’ve defeated Mossferatu, you’ll be able to get the glowmoss. If you talk to the Foreman, he’ll ask you to defeat the monsters in the tower, and he’ll let you have his treasures, which include a stone fragment.

King Buccanham’s Plan

Return to the Buccanham Palace, and you’ll find another child has turned into a monster. You’ll be able to apply glowmoss on its feet successfully.

The guards take you to meet the king, and the night will pass. The next day, the king will congratulate you. He then asks you to extinguish the black flame in the beacon near the palace.

However, you’ll need water from the Rainbow Cove to extinguish those black flames. You’d remember Uncle Pike in Estard made you bottle the water from the Rainbow Cove, which was something that you used to extinguish the black flames in Emberdale.

Now, you have to return to the present and get some more water from the Rainbow Cove. Return to Estard in the present, and head straight for the Rainbow Cove. You’ll be able to collect the water from the cove, and you will obtain the Prism Dew.

Towards The Beacon

Once you’ve obtained the Prism Dew, return to Buccanham in the past. Make your way to the Beacon towards the north of the region. The guards will let you pass on the orders of the King.

It’s dark inside the Beacon, but you’ll be able to see the footprints with ease. Keep following the footprints, and you’ll be on the right track.

Once you’re at the top level, you’ll be able to use the Prism Dew to extinguish the black flame. It will open a portal, leading you to the other world.

Togrus Maximus

In this other world, you’ll find Togrus Maximus, a pawn of the Demon King. The children who had turned into monsters are also here.

You’ll then have to fight against Togrus Maximus. This boss is weak to fire, and usually uses physical attacks that can inflict various status effects.

As soon as Togrus gets fired up, his attack power will increase drastically. You’ll have to watch out because a critical hit can knock your characters out if they aren’t healed properly or if you’re underleveled.

Once Togrus Maximus is defeated, the curse on the land will be lifted, and the monsters will turn back into humans. Furthermore, he’ll also drop a black fragment.

The guards will then come and take a small portion of the fire from the beacon and return to the king with you.

Famed Return

As you arrive in Buccanham Palace, you’re treated as heroes by the residents. They’ll lead you to the King. However, an old man appears, who claims to have taken Annais, Sharkeye’s wife, to his kingdom under the sea.

He says that he has given her eternal life by turning her into a mermaid, so that she can see her husband again once he is unfrozen. This was all her choice. After delivering the news, this old man disappears.

The king will then go on and light the fire in the castle. As a reward, the king will give you the Serpent Blade. You can then also return to the Foreman in the Dwarves’ cave to get the stone fragment.

Note that there’s another stone fragment in Buccanham, but the path to it is blocked by a shelf. You have to interact with the shelf repeatedly to move it.

The Present

If you return to the present, you’ll find out that the dwarves’ cave is the new Buccanham Palace. The old Buccanham Palace has been turned into an arena, and now humans and dwarves live peacefully with each other.

You can also take part in the arena for some extra rewards, or head to the next stop of your journey from here.
