Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined – Walkthrough Part 2: The Village Of Ballymolloy

Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined Walkthrough

Dragon Quest 7 is about a group of friends looking for adventure on an isolated island. Their search for adventure leads them to the shrine of mysteries, where they have to gather strange stone fragments of tablets that they have to place on certain pedestals. Each of your adventures here is full of challenges, and you’ll have to overcome many obstacles to progress ahead in this strange but interesting world. For more information on the game, don’t forget to check out its official Steam page here.

A Strange Place

After placing the yellow tablet fragments on the pedestal, you’ll be suddenly transported to a new area with Kiefer and Maribel.

Shortly after, Maribel gets mad and wants to return home immediately, so she leaves you and Kiefer behind, thinking that she’s still on Estard Island. But the dark clouds above are a sign of something ominous going on around here.

However, as you try to find your way around, you’ll hear a cry for help as Maribel is attacked by a group of monsters. Some slimes have attacked Maribel. Defeat the slimes quickly, and you’ll be able to progress ahead.

After the battle, Kiefer is excited that they’ve finally gotten a chance to fight against real monsters and is happy for the adventure. However, Maribel feels the opposite and wants to go home quickly.

Maeve

As you try to leave the area, you’ll shortly encounter Maeve, who’s tending to the two graves. She places grass over the graves due to the lack of flowers.

However, after a short conversation with you and your friends, Maribel will hand over a pouch of flower seeds to Maeve, and she’ll plant those around the graves.

The trio also tells Maeve that they’re from Estard Island and want to go home, but Maeve doesn’t seem to know much about it. However, she agrees to help you out a little by escorting you to a nearby village.

Once you return to the open world after exiting the area, you’ll find yourself on an entirely new island. There are plenty of monsters here, and some of them are quite strong. You can still choose to fight against them, as Maeve is with you and will help you out during battles, so you can level up quickly.

The Miserable Village Of Ballymolloy

As soon as you enter the village, Maeve will leave without a goodbye. The village is in a state of despair. As you explore around, you’ll find villagers trying to disassemble their own houses plank by plank.

Furthermore, there are only men around here. All the women have been taken hostage by the monsters, and they’ve asked the villagers to destroy the village with their own hands to get the women back.

You’ll also find out about the history of the village’s cowardice. There was once a man called Molloy who went to fight against the monsters after rallying the residents to follow behind him. The residents agreed, but when Molloy went to actually fight, none of the villagers showed up, and he passed on the battlefield alone.

The villagers then named their village after him in his remembrance. However, the people here are still not willing to fight against the monsters.

Patrick And His Father

Some of the houses in the village are still intact, including the inn and the equipment shop. There’s also another house that’s still intact, and that’s towards the north of the village. You’ll have to go around the river to get to it.

There’s a little boy named Patrick here who’s tending to his injured father, Hanlon. Hanlon went to fight the monsters to bring the village’s women back, but was defeated and now requires a green gem to be healed.

Patrick asks if you’ve seen Maeve, so he could ask her to find and bring a green gem back to cure his father. Kiefer then asks you if you’d like to help find the green gem for Patrick.

Maribel also agrees, and now, you’ll have to find the green gem. It can be found in the rainbow mines, which are in the mountains towards the east.

Rainbow Mines

Before you head into the Rainbow Mines, you’ll notice a strangely menacing monster towards the edge of the path, and it’s also wielding a hammer. This enemy is quite strong, and you won’t be able to defeat it right now, so it’s best to just leave it be for now.

Enter the mountains, and you’ll find a statue here. These statues can be used to heal yourself and save your progress. You can also enter the Rainbow Mines from here.

Rainbow Mines is full of tougher enemies, so be careful here. If you lose too much HP and MP, you can always exit the area and heal yourself at the statue.

As you head in a little deeper on the first level, you’ll find Maeve. You and your friends will tell Maeve about your situation, and Maeve politely declines to help. However, after a few more words from Kiefer and the rest, she finally agreed to join you.

Now, you have to make your way to the deepest part of the Rainbow Mines. However, some levels offer strange puzzles where you have to strike the same colored rainbow stones to make them disappear.

Rainbow Mines – Level 2 Puzzle

In the Level 2 area of the Rainbow Mines, you’ll find two blue and two red rainbow balls. First, push the red rainbow ball down, and it will clear the path for the blue rainbow ball.

Next, you’ll have to push the blue rainbow ball forward, and that will cause the wooden bridge to fall into place, and you’ll be able to progress ahead.

Rainbow Mines – Level 4 Puzzle

The second puzzle is in the Level 4 area of the Rainbow Mines. Here, you’ll see many rainbow crystals. However, if you make one wrong move here, you’ll have to reset it and try again.

You can reset the puzzle by selecting the corresponding button to “Start over” that you can see in the top-right corner of the screen.

To solve this puzzle, you’ll first have to push the red crystal in the middle. It will crash onto the other red crystal above the wooden plank, causing the blue crystal to fall to the lower area and crash onto the other blue crystal there.

Now, you need to push the red crystal on the right. This will lead the pushed red crystal to collide with the other red crystal on the plank.

The plank will get disbalanced, and a big chunk of rock will fall in the middle of the broken bride leading to the final red crystal below.

After that, you have to head to the left and push the red crystal there bring the bridge into its place, allowing you to move deeper into the mines.

The Green Gem

The green gem is on Level 5 of the Rainbow Mines. The immediate path to it is blocked by two red crystals, but you’ll have to walk all the way around it to enter the area from the other side.

As you interact with the crystal, Maeve will use some magic on it, causing a piece of it to break from the deposit. She’ll then give you the Green Gem.

You’ll then leave the Rainbow Mines. As you’re about to leave the area, Maeve will stop you, asking you why you chose to help Patrick. Maeve then tells you the story of Molloy and why she dislikes the village people due to their cowardice.

Maeve gives you a wooden doll as a parting gift. She says it was given to her by her brother around 20 years ago. You can then return to the village to give the green gem to Patrick.

Rallying The Town

As you return, you’ll have to head straight for Patrick’s house to give him the green gem. Kiefer also tells Patrick about how Maeve helped them find the green gem for him.

The trio will then head to the inn to spend the night. Maribel is still worried about never finding a way back home again. But somehow, the trio finds a way to rest peacefully. However, at night, you’ll see a dream, or a flashback from the past, where you see Molloy handing the wooden doll to his little sister, Maeve.

The next morning, you’ll be greeted by Hanlon, Patrick’s father. He’s all good now. However, Hanlon asks you if you’d be willing to fight the monsters in the tower for the village. He promises that he’d be willing to rally the villagers for you, and they’ll be following shortly.

Patrick is a little disappointed, and he mentions how the villagers left Hanlon all alone when he went to retrieve the women the monsters had been holding hostage. Kiefer asks you if there’s any way you can help Patrick get his courage back.

You can then choose to give Patrick Maeve’s wooden doll. This will give courage to Patrick, and he’d be willing to rally the villagers alongside his dad while the trio heads to the tower to fight against the monsters.

The tower has quite a few strong monsters, so it’s best to head over to the shop and get better equipment for the characters using the gold that you acquired after your venture in the Rainbow Mines. You should at least be level 5 now, so you can also fight against the menacing monster near the Rainbow Mines.

Vicious Hammerhood

The Vicious Hammerhood is one of the strongest enemies that you would encounter so far in the game. While this enemy has a high miss rate, if it hits, it does a ton of damage, and may knock one of your characters out if you’re underlevelled or if you don’t have proper equipment.

It’s recommended to be at least level 5 before you face Vicious Hammerhood. Your primary strategy will revolve around healing Maribel and Kiefer with your heal while you have them cast damaging attacks.

Vicious Hammerhood is weak to fire attacks, so keep using Frizz with Maribel and Flame Slash with Kiefer. You can also let loose with your character and have it cast Ocean’s Devotion, which nullifies one attack on each character for a few turns.

Keep this up, and you’ll be able to defeat Vicious Hammerhood, which will then drop Hammerhood Heart. You can then equip the Hammerhood Heart to any of your characters from the equipment menu. However, the item’s ability to give consistent critical hits often works extremely well on Kiefer.

The Tower

The Tower is towards the west on the Ballymolloy Island. As you enter, you’ll find a statue to heal and save here. There’s also a gate, as well as another one upstairs, but that is being guarded by a Golem.

If you go in through the gate at the bottom, you won’t find anything, but it is a decent place to level up because you can always easily head out to heal at the statue until you’re comfortable enough to beat the Golem.

Golem

Once you’re ready, go and interact with the Golem upstairs. The Golem is quite strong and hits hard. Fire attacks don’t do a lot of damage, but you can still fight against the Golem if you let everyone let loose.

Prince Kiefer’s Royal Flush ability is quite useful here. Just use the ability, cast Ocean’s Devotion with your main character, and let Kiefer use regular attacks on the Golem.

Maribel should keep using Frizz, even if it doesn’t do a lot of damage. You can also cast Dazzle with Maribel on the Golem, but keep going, and you’ll be able to come out victorious.

You’ll get a Green Fragment as a reward for defeating the Golem. You can then head inside the Tower.

Exploring The Tower

The Tower is like a maze, and you’ll encounter plenty of challenging enemies here. From the entrance upstairs, take the stairs leading to the Level 2 area, and then another set of stairs leading back to Level 1 of the Tower.

You’ll find a chest and two stairs, one on the left and the other on the right. The right stairs lead you to a chest, while the left stairs lead you much deeper into the Tower.

If you take the stairs on the left, you’ll shortly arrive on Level 4 of the Tower. You’ll be able to see a monster in the middle of the room, but the path to it is blocked right now. Take the stairs in the area to arrive on Level 5.

As you enter Level 5, move to the right, and you’ll find a set of stairs leading back to Level 4 of the Tower. Head straight north from here, and you’ll find the stairs leading back to Level 5.

You’ll spot a statue in the middle of the Level, but it is inaccessible right now. Take the stairs leading to Level 6 from here. Level 6 looks a lot like a maze, but there’s only one staircase leading down, and that will lead you back to Level 5, near the statue.

You’ll find a red stone fragment here, as well as a chest. The chest contains the Golem’s Heart, and it allows you to withstand attacks that would’ve knocked your characters out. You can save your game at the statue here and heal yourself before heading downstairs for the boss battle.

The Crabble-Rouser And A Familiar Face

In the middle of the room, you’ll encounter the Crabble-Rouser, a monster that looks somewhat like a crab. However, as you approach it, Maeve will appear.

Maeve will reveal herself to be the boss of the Tower, as she claims to be the one who has taken the women of the village hostage. Maeve’s efforts are because of her hate towards the village and what the villagers did to her brother. Deep down in her heart, she hopes that the villagers will still muster courage one day to stand against her.

But before you can talk to her, you’ll have to fight against the Crabble-Rouser. The Crabble-Rouser is weak to magic. Feel free to use Frizz and Crack as much as possible with Maribel.

You can also use your Aqua Slash to lower the ice resistance so Maribel’s Crack magic deals slightly more damage to the enemy. Kiefer can just repeatedly use his Flame Slash or regular attacks for damage, and that would be enough to beat this enemy.

Maeve’s Hope

Once the Crabble-Rouser has been defeated, Maeve will talk to you. She reveals that when you first met her near the graves, it was the real her, as she managed to muster what remains of her humanity. Shortly, she’ll transform into a skeletal monster.

However, just as the fight is about to begin, the villagers finally arrive as they had promised. It was all thanks to Patrick and his father. Maeve finally rests easy knowing that the villagers have fulfilled their promise, but she still asks you to defeat her so the village can be free from her.

The villagers also realize that the monster in front of you is Maeve, Molloy’s younger sister. You’ll then have to fight against Maeve. The battle isn’t as difficult as Maeve is trying to hold herself back a little, and Honlan is also assisting you in the battle.

Once you’ve defeated Maeve, she asks you to go back to where you met her for the first time, near the graves. She then disappears, alongside all the dark clouds surrounding the region.

The Prosperous Village Of Ballymolloy

As you return to the village, you’ll find all the women have returned, and everyone is extremely happy. You’ll have to head back to Patrick’s house to talk to him and his father.

Honlan asks you to go back to the area where you met Maeve, suggesting that you might find a way back home now that the calamity has been resolved.

Returning To Estard Island

As you return to the forest, you’ll find that the flowers Maeve planted near the graves have blossomed. You’ll also find Patrick tending to the graves. He’ll return the wooden doll that you gave him earlier.

Make your way to the point in the forest where you teleported. You’ll find a portal there. Interact with the portal, and you’ll return to the Shrine of Mysteries.

Just as the trio is celebrating their return to Estard Island, a huge earthquake happens, and the entire Ballymolloy Island emerges in the ocean near Estard Island.

The young friends decide that it’s time to return to their homes for the time being, as their families might have been worried due to their sudden absence. You’ll also have to return to Pilchard Bay.

The Sudden Appearance Of The Island

As you return home, your mother Pearl will tell you about the new island that emerged out of nowhere. Now, you have to find a way to go to this island and find out what exactly it is.

If you keep going left from your house, you’ll find a small cave where you and Kiefer had been repairing the ship. Once you arrive here, Maribel will join you, and you’ll be able to set sail on the sea.

Head to this new island. But be wary, as the monsters in the ocean are quite strong.

The Modern Ballymolloy Village

As you arrive in the village, you’ll find it completely different from how you last saw it. All of the buildings are new, and everything seems different.

If you talk to the people here, they’ll talk about a mysterious trio that arrived out of nowhere to save their village in the past. It’s obvious they’re talking about you, but there’s a lot to be answered right now.

There’s a large house in the middle of the village. If you go upstairs in the house, you’ll find a man who’ll ask if you’re looking for rainbow rocks.

If you decline, the man will give you a green stone fragment. The man will also teach you a song, and you can use it to head to the Rainbow Mine and get inside it.

More Stone Fragments

Now, head to the Rainbow Mines. Talk to the guard at the gate and sing him the anthem that you had learned from the man, and he’ll let you pass.

You’ll then have to make your way to Level 3 of the Rainbow Mines to find a red stone fragment. By now, you’ve gathered two stone fragments of different colors. It’s time to head back to Estard Island. Exit the cave and take the ship back to Estard Island.

Here, you have to head to the Estard Castle. As you enter the castle, you may spot Dermot in front of a locked gate, but you can’t access that area from here.

First, you’ll have to take the stairs to the left, and that will lead you to the rooftop of the Estard Castle. Here, you have to go a little east and enter the room on the eastern side of the castle. There’s a stair leading down from here, and you’ll be able to reach Dermot with it.

Dermot’s Friend

As you talk with Dermot, it appears that he’s trying to talk the guard into letting him go and meet this person. However, the guard isn’t letting Dermot do anything. Prince Kiefer finally manages to convince the guard, and you can finally go and meet Dermot’s old friend.

Dermot’s old friend claims to have hidden a stone fragment in the castle, but refuses to let you have it. After a few words from Dermot, he finally agrees. You can then take the raft and head out of the castle.

The raft allows you to travel in the river around the castle. Circle around to get to the east of the castle, and you’ll find a stair where you can get off the raft.

From here, you have to go behind the castle. There’s a door here, and if you open it, you’ll find a staircase leading downward, where you’ll encounter another red fragment.

Another Adventure

After acquiring this red fragment, it’s time to continue the journey. Head to the Shrine of Mysteries. It’s difficult to get out of the castle with the raft, so you can open the menu and select your character to cast Zoom. This will allow you to teleport to the Shrine of Mysteries.

As you arrive in the shrine, the Caretaker asks you to place the fragments on the relevant pedestals. You only have two green fragments, but you can complete a red pedestal with the three pieces you have found so far. Place the fragments on the red pedestal, and you’ll be prompted to head to the next adventure.
