DragonSword: Awakening – Walkthrough Part 2: Chapter 1

This walkthrough will cover the DragonSword: Awakening chapter 1, after the prologue.

Lute meets with Castella and Johnny, who are members of the Mercenaries; Johnny is the leader. After their encounter with the Orc Warrior, they all reach the Orbis Royal Castle, where Lute originally was heading before meeting them. With the prologue completed, we continue the remainder of the game’s first chapter.

Exploring The Orbis Royal Castle | The First Quest

DragonSword: Awakening Chapter 1
One Of The Shops In The Orbis Castle Town.

The Orbis Castle is massive, offering multiple locations and NPCs to interact with. However, since you’ve only completed the prologue for now, there’s not much to do except buy cooking ingredients from Erena, the cooking ingredient merchant.

So, explore the castle at your leisure, then return to Johnny and Castella, who stand beside the third Mercenary, Aria. Talk to her to start the fifth story quest: The First Quest. Aria will introduce herself, and Johnny will task her to guide Lute to their guild, as he prepares for their next operation.

Johnny And His Party.

Once their conversation ends, follow the objective marker on the map and get to the middle of the castle town to find the Mercenaries Guild Office. Talk to Anne at the reception. Castella and Arrive will introduce you to her, and she will assign you your first quest: Delivering A Lunchbox at the Orbis Castle gate.

While the Mercenaries argue that they’re not running errands for everyone, Anne says that the corp solely exists to help everyone in need, no matter how trivial a quest is.

And here, ‘The First Quest’ ends.

Not A Dark Elf

DragonSword: Awakening Chapter 1
Castella Telling Lute About Familiar.

The sixth quest of chapter 1 is titled ‘Not a Dark Elf,’ and after talking to Anne, head to the fountain in the town square. There, Aria and Castella talk about Familiar, a being that allows the Mercenaries to travel long distances faster.

Every corp member receives a Familiar after joining, and it is no different for Lute. Press V to summon Familiar, a bug-like creature that you can ride to reach the objectives faster.

While riding it, you can use Familiar’s following skills:

  • Glide: While jumping, jump again to glide
  • Dash: Press Shift to receive a speed boost that allows you to dash through the lands faster than ever.
  • Climbing: By going near a wall, the Familiar can automatically climb it.
  • Swimming/Diving: Familiar are great inherent swimmers. Additionally, you can dive underwater by pressing the dive button.

With your Familiar, exit the castle by following the objective marker and talk to Bart, one of the royal guards. He’s the one who has ordered the lunch box.

The Royal Guard, Bart.

As the Mercenaries deliver the lunch box, the conversation becomes heated as Bart assumes that Castella is an evil, dark elf; she’s just tanned since she loves sunbathing. Aria calms them down, and the quest ends.

The Shepherdess

DragonSword: Awakening Chapter 1
Ellie, The Sheperdess.

For our next quest, we are heading to the giant tree on a nearby hill. Use the Familiar to reach there faster, then talk to Ellie. Unfortunately, one of her sheep was stolen by the goblins, and as Mercenaries, it’s our job to help her.

DragonSword: Awakening Chapter 1
Ellie Telling The Mercenaries About The Stolen Sheep.

After talking to Ellie, turn left to find a treasure chest, and then descend the hill to reach the objective. You will find the sheep there, but before you can carry it, three level 5 goblins will ambush you. Take them down, and then take the sheep back to the pasture.

DragonSword: Awakening Chapter 1
Carrying The Stolen Sheep.

Drop the sheep and talk to Ellie. Since the goblins stole her sheep, she requests that the mercenaries assault their hideout to stop their atrocities. Now, turn around and follow the smoke beyond the hill to reach the goblin’s hideout; there’s a warp point nearby that allows you to fast-travel.

At The Goblin Hideout.

Follow the path through the forest while defeating the enemies, and at the hideout, fight against ten goblins. Two of them are heavily armored, and defeating them requires an extraneous amout of hits to be delivered. Once they’re all dealt with, talk to Ellie, who will then reveal another cave’s location with the goblin’s treasure.

However, a boulder blocks the entrance. Pick up one of the explosive barrels and throw it at the boulder to open the cave. Instead of a treasure cave, we meet a giant, mini-boss spider named Orion that you have to defeat. With multiple tag combos and skills, it won’t take long to defeat it.

The quest ends with this battle, providing you with a complete armor set as a reward.

A Mystery From Antiquity

DragonSword: Awakening Chapter 1
Ellie Telling The Mercenaries About The Strange Elf.

After defeating Orion, exit the cave and talk to Ellie. Lute understands that she has been deceiving them since the beginning, but Ellie says that they can move past this, as they have made this area safer either way.

The Mercenaries decide to forgive her since she’s a kid, and before they leave, she gives us a milk bottle and requests to deliver it to the Strange Elf on top of the mountain.

Going To The Strange Elf.

Now, follow the objective’s marker and climb the mountain to find the Strange Elf, Alvwyn, on a platform. However, he reveals that he didn’t request the mercenaries for this task, revealing that Ellie made a fool of them again.

After they give him the milk bottle, Alvwyn, the archaeologist, asks us to retrieve his stolen tool from the goblins. So, go through the ruins ahead to find a descending staircase, which will lead you to the goblin bandit hideout; it’s the same place where you first fought the Orc Warrior.

DragonSword: Awakening Chapter 1
The Goblin Bandit Hideout.

Defeat the goblins and the Orc Warrior, then pick up the giant cog wheel and return it to Alvwyn. Before the quest ends, he decides to show us what it does. Suddenly, the platform starts shaking, and it rises from the ground, turning into a tower called Eona’s Legacy.

DragonSword: Awakening Chapter 1
Eona’s Legacy.

Eona’s Legacy towers are present all over the map and can be used to reveal new regions. With this, the quest ends.

Note: If you have played The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild, you will notice that the Eona's Legacy works similar to the Sheikah Towers.

The Captain’s Scheme

Going Through The Windmill Blades.

When the first Eona’s Legacy is activated, talk to Alvwyn. He will thank Lute for activating this ancient tower and asks them to cover all of them on their journey. While Castella says that they will not do it for free, Alvwyn says that he will give them a treasure in return; she agrees instantly.

Since we have completed multiple requests, it’s now time to return to Anne. Ride your Familiar and go through the blue windmill-esque blades to gain an immense speed boost. Fly to the Orbis Royal Castle; keep an eye on the stamina gauge.

Flying Over The Orbis Royal Castle.

In the town square, talk to Anne, and the corp will ask for further quest. Since they’re all about running errands, Castella becomes mad and asks if she has a “real” quest for them. However, as our party isn’t experienced, she can’t task us with life-threatening quests.

DragonSword: Awakening Chapter 1
Johnny Arguing With Anne.

Hearing this, Johnny arrives, threatens Anne, and asks her to call the Guildmaster so he can talk to him about the quests they’re being assigned. A few moments later, a towering and menacing individual, Noden, arrives. He’s the Mercenary Guild Master.

DragonSword: Awakening Chapter 1
Noden.

Talk to Noden, but despite all efforts, he disallows Anne to give the apprentice mercenaries proper quests as they need to work on their reputations first. After this conversation, talk to Johnny, and he will talk about his “trump card,” asking you to meet him in an alley.

There, he orders Lute to bring him a small wine barrel. Now, go to the objective’s location to find the barrel, then carry it to Johnny.

The Wine Barrel.

He will thank you and leave. Suddenly, every guild member in the town square will fall asleep. As Lute asks what’s wrong with them, Aria tells him that Johnny gave them a very strong liquor, eliminating our party’s competitors.

Talk to Noden again, and this time, he gives us a proper quest from the Organa Order. Return to Johnny and talk to him. After this conversation, ride your Familiar and head for the Antea Grand Cathedral. The guard outside the cathedral warns Johnny to watch his tone before Lady Ornette, a priestess who is currently acting as Saintess Ysera’s representative, the order’s leader.

Lady Ornette.

Head inside and talk to Lady Ornette. She asks the mercenaries to bring her the Relic of the Dragon Worshippers, loyal to the Dragon Kalagon. Before we can accept this quest, two unfamiliar mercenaries, called the Red Fox Mercenaries, ask Ornette to let them handle this quest as they reveal how Johnny put everyone to sleep using the liquor.

The Red Fox Mercenaries are Roxy And Alex. As a fight nearly breaks out between the two groups, Lady Ornette tells them to calm down and comes up with an idea: The group that brings back the Dragon Relic will receive the rewards.

Roxy And Alex.

Johnny and Red Fox Mercenaries accept this challenge. Here, this quest will conclude.

A Temporary Alliance

Leaving The Antea Grand Cathedral.

Leave the Antea Grand Cathedral, and get ready to travel to the Dragon Disciple’s Hideout. To save yourself some time, open the map and teleport to the region’s Eona’s Legacy.

From there, jump down using your Familiar and glide towards the objective. Follow the path while defeating the goblins in your way. Once you reach the hideout’s entrance, Aria will reveal that someone has already gone through the gate.

The Dragon Disciple’s Hideout.

Before you head inside the hideout, the game will tell you how to level up your characters. To do so, click a character on the character selection screen and visit the details section. Click on the level-up button, and if you have one of the required items, you can level up the selected character.

For this specific dungeon, you will need level 10 characters. So, upgrade your characters first, arrange your team, and then head inside.

Upgrading Our Characters.

In the garden, defeat the six goblins; one of them is heavily armored. Then, follow the path ahead, and defeat the next wave of goblins inside the room. Go to the objective, and Aria will talk about how weird the bookshelves look. Push the farthest bookshelf to the left, which reveals the door to the next room.

Pushing The Bookshelf.

Among the goblins, you will find a Dragon Worshipper. Before you can defeat them, they will run away by creating a portal. Continue through the corridor and open the next door to meet with Roxy and Alex again.

However, there’s a puzzle that requires six people to stand on different platforms, and both parties don’t have enough people to complete it. Aria asks everyone to form a temporary alliance to open the door, and now, step on the bottom right platform.

Solving The Platform Puzzle.

Ahead, both parties find the dragon relic they were supposed to find. Seeing this, Roxy makes a run for it and tries to secure it before Johnny’s party. But little does she know, Johnny and Castella throw Lute at her; talk about drastic measures.

Lute slams into her, and the relic drops hard on the ground. While it doesn’t break, it signals a red light, which calls a dragon into the ruins.

The Dragon Relic.

Without looking behind, make a run for it and exit the dungeons. Avoid the falling rocks and maneuver through the broken platforms to run efficiently. Just before the final room, defeat the goblins and one dragon follower, and you will be able to reach the exit.

Running Through The Dungeon.

Unfortunately, the dragon manages to follow the parties. It’s time to take it down.

Starving Ghost of Corrosion Furcas – Boss Fight

Furcas.

Furcas is a blue-flame dragon that doesn’t really throw flames at you, but will deal staggering damage with its claws and body if you stand too close. Still, it’s the only way to defeat it.

Get close to the dragon, and attack it with everything you have. Before it attacks, you will hear a slicing sound, which is your cue to dodge away. Castella’s screaming skill is the best way to break the dragon’s shield, dropping its guard and giving you a chance to attack it.

Rushing Towards Furcas.

One of the attacks that you have to look out for is the skydive. When Furcas flies, runs all the way back, and let it slam hard on the ground. Instead of hurting the party, it will stun itself, and that’s the perfect moment to attack the dragon.

Furcas, Flying.

By using all of your characters’ tag combos and abilities, you will be able to defeat Furcas and become the victor of this battle.

The Girl In Lute’s Vision.

Before the dragon leaves, it sees something in Lute, a vision of a girl and a man. This scares the dragon, and it ultimately runs away from the dungeon.

Starving Ghost of Corrosion Furcas – Post-Boss Fight

Alex And Roxy, Leaving The Dungeon.

After the boss fight, talk to Roxy. She will give Lute the relic for defeating the dragon, and says that she will pay Johnny back for saving her.

Now, when everyone leaves, exit the dungeon and return to the Antea Grand Cathedral to talk to Lady Ornette. Open up the map, and click on the statue of Organa to warp to the castle instantly.

Outside The Dungeon.

Talk to Ornette in the cathedral, and she will reveal further about the dragon relic. Inside these relics are Dragon Dusts, which are used to tame dragons throughout the kingdom. When the party leaves, Ornette talks to the goddess’ statue, and it asks her to stop collecting relics. Suddenly, a mysterious figure appears behind Ornette and tells her that they have figured out “the whereabouts of the traitor.”

Lady Ornette And The Mysterious Figure.

When the cutscene ends, talk to Noden about the quest. Unfortunately, he reveals that the Organa Order has requested to mark this quest as unofficial, nullifying it from the records. Johnny becomes infuriated because everything his party did was all in vain, but Noden says there’s nothing he can do about it. He calls it a learning experience, and here, the tenth quest ends.

Noden Talking To Johnny.
