This walkthrough will cover DragonSword: Awakening, Chapter 3.
Lute and the Johnny mercenaries decide to find more quests to increase their reputation in the Orbis Kingdom. However, this little endeavor turned into a mess since they met with Saintess Ysera and Lord Ewald, two of the Six Heroes, in the process. We learn more about the Kingdom’s history and meet with the strongest factions. With this, the story now picks up the pace.

Mercenary Corps Promotion Exam [Lower Rank]

After completing the second chapter of the game, Lute and his party are ready to take a promotion exam for their rank. Leave King Roderic’s castle and head towards the restaurant to talk to other mercenaries.
Aria will tell the party that these mercenaries have now become intermediate after clearing the exam. Johnny finds it impossible. Talk to Anne at the reception, and she’ll explain how the promotion exams work.
Completing Mercenary Promotion quests can allow you to break through the boundaries of power, which also makes all enemies in the world stronger. Additionally, it will allow you to level up your characters beyond level 20.
Note: Since we're covering only the story, don't forget to complete the promotion quests yourself to increase your skills and receive experience as rewards.
In Search of Barduk

Beginning our third chapter of DragonSword: Awakening, talk to Ewald in the castle. He’ll tell us to find Barduk, Sage of the Abyss, first. With his wisdom, he can protect the Orbis Kingdom after Ysera’s death. To find him, he’ll tell us about the academy Barduk has built, the Ophelia Academia of Magic, and wants us to talk to Ryza, who’s related to it.
When the conversation ends, talk to King Kalsion, and he’ll tell you to have a conversation with Cerese, the Chief Court Mage, who recently returned from the academy. While she doesn’t know his whereabouts, she hands us Barduk’s compass to find his location.

Unfortunately, we need parts before the compass can function. For them, talk to Shanoa first, and she will give the power core. However, it’s powerless. To use it, Shanoa tells us to defeat a mutant slime in the kingdom and use its core to power it.
The mutant slime is located near the first Warp Point near the Morninglight Farm. Go to the pond and defeat the slime. Pick up its core, and return to Shanoa. She’ll power up the compass’ core, but she doesn’t know where to find the two remaining parts of it.

To learn more, meet Lyn at the Amber Trading Company’s building. Since we’re seeking information, she requires information in return; a master trader for a reason. However, knowing that Lute isn’t from Orbis, Lyn gives us a once-in-a-lifetime free offer and tells us about Karina. She knows about the compass parts.

With this conversation, the quest ends.
The Seagull Village

According to Lyn, we can find Karina in the Seagull Village. This village is on the edge of the Field of Plenty; teleport there using the area’s Eona’s Legacy. Talk to the villagers, and you’ll learn that Ms. Karina is a pirate who plunders other pirates, which is a morally grey thing to do, as a pirate is inherently a criminal.
Now, talk to Ms. Karina at the dock. However, she’ll mistake your party for a group of workers, whom she called to help her move boxes to the ship. While Johnny is hesitant, Lute and others decide to follow through with it. Pick up the box and place it near Ms. Karina to end this quest.
The Meeting

After placing the box, talk to Ms. Karina again. She’ll show us the letter from Lyn, and unsurprisingly, the merchant set us up. According to the agreement that the party signed, Ms. Karina would only help us with the parts if we helped her in return; the party didn’t read it. And now, we’re running an errand for her.
Karina asks us to defeat the Gnoll Pirates, who are interfering with her business. So, follow the objective’s location and defeat all five of the pirates. As a reward, she gives us the second piece of the compass and tells us where to find the final part: The Lighthouse of the Seagull Village.
The Final Piece

Reach the lighthouse and talk to the informant. After she learns about the reason why we’re looking for Barduk, she asks us to talk to Karina and vanishes. Return to Karina, and she’ll tell us that we have to wait until she hears a response from the informant.
In the meantime, Karina will ask for your help again. Pick up the box, move it to the other dock, and talk to her again. She’ll reveal that the informant is ready to meet with the party, and she’ll bring the person who has information about the last part.

Now, move towards the Southwestern Hill to find her. Finally, the informant will give the remaining parts of the compass. And, “The Final Piece” quest ends here.
Barduk, the Sage of the Abyss

The compass directs us towards Skyspire Rock Mountain. To get there, glide with your Familiar and talk to the suspicious old man. He is Baldur, and he is nothing like Lord Ewald. He has hearing problems, has trouble walking, and thinks of us as the people whom he hired to gather herbs from his garden.
Go to the garden, gather the herbs, and return to him. Finally, he reveals himself as a “senile” old man and asks us if Ewald sent us. The party tells him the real reason: Ewald wants to fix the Barrier between the dragons and Orbis, which is the reason why Largo could cause chaos at the cemetery.

Barduk agrees to help the party, but before he can talk further, he wants us to retrieve the Essence of Water from a Spring of the Full Moon; his throat is dry. Here, the quest ends.
The Sage and the Mercenary

The spring is located near the Endless Summoning Grounds dungeon. Teleport there, and move towards the objective’s location to retrieve the essence. Pick it up from the lake, then return to Barduk. In return, he gives us numerous crystals created with alchemy and asks us to receive the Goddess’ blessing from the Organa statue; teleport there.

At the statue, interact with the box to put the crystals inside, and get ready to fight against 15 enemies. Once it’s done, return to Barduk. He reveals that these crystals will be used to restore the Barrier Stone and asks Lute’s party to relay this message to Ewald. We only have to wait for the right time, and the quest ends.
Waiting

Teleport to the Orbis Castle and tell Ewald about Barduk. He wants us to keep the news about the Barrier Stone a secret from everyone, as it could panic everyone in the Orbis Kingdom. Now, leave the room, and King Klasion will talk to Ewald about the progression of this quest. He calls Johnny and his mercenaries special.
Exit King Roderic’s castle and go to the Central Plaza. The party will discuss the quest until Lyn summons them to the Amber Trading Company’s building. Meet her at the Milan Main Hall. She’ll show gratitude for our efforts to restore the barrier and tell us that Barduk has summoned the party to the mountain.
The “Waiting” quest ends here.
The Wanderer of the Wilderness

Leave the hall and head towards the Skyspire Rock Mountain to meet Barduk. To complete the reconstruction of the Barrier Stone, he’ll ask us one last favor: Defeat the lesser dragon at the mountaintop.
Warning: Since we're fighting a major boss, I would recommend completing the promotion quest if you havent, and upgrade your heroes further. Additionally, don't remove Lute from your team, ever.
The climb to the mountaintop is hard, and the wild birds there will attack you on sight. Cross the gaps with your Familiar, and use the wind geysers to go above instantly. At the final geyser, activate the warp point, and go above to fight against Grassland Lesser Dragon.

Its attack patterns are similar to Furcas, but you have to keep an eye on its tail. When the dragon moves its tail near its abdomen, get ready to dodge and avoid the swing. This fight can be tough, and the best way to defeat it is to keep attacking it repeatedly and make the most of tag combos to break its guard and inflict heavy damage.
Defeating Grassland Lesser Dragon completes this quest.
Awakening

Talk to Barduk after the boss fight, and he will tell us about the origin dragons. When Organa defeated Kalagon, all of its body parts and dust spread across the entire world. The dragons that were born from its body parts are called the Origin Dragons.
He further expands the Six Heroes story. After defeating Arugal, they discovered Kalagon’s heart inside it, which could be used to lift the curse of the Dragon Dust. However, only one of them could eat it. So, the heroes fought each other for it, and Ropie was the last person standing. Still, he didn’t consume the heart, as ingesting Kalagon’s body part could give the consumer its powers.

To save humanity from dragons, he decided to hide it. This explains the feud between Ysera and Ropie. Now, Barduk says that people can consume other dragon parts to attain their power and lift the Dragon Dust’s curse. Suddenly, he’ll walk forward and eat the lesser dragon’s horn.

The environment becomes eerie, and in a snap, Barduk transforms into a dragon himself. The greed has gotten the best of him. Get ready to fight Barduk. The tips remain the same: Avoid the attacks, keep an eye on the Tag Combos, and don’t stop attacking.
After you deplete 50% of Barduk’s HP, he flies above and slams down to the ground to suck up all the poison on the mountaintop. With this, he’ll spray poison towards you, and a cutscene will begin. It’s the exact cutscene from the game’s beginning, where all of Lute’s party is unconscious, and Johnny wants Lute to remain alive, no matter what.

He takes the poison’s blow and falls to the ground. Seeing every member of his party, Lute remembers his past, specifically the time when he wanted to be like his grandpa, who saved everyone. The mark on Lute’s face expands, and he transforms into a half-dragon, just like Largo.

With this god-like form, you have to fight against Barduk once more. Use everything you can. Barduk doesn’t stand a chance against Lute’s half-dragon form.

After Lute successfully defeats Barduk, he returns to his human form, and Johnny wakes up. Before Lute falls to the ground, Johnny catches him and watches Barduk, who rots away with this defeat. The feathers of Lute’s half-dragon form heal Castella and Aria, but they’re still too weak.
Now, Johnny carries everyone to the shore. However, like everyone, he’s extremely exhausted. He falls unconscious. The informant arrives and takes everyone to Ms. Karina’s dock. After a few moments, Lute regains consciousness.

Talk to Johnny, and with this conversation, we learn that Lute doesn’t remember anything about his form. Johnny saw him fighting Barduk, but he doesn’t want to reveal it to Lute, as it could startle him. The “Awakening” quest ends here.
Those Left Behind

Move towards the dock to find Karina, then talk to her. Everyone thanks her for letting them rest here. She tells them about the hooded informant who brought them here, and they want to talk with the party.
Go to the cliff to find the hooded informant. They’ll give us a note from Barduk with instructions to repair the Barrier Stone. After this conversation, the informant leaves, and now it’s time to report everything to Lord Ewald at the castle.

Teleport to the Organa statue in the square, and head to King Roderic’s castle to meet Ewald. This conversation takes an interesting turn as Johnny asks whether what Barduk told them about the fight for Arugal’s heart is true.
According to Ewald, it’s indeed true. All heroes fought for Arugal’s heart to lift the curse. Hearing this, Johnny resents the Six Heroes, as they saved the Orbis Kingdom but were “greedy” behind the scenes. King Kalsion overhears the conversation and defends Lord Ewald.
He deems Johnny’s resentment justified, but Lord Ewald truly feels regretful for the heroes’ past actions. So, King Kalsion orders the mercenaries to rest and sort out their feelings. He’ll contact them when the time is right, as he has a quest for us.
