Escape From Ever After is an RPG full of amazing adventures, featuring a story about fairytale characters fighting against capitalism. The game is inspired by the classic Paper Mario games. You will be playing as Flynt Buckler, a fairytale character who storms the castle in hopes of fighting the legendary dragon. However, when Flynt reaches the castle, everything seems different.
The castle is not what it used to be, and the dragon has met a very different fate. Due to this, you will have to go on a journey to fight against a powerful corporation instead. In this guide, I will provide a comprehensive walkthrough of the prologue of Escape From Ever After, helping you progress through the early stages of the game and understand its mechanics.

Escape From Ever After – Prologue Walkthrough

As the game starts, you will find yourself in the castle. After talking to Red Riding Hood, you will be given directions on where to go. Head left and follow the red carpet.
Talk To The Manager, Mr. Moon

There will be a lot of NPCs around, and you can talk to them for some interesting conversations. However, this is not necessary, as you can skip all of them and head left to talk to the manager.
Fight The Dragon And Escape The Prison

Once you have talked to the manager, you will be defeated and imprisoned alongside the once mighty dragon. After having a long talk with the dragon, you will have to face him in battle. This will serve as an introduction to the combat mechanics, so it is not going to be tough.
Just follow whatever the game is telling you, and you will be good to go. Once you have defeated the dragon, you will be tasked with grabbing the key using your ability. Line yourself up with the key and throw Buckler to pick it up. Use the key to open the door and make sure to save your game.
Save Your Game And Continue Moving Ahead

You can save your game at the copier with the S on it. Then, collect the coins, head up the path, and follow along. Keep going ahead, and you will find the dragon again. Talk to him and watch as he opens the door with his mighty power.
Fight Some Enemies While Learning The Game’s Mechanics

When the door unlocks, of course, with the mighty power of the dragon, two enemies will appear, triggering another battle. In this fight, you will also be able to use your second ability, which requires MP. Mocha Points are limited and are used for special attacks, so you will need to be careful with them.
They can be refilled by drinking a caffeinated beverage, either in or out of battle. There is also something known as Synergy Points, which allow you to perform special attacks as a team. In this case, you will be able to perform special attacks with the dragon.
At the start of the fight, you can either attack or open the Synergy or Tactics tab. Since this is the prologue, the fight is not going to be hard at all. Try out different things and learn the setup. Use your special attack and then a normal attack to finish at least one of them.
Make sure to throw the Buckler again both times for additional damage. Also, do not forget that you can block attacks. As the enemy approaches you to attack, get ready to block. Eventually, you will win the battle and gain EXP, and the enemies will retreat.
How To Find The Secret Passageway
After that, talk to the dragon, complete the mini game, and then find the secret passageway. Enter the open gate to the north and burn the red flag to the left. Then jump down and save your game. After that, head up to the platform on your left and use your Buckler to activate the lever.
Defeat More Enemies And Learn New Mechanics

Once you do that, the gate on the right side will open, and an enemy will appear. Since this is a turn-based RPG, if an enemy hits you first before the fight begins, they will get the first turn. Because of this, you should interact with the enemy first.
This enemy will have a shield, which can make the fight a little annoying. Press Y or Triangle, or the keyboard input, to switch to the dragon and use Fire Breath to burn the shield. Then, as Flynt, use the Buckler to deal damage, and when it is their turn, make sure to block.
The dragon will not be able to damage the other enemy at close range and will get hit by the blade. Because of this, you will need to use Flynt’s Buckler to disarm the enemies first, and then use the dragon’s attacks. Once the enemies are defeated, you can head right and enter through the door.
Note
There are some objects, such as vases, lying around that you can break to obtain items. Remember, you want some caffeinated beverages to refill the MP bar. Breaking those objects can lead you to find such items. Not all of them will contain a beverage, as some may give you a single coin, or some may drop nothing.
Use The Dragon’s Fire Breath To Open The Gate

Now that you are in the other room, use the dragon’s fire to light up the altars, and that will open up the gate. A chest will also appear, so make sure to open it before proceeding. It will contain Buckler Barrage, a skill that lets you attack one enemy multiple times in a row.
Fight More Enemies To Progress Further

You will need to equip it, and it contains 2 MP. Then head right and use Buckler to start the battle against the Hard-Boiled Brute. This time, you will get a pop-up explaining what research in tactics is about in detail.
You can use the research tactic to know more about them and then start attacking carefully. Do note that there is going to be a flying enemy here, along with a shielded one. Defeat the first Hard-Boiled Brute and then take care of the shield with the dragon’s fire breath.
Then use the Buckler to disarm the guard, and then defeat him completely. Now, hit the flying enemy with the Buckler, and when he falls down, defeat him as well.
Note
If during the fight, you are low on HP, head over to the synergy bar, as you will be able to restore health.
Solve The Puzzle To Go Ahead

Now, you can go ahead once you solve a puzzle. It is going to be pretty simple, so just head up the platform at the north side and use the dragon’s flame to light up the altar. Once done, use the Buckler to carry the flames to the other altar, and then the path will appear for you to continue ahead.
Go ahead and break the objects with your Buckler, and you will get a Muffin. Then, head up the platform to the right and follow the path to find more enemies. It will be the flying Hard-Boiled Egg, so you can jump and then throw the Buckler to get the first hit.
Defeat the enemies, collect the loot, and then continue ahead. On the right side, you will find some objects. Destroy all of them to find a chest that contains a Trinket that grants you a chance to dodge the enemy’s attack when your health is low.
How To Find The Key

Head up the path, and now you will need to find a key to open the exit. There is a treasure room on the east side, and that is where you will find the key. There are going to be a couple of enemies ahead, so defeat them and continue moving forward. Save the game by heading north from the saving machine, and then go right to find a rare gem, and then there is a vending machine on the right side.

It lets you restore all of your HP and MP for some coins. Grab the items on the ground floor and then head up the stairs. There will be a guard and a flying Hard-Boiled Egg; defeat them, and to the right is the treasure room.
Defeat The Three Mice

Inside will be a few rats stealing the gold. After the conversation is over, you will have to face them in a battle. They will stack up together, so attack the lower one with both of your characters. Then use the fire breath to remove the shield.
Note
Attacks from spears, while they can be blocked, still deal damage (they may not deal damage in the easy mode). So, you will lose 2 HP every time the enemy hits you with a spear. The best way to deal with them is to disarm them by attacking with a Buckler.

After a couple of turns, the mice will stack up again, so try to hit the one that does not have a shield. Continue dealing damage while burning their shields and disarming them, and you will be victorious in no time. This fight will give you enough EXP to level up, so you will have to choose between three more HP points, four more MP points, or one more TP point.
I went with more HP. After that, you will have a long conversation with the mice and get to know more about what is going on.
Loot The Treasure Room For Some Items And The Key

The chest on the northwest side contains an Ink Bottle. You need to collect these to upgrade your attacks. The chest to the right contains the key you need, so grab the key and head back to the locked door.
Note
As you enter through the door to the north, there will be a cell. Head inside and light up the altars to summon a chest.
Open the door, go ahead, defeat the enemies, head up the stairs, and there will be a door to your right. Before you go through the door, head up the platform at the southeast side to find another rare gem.

Then, exit the gate, and a cutscene will commence, and you will be brought back to Mr. Moon. It is now time for a job interview.
Interview Questions And Their Answers

The following are the answers I chose in my playthrough:
- What’s the name of the company you’re applying for? Every After Inc.
- Why do you want to work here? Any of the answers here is fine to choose.
- What can you bring to the company? If you choose “Problem solving skills.” Mr. Moon is going to throw in another question. I chose “… You?” for the next one.
- If you choose, “I can throw my buckler pretty far.” he will follow it up with another question. There doesn’t seem to be a right answer to this question, so select any but 10 feet seems like the best one.
- What’s your biggest weakness? I’m a perfectionist.
Note
There are no right or wrong answers, as even if you choose options like I want to burn this company to the ground, you will still get the job.
Talk To Starla To Get Started

Once you get out of the manager’s office, Starla will give you your employee badge. Then you will be introduced to your office and a PC. The boss will send you emails about what your next task is going to be, so you will have to regularly check them.
Even your coworkers will email you for advice or help. So your corporate journey in the game begins now.
Check Emails Using The PC

You will have four emails, and among them, there are going to be some tasks. Count Dracula is basically a merchant to whom you can sell the rare gems you collected. Mother Goose is asking you to light up some of the torches around the office, and Mr. Moon is welcoming you and giving you directions on what to do next.
On your PC, there are two more apps. One is the office decorator, and the other is music. The former can be used to decorate the office according to your liking, but it is going to cost you money.
Light Up The Torches Around The Office

You can find Mother Goose in the office and talk to her. Then, there are going to be four torches around the office. Two of them are right outside your office, and to light them up, you will need to destroy the box on the left. Upon destroying it, jump on the spring to reach the top of the bookshelf and then light up the first torch.
After that, jump and throw your Buckler to light up another one. Two of them are going to be near Mother Goose, so light them up as well, and then talk to her again.

Note
If you want to find Count Dracula, head out of the office and then enter the giant door to the north past the reception. Go ahead, and Count Dracula will be on the left side. You can buy and even sell items to him.
Find Helga To Learn More About Combat

To find Helga, head out of the office and go through the door at the north just past the reception. Then, go left and enter through the door. You will reach the cafeteria, so from there continue going left and through another door. After that, you will find Helga, the customer service representative, who was a Viking before.

She will teach you more about combat and provide you with a key item, Synergy Attacks. After that, she will ask you to practice the new skills. Do so and practice the new synergy skills you have. Once done, run away, and then Helga will provide you with an Ink Bottle.
Then, talk to Helga again, and you can upgrade either the Buckler Barrage or the Horn Headbutt. If you do not want to upgrade yet, simply leave.
Where To Find Mr. Moon

Now, you need to find Mr. Moon, who will be in the courtyard. Head right until you reach the courtyard, and he will be at the southwest side. Upon talking to him, he will ask you whether you have heard about the fairytale, The Three Little Pigs.

Once your conversation with him is over, head to the Library, which is east of the reception. There, talk to Starla, and you will get The Three Little Pigs book along with The Adventure of Flynt Buckler. Then, jump on the Telepager and select The Three Little Pigs as the destination to start the first chapter.
With this, the Escape From Ever After prologue walkthrough comes to an end.
