Escape From Ever After – Chapter Two: The Shadow Over Innsbeak Walkthrough

Now, you can either head to Mr. Moon in the library to start the next chapter, or you can explore the castle a bit. I recommend completing the new task from Mother Goose, as it will be super simple. You just have to put out the torches around the office with the help of Wolfgang’s ability.
Head Over To Mr. Moon In The Library
Then, you can head to Mr. Moon and start the next chapter. You can also head over to Helga if you want to upgrade any of your attacks. Once you are done exploring, head over to the second floor of the library, and that is where you will find Mr. Moon.
He will then ask you to break into the forbidden section of the library to get a certain book. So, you need to steal the key from Eva, the head of this branch’s HR.
How To Find Eva

You can find Eva by going north from the reception and then continuing in the north direction. Fight the guards and defeat them to enter the area. Eva will be using the computer on the northeast side. Talk to her, and the key will be right there on the table.
Now, simply head over to the plants she told you about and burn them. She will then immediately head over to the plants, so that is your chance to pick up the key.
Head Inside The Forbidden Library

Now, head back to the second floor of the library and unlock the forbidden library’s door. There are going to be guards inside, so defeat the first ones and then move the cube onto the plate to move ahead. Just ahead will be an enemy who uses different weapons and deals a lot of damage. He will not have that much health, but you still need to be careful.
Move The Blocks To Continue Moving Ahead

After defeating him, move the vertical arrow block and place it right in front of the bookshelf. Then, move the horizontal arrow block to the middle. After that, move the vertical arrow block onto the plate and move the horizontal arrow block to the far left side.
Now, head back and go up the bookshelves to follow the path from the top. Jump and continue moving, go through the door, and there will be some moving platforms. You need to light the golden chalice with fire in the middle, as it will unlock the path to the door on the right side.
Head there, and Tinder will give you the Reinforced Buckler. Head right through the door, defeat the enemy, and it is time to solve another puzzle.
Move Another Block To Unlock The Path

Move the block a little to the south, enough for you to be able to jump on the bookshelf ahead. Stand on the second bookshelf and use your Buckler to activate the lever. Then, move the block to the north and head right to go up the path. Destroy the vase to reveal a spring.
Use that to jump on the bookshelf and then follow the path ahead. Go through the door and activate the lever. This lever will unlock a shortcut for you to go down and come back up from there. Then, if you want to defeat the enemy, do so and go ahead.
Keep Going Ahead To Find The Book

After that, go through the door and jump on the moving platforms to progress further. Then, defeat the enemy and use the spring to go up. On the left side of the area, there is a chest containing a Trinket. Get that and then head right to continue progressing. Go ahead, up the stairs, defeat the enemies, and then you will reach the stone stairs.
Go up the stairs, save the game, and just ahead you will find a chest containing The Shadow Over Innsbeak. Then, two enemies will attack you. Be careful when you fight them, as they are strong. Defeat them with your strongest attacks, and then a short cutscene will trigger featuring you leaving the library and Eva confronting you.
Then, Mr. Moon will task you to go inside this book and find the missing employee, Sherlock Holmes
Starting Chapter Two: The Shadow Over Innsbeak In Escape From Ever After

Now that you have the book, head over to the Telepager and select it to start Chapter Two. As you reach the new world, head to the left until you come across two ducks talking. Then, continue heading left, and you will reach the Innsbeak Town Square.
Head Inside The Innsbeak Hotel

Save your game, and from there, just a little to the left and south, you will find a rare gem. Grab it and then head to the hotel. Talk to the duck inside to get the key for room six. Then, head to your room, and a cutscene will commence. Someone will be outside the door, but as you wake up, they will leave.
Explore The Pitch Dark Area

So, head down the stairs to find a secret entrance. The area is pitch dark, so you will not be able to see unless you use Tinder’s flame. There are a lot of torches around, so light them up for better visibility. You need to head north. From there, head west and then south.

From there, light up a torch so you can see the objects you need to jump over. Go ahead while lighting the torches, and you will notice weird drawings on the floor. Light up the middle of the drawing, and your battle against a cultist group will begin.
They will not be that strong, but the mage can be a pain to deal with, as he has the most health. The other enemies can poison you if they hit you with their daggers. After defeating them, you will get the key to room three.
Head To Room Three

Now that you have the key to room three, head back up the stairs and unlock the door. Inside the room, you will find a journal of Sherlock Holmes featuring records of his thoughts and accomplishments after arriving at Innsbeak.
Head outside the window to find the Detective Coat and Hat, which lets you track certain footprints, so it would be smart to wear it. After wearing the outfit, you will be able to see Sherlock’s footprints.
Follow The Footprints

The footprints that you see on the ground belong to Sherlock, so follow them. Activate the lever with your Buckler to continue moving ahead, and there are going to be some enemies along the way. There are going to be new enemies, fish-type creatures, who apparently can wield spears and shields.
They will not have much health, so it will not be a tough fight. Defeat them, and then you will notice Sherlock’s footprints end at a certain point. They continue on the upper platform. To go there, head right, defeat more enemies, and then jump over the moving platform.
Then, use your Buckler to activate the lever and jump on the stone platforms. There is a timer, so make sure to jump quickly to reach the roof. Go ahead, and you will then find the footprints again, so start following them. Activate the lever ahead and follow the path.
Find The Footprints Again – Solving The Pillar Puzzle

You will lose the footprints again, and you have to head to the left side, but for now, you will not be able to. So, what you need to do is defeat the enemy and then light up the two stone altars. Then, head up again and stand on the right pillar. After that, use Wolfgang’s ability to blow out the fire and, as you are going up, immediately jump onto the other pillar to reach the other side.
Enter The Quail Manor

You will then find the footprints again, so start following them. Ahead will be more enemies, so take care of them, and the footprints will lead you to a house. There will be a journal entry along the way, so pick that up and enter the Quail Manor.
As you enter the manor, Madame Quail will welcome you to the home. She will not have any idea where Sherlock is and will not even be aware of what is going on in the town. However, she seems to be hiding something, so it is worth exploring the manor a bit.
Explore The Manor To Find More Hints About The Whereabouts Of Sherlock

On the right side is another journal entry, but you cannot get it just yet. So, head to the left side and talk to the giant chef, Duxter. After talking to him, he will ask you to bring fresh worms and berries, both of which can be found in Quail Manor’s garden.

So, head right and talk to the quail guarding the garden. Head inside and use the blocks to get to the other side. Then, go ahead, and you will notice a board. Read it to find out that you need to find the switch to turn on the faucet, which will cause the worms to appear. The switch will be on the northeast side, so use the Buckler to activate it.
How To Open The Gate To Get Berries

Now, the berries can be found on the right side, but the gate is locked. So, instead, head to the left and you will notice a pattern inside the swimming pool. You need to arrange and light up the chimney-type objects in that pattern.
They can only be arranged using the blocks on the left side. Move one to the top right corner, another to the second row and second column, the third one to the third row and fourth column, and the last one to the fourth row and third column. Then, light up the second and the third ones, and the door will open.
Now, defeat the enemies inside and then use Wolfgang’s ability to grow the sprout. Then, head to the top and pick up the berry. Now that you have both items, head back to the head chef, and he will ask you to bring his sous chef, who can be found in the room on the right side.
Pick Up The Journal Entry

Head to the sous chef and tell him that the head chef requires his service. Then, move the block to the north side and go up the path to pick up the journal entry. This will prove that Sherlock Holmes did come here, and he may have found something concerning going on in this town.
Now, you will be able to track the mysterious footprints of the one who warned Sherlock about his life being in danger. For that, you need to head back to the hotel.
How To Find The Way Back To The Hotel

The way back will not be the same, so exit the manor and head north. Then, go left and fall down the hole. Use the dragon’s fire to move ahead and keep lighting up the torches. After you light up the second torch, you will have to jump onto a moving platform.

As you jump on it, make sure to keep using Tinder’s breath upward to light up the hanging brazier. Then, when the moving platform reaches the easternmost side, jump north and make your way ahead. You will find a lever there. Activate it to remove the water from the swimming pool.
After you activate the lever, a strange enemy will attack you, so defeat it. Then, head back up and go to the right side. This is where the swimming pool is, so go inside and head to the other side.
Head Back To The Hotel And Follow The Footsteps

After getting out of the pool, head right and you will see the hotel. You do not have to enter the hotel, as you will be able to track the footprints just fine. Follow them, and this will lead to another confrontation with Eva. The conversation will lead to a duel against Eva, and you will only be able to play as Flynt.
She does not have much health. Make sure to time your blocks correctly and then defeat her. After that, Eva will join your party. Her ability to transform things will surely come in handy.
Keep following the footprints, and they will lead you to a house where the mysterious person is hiding. Talk to Pigeon Pete, but he will only help if you bring him a bottle of nectar.
Where To Find A Bottle Of Nectar

To reach the upper floor, head outside and go to the right side. There, you will notice a cat. Use Eva’s ability to turn the cat into a bouncing mushroom. Then, jump and enter through the door. Ahead, you will find a chest containing the bottle of nectar.
Give the bottle to Pete, and he will tell you the story of Sherlock Holmes. He will reveal the true nature of Madame Quail and the possibility of Sherlock being kept in the manor. So, it is time to head back to the manor, but this time there will be more enemies around.
Note: You can restore your HP and MP for free by resting in your hotel room, so make sure to make full use of it.
Head Back To The Manor

Defeat the enemies and head to the manor. Enter the manor and go through the door on the north side. Now, you need to go through that door, but there isn’t a path to do so. However, a rat will keep running in a straight line, so use Eva’s ability to turn it into a bouncing mushroom.
Activate The Switch To Find The Secret Place

Use that to reach the door, and on the left side of the table, you will find a switch. Activate it, and the bookshelf on the left side of the room will move. Go through there, save your game, and keep following the path ahead. You will then fall down a trap door to where Madame Quail is having a feast.
How To Defeat Duxter

This will lead to a fight against the head chef, Duxter. He has a lot of health and a shield, so some attacks won’t damage him. He can also inflict Fear on your character. A character affected by this status effect cannot attack until the effect wears off.

Fear lasts for two rounds, so you can switch characters. You can also block the attack to resist Fear, but the timing is tricky. Block as Duxter brings his hand up. I recommend using Tinder in this fight, as she can inflict Burn on the enemy. Also, use SP attacks more often, as they deal far more damage than normal ones.
Second Phase

This enemy has a second phase, during which none of your attacks will deal damage. His rush attack will do maximum damage, so you will end up losing the fight, but it is a scripted event, so do not worry.

After losing, Wolfgang and Tinder will be taken away as a sacrifice. You will still be able to play as Flynt and Eva. After a conversation, Pete will drop the Seal Transformation Spell from the sky. You can now transform into a seal; stand on the seal symbol and press the input the game shows you.
How To Find A Path To Escape The Area

Head to the far left side, and you will come across another symbol. Approach the symbol to get back on land. Then head north, go right, and activate the spell again. Inside the boat to the north, you can find a very useful spell for Eva, so make sure to pick it up.
You can also move the boats with the arrow symbols to reach places that seem impossible. The boat at the bottom lets you open a chest to get an Ink Bottle.

There is also a boat south of where you got the spell. Move it to the left side, then jump on it from the wooden platform to reach the other side. Open another chest to get an item, Protective Perfume, and then head through the door on the left.
Defeat The Abomination And Continue Moving Ahead

Follow the path ahead, and you will face an Abomination. Defeat it and continue forward. You will then come across a lever on the southeast side after going into the water. Activate it to open the gate and then head left.
With this, you have successfully escaped the area. Now, you must find the rest of your team and, of course, Sherlock.
How To Find Others

To find the others, head back to Quail Manor, but do not enter it. Head south and follow Duxter’s footprints. Jump down the hole again, and this time go left, as you will be able to transform into a seal to activate the switch. Once done, head back and go up the platform.
Escape Duxter

From there, head left, and eventually Duxter will find you. Since you cannot fight him, this will turn into a chase sequence. Use your Buckler to clear a path, and at the end, make sure to aim your Buckler correctly to activate the switch. This will open the gate.

Go ahead and move the blocks according to the signs on them, but be quick. Ahead will be another closed gate. Quickly move the block and use the Buckler to activate the switch. The rest of the sequence will be fairly simple, and eventually Duxter will fall off a plank.
Enter The Chapel To Get Rid Of Duxter, For Now

Then, save your game, head right, and follow the path north. As you follow the path, Duxter will appear again, so you will automatically enter the chapel. You are now inside Innsbeak Chapel. From here, head left and activate the seal magic.
Save Wolfgang And Tinder

Head further left, and you will find Wolfgang and Tinder locked in a cage. The key will be right next to the case, so pick it up and open it. Then, head left and use Tinder’s flame to unlock the gate. Defeat the enemies inside, and to get the Health Boost item, activate the lever to limit the ground the mouse can travel on. Then, turn the mouse into a bouncing mushroom next to the bookshelf.
Transform The Mouse To Make Progress

After that, get the item and continue. Activate the switch again. Let the mouse go to the right side, and when you reach the stone platform, turn it into a bouncing mushroom. Then jump to reach the upper area and head right. Activate the switch, then jump down and jump to the right side.
Transform into a seal and move the platform to the left side. Once the mouse is on the platform, move it to the right side and go on the ground. Then, as the mouse crosses the stairs, turn it into a mushroom again and jump up. After that, activate the lever on the other side, and the door will be unlocked.
Perform The Ritual

Head inside the door, and you now have to perform a ritual. First, use Blustery Ballad, and then at the top right corner, there will be a sprout. Use Sprout Serenade on it. Then, use Tinder’s flame on the altar and jump into the water. Now, head back, and you will need to play a certain melody.
Open The Path To Inner Sanctum

From left to right inside the chapel, you will see lights reflecting. The sequence will be green, blue, yellow, blue, and green, meaning left, right, down, right, and left. Following this sequence will open the path to the Inner Sanctum. Once inside, follow the path to the left and move the boat to the right.
Then, get back on the ground and follow the path to the left while staying on the ground. Save your game, then fall down the hole. Ahead, you will see Duxter’s heart; this is his weakness, so you can finally defeat him.
Taking Care Of Duxter

You need to prevent the heart from reaching full health, as it heals by three every turn. You can throw the Buckler directly at it to deal damage, and while the heart’s health is low, you will be able to damage Duxter. Even if the heart reaches zero health, it will heal, so you do not need to focus solely on it.

Keep attacking Duxter, and if he inflicts Fear on any of your characters, switch them out. Flaming Fury will be very helpful here, as well as the Buckler’s attacks. Keep switching characters depending on the situation. Also, do not save your SP; use synergy attacks that deal large AoE damage.

I recommend always having Eva on your team, as even if there is another enemy with a shield, she can bypass everyone to hit the target. Once you have defeated him, you will get your books back.
Note: If the heart reaches full health, it will be game over, so make sure not to let it heal completely.
How To Open The Door

After beating Duxter, head right and extinguish the fire with Wolfgang’s ability. You will then be able to move right, but the door will be locked. Burn all of the vines to see which ones you should light up to unlock the door.
Head to the left and stand on the block in front of the first chalice. Light the second chalice, then throw a Buckler to light the third one. Finally, light the last one, and the door will open. Head inside, and you will find yourself in an Ever After Inc. office.
Head Into Madame’s Office

It seems Madame is the manager of this branch. Her office is on the right side, so head there and check her computer. It will be password-protected, so head toward the elevator and destroy the box on the right. A mouse will come out; when it reaches the left side, turn it into a jumping mushroom.
Jump over to the other side, then go left again to find Pete. After the conversation, you will learn where Sherlock is. Use the elevator to reach the chapel, exit the chapel, and to the right, you will find a Telepager. Use it to head to the manor.
How To Get To The Lighthouse

Once you are at the hotel (you can fast travel to the manor or the docks, and the rest will be simple), go to the top-left corner, where you will see some stairs. Head there and go right. Jump onto the moving platform and move to the left side. Activate the seal spell and move to the right side.

Grow the sprout and go to where the cat is. Choose Eva as the second character and hold the shift button. Then go up, and when you are in the right position, release the button; the cat will be transformed into a pillar. Use that to go left, then head up. Follow the path ahead, and you will reach the cliffs.

From there, keep going forward until you eventually come across Madame Quail. After talking to her, head inside the lighthouse. At the top, inside a chest, you will find an Ink Bottle. Then, open the chest on the right to get the Synergy Charm. After that, head back to Madame and tell her that you are ready.
How To Defeat Cthulhu

Madame will run away after summoning Cthulhu, the ancient god, and you will now have to fight it. This boss has no shield but a lot of HP. It can inflict Poison on you and use some slam attacks. The attacks are not too difficult to dodge.

Cthulhu will gain a buff mid-battle that increases its next hit by +5 for one turn. After the buff, its attacks will deal significantly more damage, so you need to be very careful. After you have taken away most of its health, the boss will teleport you to a different location, starting Phase Two. It will then perform an attack coming from three directions.

That attack can take out a large portion of your health, so make sure to block the attacks. You do not have to block all of them, but learn the timing as you fight the boss. Note that in Cthulhu’s realm, if you attack it, your characters will be inflicted with Fear. Once both characters have been affected, it is time to switch.

Use the alternate characters to continue attacking and defeat the boss. This boss is actually one of the easiest in the game, even easier than The Three Little Pigs. After defeating Cthulhu, Sherlock will appear out of nowhere.
Talk To Sherlock Holmes

It seems Sherlock fell in love with Cthulhu, and both will leave after a short conversation. Your Synergy Meter will be increased by one point. Use the Telepager to return to the real world. Then, you will have a conversation with Mr. Moon and be promoted from Associate to Specialist.
With that, Chapter Two: The Shadow Over Innsbeak in Escape From Ever After is complete.
