Expeditions: Samurai is a roguelike game featuring team-based and turn-based combat. The game also features choice-making mechanics, so your actions will have consequences throughout your journey. We have already covered all of the main quests in the game, which you can check out on the walkthrough hub of the game.

Disclaimer
Expeditions: Samurai is currently available in Early Access, so you can expect to come across some bugs and glitches. Since this is not the final version of the game, there are still issues that need to be ironed out. During our playthrough, we ran into a few bugs, but none of them were game-breaking. That said, you may encounter an issue that could affect your experience. If you would rather wait for a more polished version, it may be worth holding off until the full release. On the other hand, if you are interested in jumping in early and sharing constructive feedback on what could be improved, your input could help the developer make the game even better.

Expeditions: Samurai – Ikigai Walkthrough

Important Note
It is important to know that in Expeditions: Samurai the Ikigai and Thievery and Some Other Crimes quests need to be completed before completing the License to Do Nothing quest. If you talk to Dom Sancho to conclude the quest, both of these side quests will be concluded automatically. So, the best approach is to complete any side quests you have available before completing the License to Do Nothing quest. This way, you can make sure that you do not accidentally miss out on the Ikigai and Thievery and Some Other Crimes quests by progressing too far in the main questline.
This quest will start when you talk to Julia Ota, who will be on the left side outside of the church. You need to agree to help her to start this quest. The church is in the Nagasaki Market, so if you do not know where it is, do not worry; the game will eventually take you there.
Once you have done that, you need to head all the way to the south side. Do note that you cannot use the set destination mechanic, as that will not work unless you have a clear-cut route for the area.
So, you will have to travel area by area, which should not take you very long at all. Once you are near the destination, an event called Rapid Plummet will be triggered. Now, for this event, to get the best possible outcome, you need four points in Survival.
So, make sure you have that before going on the journey, as this will allow you to select the first option. Selecting that option will give you the approval of everyone. So, finally, make your way to the Mountain Shrine.
Enter The Mountain Shrine

Once you are there, all you need to do is hold the button shown on the screen to enter the shrine. As you enter the shrine, you will get four objectives, among which two will be optional.
The main objectives will be to incapacitate the Arquebusier Commander and Samurai Commander at the training area. The optional objectives are to keep both of them alive.
Take Down the Arquebusier Commander

So, first, go ahead and take care of some enemies. We used Kage to take out some enemies who were out in the open. The first enemy will be right ahead, so using a ranged character, take them out. Once done, go ahead and keep taking out the enemies without engaging in a direct fight.
We managed to clear out quite a lot of enemies this way with Kage. So, stealthily defeat them and make sure not to leave the area. If you leave the area, you will have to clear it again. So, now, head right and take down a few more enemies.
Make sure not to alert them and take them down before they know you are there. Though, do note that right next to the exit area, you will find a chest. Loot that chest and then head right. You can either go left or right, as both are areas you will eventually need to go to.
Keep Making Your Way Ahead

As you are heading to the right side while taking out the enemies, on the far right side, ahead of the gong, you will see a chest. Loot the chest and then head up the stairs.
Make sure to stay close to the wall ahead, as there are going to be a few enemies who can spot you. Ahead is also going to be the shrine, and the commander is right there. So, take down a couple of enemies before starting the fight.
Once done, start the fight and, using your ranged weapons, take down a couple more enemies. Then, on the next turn, you should be able to defeat the enemy. We managed to defeat the commander in one hit, so he did not survive.
Once you have defeated the commander, it is time to head to the left side of the area. So, go there, and it is time to defeat some more enemies.
Take Down the Samurai Commander

Now, there are going to be a lot of enemies ahead, but if you play strategically, you should be able to defeat them with ease. First, head to the left side and take down the enemy. Then, go back into the bushes on the left side and hide there. If the other enemies notice the person going down, they will come to investigate.
Even if only one person comes, take them down. Then, head to the right side, and you will see an oil barrel. Either destroy the oil barrel or take down the person nearby. Once you have defeated all of them in this area, go ahead a little and take down the one at the top.
He is going to be the Samurai Commander, and if you shoot him, he is likely to survive. Then, make sure to take out the enemies on the right side as well. We managed to do this without engaging in a direct fight with them, and you can do that too. However, you need to remain in cover, and even if the enemy has almost spotted you, you can still shoot them.
We did manage to incapacitate this commander, but the game was not giving us any other option besides killing him. We could not really pick him up and carry him to the exit, even though that is one of the main objectives. So, in the end, we had to kill him too.
Also, there is going to be a chest on the left side, so make sure you loot that as well.
Carry Both Targets to the Exit

So, once you have defeated both commanders, you need to carry their bodies to the exit, which is in the middle of this area. Now, before you exit the area, you need to make sure you loot all of the bodies, as there is going to be a lot of valuable loot that you will miss out on if you ignore the bodies.
Once you have looted the bodies and carried both targets to the exit, head over to the exit. When you are there, use your two characters to carry the bodies and then leave the area.
Report Back to Julia Ota by the Church in Nagasaki Market

Now, you do not have to manually travel all the way back, as you have a proper route available. You can use the set destination mechanic to go there quickly. That said, you may face some events as you travel. So, if you have the necessary points in the required skill for an event, then and only then should you complete that event.
Though, if you get the option of taking someone else with you who you think has enough points in the required skill, you will be able to complete that event as well. So, once you reach the Nagasaki Market, head to the church and talk to Julia, who will be on the left side outside the church.
Then, tell her that the commanders have been dealt with, and she will give you 1,000 mon as a reward. With that, the quest, Ikigai, comes to an end in Expeditions: Samurai.
Expeditions: Samurai – Thievery And Some Other Crimes Walkthrough

Once you have the Ikigai quest, you will need to progress through some of the License to Do Nothing quest in order to trigger Thievery and Some Other Crimes. So, once the quest is triggered, you need to find Tanaka along the roads northwest of Kurogawa.
Once the quest triggers, you will be pretty close to where Tanaka is. You simply have to go to the ambush site and then enter. Select your best characters and then talk to Tanaka, who will be on the north side.
Upon talking to him, he will ask why you are here, so there will be three options to choose from. We went with the second option. Tanaka is also here for Jiro, so when given more options, choose the last one.
Find and Examine the Evidence Left Behind After the Bandit Attack

Now you need to find three pieces of evidence to progress further.
First Evidence – Awareness Skill Check (Medium)

So, you need to examine the broken cart right ahead. However, you will need medium Awareness to do that. We selected Rania to come with us, and she had seven points in Awareness. So, using her to pass the Awareness check, we were successful.
Second Evidence – Skullduggery Skill Check (Medium)

Once you have done that, go ahead along the path, and you will see that there are three ways you can go. The left one is blocked, so go ahead from the middle one. Up there, you will find a body and a statue.
That statue can be examined, but you need medium Skullduggery skill. When it says medium, it means that you need seven points in that particular skill. So, in our case, two of our characters had enough points, so we were successful.
Third Evidence – Survival Skill Check (Medium)

Now, head back to the path where you can see the paths splitting. Opposite the torii gate path, you will see a rough staircase. So, head up from there, and now you will need seven points in Survival to examine the last clue. Fortunately for us, Rania had enough points, so this was also successful.
Note: If your characters do not have enough points, then you can simply add points to the particular skills. If you have used the skill points of all your main team members, you can use a different team where the skill points are still untouched.
After you are done examining the evidence, you will get two objectives. You can either tell Tanaka that you have discovered useful information or you can simply choose not to. You have both options, and we recommend telling him, as in our playthrough, we did the same.
Tell Tanaka About Your Discovery
Upon talking to him, select the first option, and then you will get your new objective.
Search Up the Coast for Signs of a Stolen European Ship

Now what you need to do is head out of the area and go left to the Derelict Carrack. Head there and enter with your most capable teammates. Once you enter, you will have to check in with Tanaka, who is right ahead. So, go there and talk to him.
Help Tanaka Defeat The Enemies

As the conversation starts, choose the third option and then follow up with the first one. Then, Tanaka will rush in at the enemies and try to take them on. You need to go behind him and defeat the enemies that are present there. There are not going to be a lot of them, but still, be careful. Defeat them all and then move ahead.
From the ship, go ahead while going up the ladder, and then you will find more enemies. We did not engage in a direct fight with them. Instead, we managed to defeat them with the help of long-range weapons.
So, do the same and keep going ahead. Now, try to lessen the number of enemies, and once done, head up the vines and defeat some more enemies. You can defeat them without taking aggro, but our game glitched and we could not attack them.

So, we had to fight them normally. One of the objectives is going to be to defeat Jiro, but that will be optional.
Note: Make sure to loot every single thing in the area. There are going to be some chests, so make sure you open them. In RPGs, exploration is the key, so do not worry about spending a lot of time exploring. The bodies also contain a lot of loot, so make sure you get that too.
Retrieve Your Stolen Rutters

Now you need to retrieve your stolen rutters, which will be in the ship where you can see a hole in the middle. Head down there using the ladder and open the chest. With that, the quest, Thievery and Some Other Crimes, will be over in Expeditions: Samurai.
Hopefully, our guide managed to help you with completing either of the quests.
