Welcome to the Into Indie Games walkthrough of Expeditions: Samurai, quest number 2, Let Fall Our Anchor.
Expeditions: Samurai is a team-based RPG featuring a turn-based combat system. In this game, your choices matter a lot because they have lasting consequences. For more information, check out its Steam page.
As the game features turn-based combat and meaningful choices, it can be quite challenging at many points. You will constantly have to make decisions as you progress, so figuring out which option is the right one can be tricky. In this guide, we will provide you with a complete walkthrough of the second quest in the game, Let Fall Our Anchor.
Disclaimer
Expeditions: Samurai is currently available in Early Access, so you can expect to come across some bugs and glitches. Since this is not the final version of the game, there are still issues that need to be ironed out. During our playthrough, we ran into a few bugs, but none of them were game-breaking. That said, you may encounter an issue that could affect your experience. If you would rather wait for a more polished version, it may be worth holding off until the full release. On the other hand, if you are interested in jumping in early and sharing constructive feedback on what could be improved, your input could help the developer make the game even better.

After you finish the Perils in the Sea quest, the next quest will begin immediately, and you will find yourself stranded on an island. As the quest starts, your first objective will be to regroup on the beach.
A conversation will then be triggered, and when you get to choose an option, go with the first one. Both options are perfectly fine, but the first one feels more natural. The discussion will then shift to the need for a new captain, and the group will ask you to take on the role.
There will be three options available. Select the second one, and when they insist on you becoming the captain, you can either agree or choose the second option again. We went with the second option, but it does not matter because you will end up becoming the captain either way.
Once that is done, you will receive two new objectives.
Level Up A Skill And Unlock A Perk
You now need to level up at least one of your characters’ skills and unlock a perk. It can be done with either character since both are now part of your team. Open the options menu and head into the Skills window, where you will have four available points. Spend a point in any skill, and one part of your objective will be completed.
After that, move to the Class window and open the Perks tab. Unlock whichever perk you prefer. We went with the Opportunist perk because it seems very beneficial during combat. In the Skills tab, we invested all of our points into Persuasion, and we recommend you do the same because it will help you in the near future.
After completing those objectives, talk with the others, and the next set of objectives will begin.
Clear The Brambles Blocking The Path Off The Beach

Simply head over to the blocked path, and you should be able to clear the brambles. If you cannot do it with your current character, switching to another one works better, but you should have no trouble clearing the path. Once that is done, your next objective will be to meet the soldiers gathered by the bridge leading to the village.
Proceed along the path ahead, and you will eventually reach the bridge. As soon as you arrive, a conversation with Tanaka Takayuki will begin. Choose the second option when you are given a choice, as most of your teammates will approve of it.
Select the second option once again. After that, you can choose any response you like, and when Tanaka asks about taking the weapons, we went with the second option. Once the conversation is over, you will receive several new objectives to complete.
Completing The Objectives
Before crossing the bridge, talk to Jiro. He will be standing on the left side of the area before the bridge. Speaking with him will unlock a new objective. You can either recover the equipment from the manor or simply seek permission from O-matsu to pursue the bandits and claim their weapons.
Getting Hands On The Food

To begin these objectives, simply cross the bridge. Right after crossing, you will find a man named Yohei. Talk to him and then select the third option, which requires passing a Persuasion check. This is why we recommended investing all of your points into this skill, as this dialogue option requires seven points in Persuasion.
Choose that option, and he will reward you with 10 fish. You then need to speak with Zeilmaker, which means heading back to the camp. You can also speak with Tanaka O-matsu while you are there, but it is better to wait a little before doing so. Talk to Zeilmaker first, then continue with the dinner.
Put Your Dead To Rest

Once the night has passed, speak with Etienne to begin laying the dead to rest. After that, leave him alone because the preparations will take an entire day. This is now the perfect time to speak with O-matsu. When the conversation begins, select the second option, followed by the first option.
Find The Bandits
Your next task is to locate the bandits hiding in the forest outside Kurokawa. Cross the bridge and head up the stairs to the left of Yohei, the same person who gave you the fish. Continue forward and then take the path to the right. Keep following it until you reach the edge of the village.
The guards will not stop you because you already have permission from O-matsu. Leave the area from there and enter the forest.
Kill The Outlaws And Take Their Equipment

Your objective is now to eliminate the outlaws and recover their equipment. Move forward, cross the bridge while remaining stealthy, and quietly take down the first outlaw. Do this when the other bandit is standing on the right side. Loot his body to obtain a Katana, and make sure to equip it.
Move forward again when the second outlaw walks to the right side, then take him down as well. Loot his body to obtain the Accurate Tanegashima. After that, open the chest on the right to collect the Mace & Rodela, Wooden Head, Firearm Stock, and Gun Barrel.
Make sure to pick up everything. Also, remember to equip all of the weapons. Do not equip them only on your main character. You will have enough gear to arm three of your characters, with two using melee weapons and one using a ranged weapon. Once you are finished, head back a little and then cross the bridge.
Continue moving forward, and you will eventually reach a door that needs to be destroyed.
Defeat More Outlaws

Your next task is to destroy the door ahead, which will immediately trigger a battle against more outlaws. The mace is incredibly powerful, so you can use it to one-shot both enemies standing ahead, just as we did. After that, destroy the next door to gain access to the remaining two enemies.
However, do not rush toward them because one of them is armed with a spear while the other carries a gun. Both of them can be very dangerous. Instead, allow them to move closer to your group before taking them down. You should be able to defeat them without much trouble since three of your characters will now be armed, with two using melee weapons and one using a ranged weapon.

After defeating all of them, make sure to loot every body. One of the enemies will be carrying the Kurokawa Forest House Key, which may come in handy later. Collect everything you find, including all of the items inside the chest.
Return To The Village

After successfully defeating the bandits, it is finally time to return to the village. Continue along the path and make your way back to the camp. Speak with Etienne and ask him to arrange the funeral, then select the Bury option. After that, you will need to hold a memorial for the fallen and say a few words.
Choose any dialogue option except “Nope,” and another night will pass. With that, you will have completed all of your assigned objectives.
As the next day begins, the Judge Commander of the Jesuit Order will approach you for a conversation. He intends to take you to Nagasaki, where you will be tried in court and hanged for piracy. At this point, you will have three dialogue options to choose from.
Select either the second or the third option, and Takayuki will step in to save you. When you are presented with another set of choices, pick the last option. After your conversation with Takayuki begins, select the first option. Finally, when speaking with El Gato, choose the second option.
With that, the Let Fall Our Anchor quest concludes in Expeditions: Samurai.
