FAR: Changing Tides Walkthrough – Part 9: The Cliff and Underwater

Part 9: The Cliff and Underwater

When your ship reaches the cliff face and can go no further, get out of the ship and onto the top. Head to the front of the ship and climb the ladder on the cliff.

Climb it all the way up to the top, where you’ll find a crane. We don’t have to use the crane just yet, so proceed to the right and through the door here to enter the interior of the cliff building.

Go right and climb the ladder here. Continue climbing until you reach the suspended ballast tank (it is half full of water).

There’s a hose to the left of the tank – switch the hose control to the left so that it’s sucking and take the hose to the blue pipe opening on top of the ballast tank.

This will empty the tank and take you upwards. Climb the ladder to the right here.

Once at the top of the building, pull the lever to the right until everything is in place.

Return to the ballast tank, jump onto it, and jump to press the button that is now in pressing distance. You will get a new core for your ship.

You now have to deliver this core to the ship. With the hose still attached, return to the hose control and start flooding the hose with water, so that the ballast tank gets full and starts descending.

Once the tank has reached the lowest level possible (ground level, so to speak), head out of the building and back to the crane.

Press the button on the back of the crane beam to have it face the building and away from the sea. Drag the hook on the crane all the way into the building and attach it to the new ship core.

Return to the crane and press the button on it to pull the core in and turn the crane around. Use the lever to make the hook descend all the way into the ship.

Pick up the repair tool lying around near the crane and jump down onto the ship.

Jump onto the new core and stand on it to install it into the ship.

You’ll find that you can now use the hose to control the ship’s ballast tank and go underwater whenever you wish.

Attach the hose to the ballast pipe (just to the left of the hose) and fill the hose up with water (lever to the right). This will cause your ship to descend. Keep descending until the cliff wall ends and you see a passage forwards.

Note that while underwater, your ship can only go forwards by steam power. Start the steam engine and proceed rightwards, breaking through the wooden obstacle.

Keep going until you see a black beam blocking your way. Return to the hose and use the lever to empty the ballast tank a little bit, so your ship can rise above the beam and continue moving forward.

Remember to keep collecting flammable material as you go!

Continue going right, adjusting your ballast tank as necessary to go up or down in the water.

Proceed until you’re stopped by a giant, circular, underwater door.
