The Hina Doll Puzzle Solution

The chapter begins with Mio and Mayu in the Hina Doll Room. You’ll get the Butterfly Diary 1 and the Photo: Warped Twin in your inventory. Collect the Prayer Bead on the ground nearby and go to Mio standing in front of the doll display.
Grab the item on the ground near the display to find Photo: Hina Doll Room and Hina Doll Head.

Interact with the doll display to attach the Hina Doll Head to one of the dolls automatically. Now you need to arrange the Hina Dolls in the correct order as shown in the Photo: Hina Doll Room.

Check the image above for the correct arrangement.

Point your camera at the display and switch to the Exposure Filter. Then snap a photo once the frame starts glowing yellow.

The box in the middle of the display opens, and inside, you find the Double Diamond Key. It opens the door on the right past the Entrance of the house. You passed by it earlier when you first entered the Kurosawa House.
Unlocking the Double Door Key

Start walking to the First Floor with Mayu. However, as you try to get past the Flickering Room, a Wraith comes out of the large red box in the middle.

You can save your progress in the Guest Room using the Butterfly Lantern.

You’ll also find the Folklorist’s Note 15 and the Kurosawa House Map on a table left to the Butterfly Lantern.

Continue moving toward the Kurosawa House Entrance on the first floor. You’ll spot a Spirit you can photograph as it heads into the Master’s Chamber.

There’s another one behind you as you head down the Courtyard Staircase.

A cutscene will trigger once you enter the Main Hall with Mayu. Keep moving toward the Entrance when it ends.

You’ll have to fight off two Wraiths in the Dirt Passageway.

Take them down and keep moving forward until you reach the Double Diamond Door. It’ll open now that you have the key.
Unlocking the Radiant Filter

You can photograph a Spirit walking up the stairs as you enter the Storage Room.

The main path lies through the door next to the samurai armor. But before we head through, we’ll check out the upper room.
Head up the stairs after picking up a Prayer Bead near the samurai armor and a Herbal Medicine from the broken grandfather clock.

This brings you to the Kurosawa House Partition Screen Room. You can photograph the Spirit of a boy looking down at something as soon as you reach the house, but you’ll have to be quick.

Go see what the boy’s Spirit was looking at to find a ball with bloodied handprints. You may have noticed similar bloodied drawers in different places, each with its own healthbar. We’ll unlock the way to open these drawers soon enough.

There’s also a door here with bloodied handprints all over it.

Go around the partition on the right side of the room to some Type-90 Films. There’s another item below the partition near the stairs. Pick it up to collect the Ritual Host’s Note 3.

Head back downstairs and open the door next to the samurai armor. Quickly snap a photograph of the Spirit of the peeping boy before it disappears. You’re not at the Kurosawa House Cloth Hallway.
You’ll find a Prayer Bead in the hiding spot on your left. Pick it up and then continue moving forward along the hallway.

You’ll get another photograph opportunity for a Spirit as you reach a double door with blood on it.

Up ahead, you’ll have to fight two more Wraiths at the same time near the Kurosawa House Kitchen.

Take down the Wraiths and head into the Kitchen. There’s a Stone Mirror in one of the broken jars and a Herbal Medicine on the counter. More importantly, you’ll see a hiding spot here.

Keep moving forward along the Cloth Hallway till you reach the door at the end. As soon as you open it, you’ll see the Kusabi on the other side.

Quickly run back to the hiding spot in the Kitchen to lose the Kusabi. It’s safe to come out when the screen goes back to normal and the fog disappears.

Go back to the door where the Kusabi started chasing you and head inside. You’ve arrived at the Storehouse. Quickly snap a photo of the Storehouse Investigator Spirit.

There’s a Butterfly Lantern in this room. Use it to save your progress. Then pick up the Ritual Host’s Note 4 and the Type-00 Film before heading through the door on your right.

Check the lock on the jail cell. Mio will notice that one of the locks matches the Bookshelf Key you found in the Master’s Chamber.

You’ll spot a Spirit on the other side of the jail cell. There’s an item on the floor next to him that you can reach. Pick it up to collect the Radiant Filter Memo and unlock the final filter.
The Radiant Filter has a special effect that lets you perform the Unbinding of Blood. This ability lets you remove the bloodstains and bloodied fingerprints from objects, doors, or drawers.

There’s a bloodstained drawer just outside in the Storehouse. Use the Radiant Filter to remove the bloodstains and unlock the drawer. You’ll find the Butterfly Diary 2 inside it.
Unlocking the Shortcut to the Master’s Chamber

Return to the Cloth Hallway and start walking back to the Partition Room. Note that there’s a door leading right from the Storehouse. This takes you outside, but you’ll have to find a key to unlock the door at the end.
There’s no point heading along this path for now, apart from a few Wraith fights.

You’ll see a Spirit entering through the door with bloodied handprints in the Cloth Hallway.

While you’re here, use the Radiant Filter to remove the bloodstains and unlock the door. But don’t go in just yet.

Instead, continue following the Cloth Hallway to the Storage Room and use the stairs to head up to the Partition Room.

Use the Radiant Filter to remove the bloodstain from the ball that the boy’s Spirit was looking at to dislodge it. It’ll fall to the lower floor of the Storage Room.

Go downstairs to pick up a Type-00 Film.

Go back upstairs and remove the bloodstains from the door. Open it to unlock a shortcut back to the Master’s Chamber. We’ll have to return here later.
Obtaining the 5 Ritual Tomes

The next part of the chapter requires you to find two keys (Light and Shadow) along with 5 Ritual Tomes to unlock the jail cell in the Storehouse. The first Ritual Tome, the Taboo Tome, will already be on the Buddha Statue Bookshelf at the Master’s Chamber, so you’ll have to find four more.
Start by heading back to the bloodstained door you unsealed back in the Cloth Hallway. Head through to enter the Ritual Room.
You’ll be able to photograph a Spirit here as soon as you enter through the door.

Walk up to where the Spirit was before it disappeared to pick up the Crimson Wing Tome. You’re now at the Kurosawa House Altar Room. Take a good look around this place. There are some useful items hidden here that you can pick up.

Don’t go into this section near the entrance door for the item. This will push you to the next bit, but there are a few things here you’ll want to wrap up before you move on.

There’s a Glowing Red Crystal on the right side of the room, and a Prayer Bead hidden in a section behind the lanterns.

When you’re ready, head up the stairs on the right side of the Altar Room.

You’ll find the Disaster Tome under a table at the top. Pick it up.

When you go to pick up the Disaster Tome, the pressure plate floor with the butterfly symbol activates, opening a door on the other side of the room. Mayu notices this and volunteers to stand at the pressure plate for you.

Go to the lower section of the Altar Room and head left to spot another staircase leading up. This will take you to the door that the pressure plate unlocks. Head through the opening.

Keep moving forward to spot the Twin Tome. Pick it up.

As soon as you do so, turn left to peer into the Master’s Chamber, where you can catch two Spirits in conversation. You can take three photographs here: one of each Spirit and one of them talking with each other.
You’ll also spot an item on the floor near one of the Spirits. This is the Final Tome.

With that done, return to the Altar Room through the hidden passageway. You’ll see Mayu getting attacked by a Wraith on the other side. If you’ve got the Zoom upgrade unlocked, you can take it out from your side.
After rescuing Mayu, make your way back to the Master’s Chamber via the Partition Screen Room shortcut.

You’ll find the Ritual Host’s Note 2 on the Buddha Statue Bookshelf and the Martyr’s Tome on the ground. Pick up both.
Obtaining the Light Key

Since you’re already here, you can pick up the Light Key right now. It’s held by the Buddha Statue at the bookshelf. But to dislodge it you need to solve a puzzle.

Now that you have the 5 Ritual Tomes, Mio will put them on the bookshelf. However, you need to figure out the correct order.

The text shown when you interact with the bookshelf is the key to solving the puzzle. Note that there are 5 words highlighted in red in the text. Butterfly’s, Sacrifice, blank, Kusabi, and Repent.
You need to check the text of each book and see which book each word refers to. The correct order of books to solve the puzzle is:
Crimson Wing | Twin | Taboo | Martyr | Disaster

The Light Key will fall from the Buddha Statue’s hand, and you can pick it up.
Obtaining the Shadow Key

Return to the Altar Room, and go to the passage that we saw but didn’t enter earlier. Before heading in, go into the passage on the right to pick up Ritual Host’s Note 1.
Then go into the passage on the left. As you head in, Mayu will enter the passage on the other side.

Pick up the Butterfly Diary 3 from the ground and go through the door that opens up.

You’ll spot a hiding spot as you go down a set of stairs. You’ll need it later.

Keep walking forward. There’s nothing else to do here.

You’ll see Mayu on the other side at the end of the passage. Step on the pressure plate to open the door in front of you.

Head through the door to find a Butterfly Lantern to save your progress. Head through the large double door up ahead to enter the Kurosawa House Lattice Room.

You’ll find the Ritual Host’s Note 5 on the altar in the middle of the room. Pick it up.

Then walk to the other side of the altar and use the Radiant Filter to remove the bloodstain from the small box.

The box will open, and you’ll have the Shadow Key in your possession.
Opening the Jail Cell

After picking up the second key, turn around to see Mayu leaning against a large door in despair. Hold her hand to guide her forward.

Start making your way back to the Altar Room. You could take the passage that Mayu took instead of the one that you came through. Regardless of your choice, you’ll see the Kusabi blocking your path.

When you spot the Kusabi, quickly run back, while holding Mayu’s hand, and use the other passageway to keep moving. You’ll see a hiding spot as you get near the Altar Room, where you can wait out the Kusabi.

When it’s safe to come out, go back to the Altar Room and start making your way toward the Storehouse. Interact with the cell door to open it using both keys and head in.

You’ll find the Osaka House Map and the Mallet Key on the small table, along with the Photo: Altar Room. Pick them up.

Go to the back to find a Spirit you can photograph between the shelves. Check all the items in the shelves.

You’ll find three Folklorist’s Notes (17, 18 & 19), some Type-61 Films, and a Prayer Bead on the ground. Pick them up and exit the jail cell.

This will trigger a cutscene as Mayu gets trapped inside. This marks the beginning of the next chapter.
