Kiryu House Back Entrance & Projection Room

The chapter starts with Mio at the large staircase near the Tomonaki Gate. Go up to the Butterfly Lantern and save your progress. You’ll see Mayu’s Vanishing Trace walking along the path.

Follow it, and it’ll lead you to the locked door of Kiryu House – Front.

At that point, a Crimson Butterfly will spawn, guiding you to the back entrance of the Kiryu House, near the Butterfly Lantern. Head through the door.

This takes you to the Kiryu House Sliding Screen Room. There’s a locked door on the left side of the room. Pick up Mayu’s Charm 5 from the floor near the staircase and then head up.

You’ll spot a door on the left when you reach the top. Open the door to see Mayu’s Trace walking across the Heavenly Bridge to the room on the other side. The door closes behind her.

Head toward the door. It’s stuck and won’t open. Return to the stairwell the way you came.

But as you open the door, you get ambushed by a Wraith. Fighting the Wraith in such a tight area can be hard. Once it’s defeated, you can move on.
Head into the stairwell and turn left to spot a Spirit you can photograph.

Once it’s gone, follow the passageway to reach the room on the left. Go around the room collecting all the items here. You’ll find some Films (Type-14, Type-90 & Type-61), a Prayer Bead, and the Folklorist’s Note 1.

There’s a Revenant (Man in Study) near the table that you can photograph. Doing so gives you the Folklorist’s Note 12.

There’s another door if you follow the passageway, but it’s locked.

Return downstairs to the Sliding Screen Room, and you’ll spot a Spirit heading into the locked room you saw on the lower floor.

The door opens, and you can now access the Projection Room. You’ll see the Spirit once again, standing near the projector.
Pick up the item on the ground to collect the Photo: Minakami Bridge.

On the left side of the room, you’ll find the Film Reel 1 and a Prayer Bead.

Interact with the projector. You can view all the Film Reels you’ve collected here. The Film Reel 8 is already inside the projector.

The Film Reel 8 will show you the location of the Kiryu House Key in the Cemetery across a suspension bridge.

There’s another locked door in the Projection Room. When you’re ready, head out of the Kiryu House and save your progress at the Butterfly Lantern. We’re about to head back to the Misono Hill.
Unlocking the Kiryu House Front Door

To unlock the Kiryu House front entrance, you’ll have to first find the Kiryu House Key. The Film Reel 8 showed us that it’s located in the Cemetery past the suspension bridge, past Misono Hill. So that’s where we’re headed next.
You can reach the Misono Hill via the dirt path next to the Osaka House – Front.

As you reach the top of the hill, there will be three Veiled Priest Wraiths in the area with the altar.
You can fight them if you want. But sneaking by is also an option. You need to get to the lit path on the other side. We’ve marked the exit in the image above.

When you reach the other side, continue forward till you reach a chasm. You’ll see a Spirit on the other side of the chasm and a Sacred Water on the ground near you.

Use the Exposure Filter to take a picture and reveal the Minakami Bridge.

Go across the bridge to reach the Minakami Cemetery. There’s a Butterfly Lantern as you cross the bridge that you can use to save your progress.

The Cemetery has a winding path, but there are no Wraiths here at the moment. So go around the area collecting all the items scattered around.

You’ll be able to photograph two Spirits here. On the right side of the path, you’ll see the Spirit of a Man Inspecting Cemetery. On the left, you’ll find a Spirit of a Man Hiding Key.

Once you’ve gathered everything, crouch under the fallen tree at the far left corner of the Cemetery.

Take a few steps forward to find the area where you saw the Man Hiding Key Spirit. There’s a key on the tombstone next to a doll. Pick it up to collect the Kiryu House Key.
Going Back to Kiryu House

Collecting the Kiryu House Key is just one part of the puzzle. You still have to get back to Kiryu House to head in. But now there are two Mourner Wraiths patrolling the area.
Luckily, they are blind, and you can easily sneak past them if you move quietly.

There’s one more Mourner across the Minakami Bridge, blocking your path. Take it out or just run past it.
If you haven’t defeated the Veiled Priests in the altar area of Misono Hill, you’ll have to sneak by or fight them again.

When you reach the Osaka-Tachibana Path, you’ll see three Wraiths patrolling the road. Use the ruined house on the right to hide from them.

Once you get past this group, you can head straight for the Kiryu House – Front and use the Kiryu House Key to head inside.
Finding the Earthly Bridge

When you head inside the Kiryu House, you’ll see the Spirit of the Girl Clad in Butterflies. Take a picture. This Spirit will help us progress through this zone. You’ll also get the objective to find the Earthly Bridge.
Head toward where you saw the Spirit to find a Prayer Bead next to a jar.

The door straight ahead from the entrance leads to the Altar Room. Head inside.

You can find a Stone Mirror on the table, and a Type-00 Film inside the box. There’s also a Twin Doll here.

There’s a door leading out from the Altar Room, but it’s locked for now.

Return to the Entrance and take the passageway on the right from the main door. You’ll find Mayu’s Charm 6 on the ground in the passageway.

You can catch a photograph of a Peering Doll Spirit through a hole in the wall.

You’ll spot two doors up ahead. The right door leads to a small storeroom where you’ll find a Prayer Bead. Go through the door on the left to enter the Hanging Doll Room.

There’s a box here containing a Lunar Incense. You can also pick up some Type-14 Films inside a cabinet. Head towards the door at the other end of the room. It’ll close on its own.

Open the door and head through to enter the Tatami Room Hallway. Photograph the Vanishing Twins Spirits quickly when you open the door.

The first door on the left has bloodstains on it that you can remove using the Radiant Filter. This leads back to the Altar Room. The second door on the left is locked.

Head into the section on the right. There’s a bloodstained jar containing a Prayer Bead and some Type-90 Films you can collect.

Move along the Tatami Hallway, and you’ll spot another locked door on the left.

The partitioned section in the center with the Butterfly Lantern is called the Tatami Lounge. Save your progress at the Butterfly.

You’ll see another Spirit looking at you through the window on your right as you approach the Butterfly Lantern.

Keep moving along the Tatami Hallway till you reach a fork. There’s a door on the left and one on the right. The left door is locked for now.

As you approach the right side door, you’ll spot a Spirit through the barred window. This is the Projection Room that you accessed from the back entrance.

Open the door and head through to reach the Twins’ Room. Snap a picture of the two Spirits as you enter.

Check the drawer where the twins’ Spirits were sitting. You’ll find the Doll Maker’s Note 1 in the left drawer and Violet Diary 2 in the right drawer. There’s also a Prayer Bead in a container at the corner.

There’s another door leading out of the room. Open it and head outside to trigger a cutscene.

When the cutscene ends, you’ll have to fight the Twin Spirit Wraith. They don’t have a lot of health, but they are very fast and can quickly overwhelm you if you don’t watch out.
After taking out one of them, the other will teleport to the fallen Wraith and revive it. It’ll be aggravated when it gets back up.

Once the Twin Spirit is defeated, you can head out of the room to reach the Ombre Hallway. Go right first. You’ll see a Spirit as you turn the corner.
The door straight ahead leads to the Projection Room, but it’s locked. Take the left door to enter the Doll Room.

You’ll spot an item on the box up ahead, between two mannequins. Pick it up to collect the Doll Maker’s Note 3. The note tells you that there’s a passage into the Deep Path past the box.
This is the Earthly Bridge that you’ve been looking for. But to open the passage, you’ll need to get the mechanism working.

Turn around to find the Spirit that you saw when you entered the Kiryu House, standing near a box. Loot the box for Doll Maker’s Note 4.
This note tells you that to get the mechanism working, you’ll have to find the Doll’s Head and Hands.
Obtaining the Left Doll Arm

Go back out to the Ombre Hallway and start walking toward the Twins’ Room. Follow the passage past the door to the Twins’ Room this time. There’s a small section up ahead where you can pick up some Type-14 Film.

Turn right at the end of the passage to spot the Spirit once again. Snap a picture and then run toward her.

You’ll see a small doorless room on the right.

There’s a box inside that contains the Left Doll Arm. Pick it up.
Obtaining the Right Doll Arm

Exit the small room, and the door at the end of the Ombre Hallway will creak open. You’ll see the Spirit on the other side again. Snap a picture quickly and then head inside.

This is the Kiryu House Stairwell – Hallway. You’ll see a bloodstained door up ahead that you can unseal to unlock a shortcut back to the Tatami Lounge Butterfly Lantern.

Look through the hole in the wall to spot a Spirit you can photograph.

Unlock the shortcut and head up the stairs when you’re ready to reach the West Hallway of Kiryu House.

As you take a few steps forward, a Wraith will emerge from the hiding spot on the left. Take it down.

There’s a door on your right near where the Wraith attacked you, but it doesn’t open. Go to the end of the passage.

There’s a path heading left, but we’ll go right for now.

Open the door on your right and head inside to reach the Servant’s Room section.
This area has several small quarters where the Kiryu House servants stayed. Each room has one or two items or notes that you can pick up. Explore each room thoroughly before you move on.

The Servant Quarters – East room will have the Violet Diary 1.

You will find the Film Reel 6 inside a box and a Prayer Bead in a cabinet in the Servant Quarters – North.

The Kiryu House Storeroom connected to Servant Quarters – West has a box containing the Maidservant’s Note.

Enter the Kiryu House Storeroom connected to Servant Quarters – South to find the Spirit once again. Pick up the Doll Maker’s Note 2 and Dolomite next to the Spirit.

Use the Exposure Filter to reveal the hidden chest in the room. This contains the Right Doll Hand.
Obtaining the Doll Head

With both Doll Hands recovered, the only thing left to find is the Doll Head. Start heading back to the West Hallway. But you’ll be ambushed by a Twin Spirit in the Servant’s Quarters – East.

There’ll be another Wraith ambush when you’re about to enter the West Hallway.

When you finally make it to the hallway, head up the steps toward the door.

Instead of heading through the door, go left to the Raised Tatami Room first.

You’ll find a Prayer Bead near the partition screen behind the covered doll. Pick it up and then open the door on the right.

The chest inside will give you the Doll Maker’s Note 5.

As soon as you collect the note, you’ll be ambushed by another Twin Spirit from behind.

Take it down and head back to the door outside the Raised Tatami Room. This takes you to the Atrium Hallway.

Keep moving forward, and you’ll see the Large Storeroom on your right. There’s a chest inside containing the Violet Diary 3.

Exit the storeroom and walk toward the staircase. You’ll spot the Spirit of the girl once again. Follow the Spirit down the staircase to trigger a cutscene.

When it ends, you’ll have to fight a new type of Wraith called the Fallen. Not only are they extremely fast, but they can also disappear and fall from the top on you to grab you.

Loot the chest under the staircase after defeating the Wraith to collect the Doll Head. You’ll also find some Type-90 Films nearby and the Spodumene Spirit Stone at the grandfather clock here.

Head through the door nearby to return to the Tatami Lounge. Remember to save your progress.
Obtaining the Doll’s Soul

Now that you’ve recovered all the Doll Parts, head back to the Doll Room. You don’t have to worry about any enemies along the way.
Interact with the doll on the right to replace the parts. But it still doesn’t work. We’re missing something.

Return to the Ombre Hallway and make your way back toward the Tatami Lounge. You’ll see a Spirit entering the Twins’ Room. Snap a picture and follow it inside.

You’ll get attacked by another Fallen inside the Twins’ Room.

After defeating the Wraith, make your way back to the Altar Room.

Look through the hole in the wall on your right, and you’ll see the Spirit of the Kiryu Clan Father and Daughter.

Once the Spirit disappears, aim your camera at the door through the hole and unseal it using the Radiant Filter.

This will unlock the second door on the left in the Tatami Hallway. Head inside to the Sealed Room.

Pick up the Doll Maker’s Note 7 from the ground and the Doll Manual from the table. Both of these are important. There’s also a Prayer Bead on the floor on the left, under the doll shelf.
The Doll Maker’s Note 7 mentions how the “soul” is important for the contraption to work. On the other hand, the Doll Manual has instructions on how to operate the contraption. You’ll need this to solve a puzzle soon.

Return to the Tatami Hallway and go right toward the Hanging Doll Room. You’ll see a Spirit that you can photograph.

Head inside the Hanging Doll Room and use the Camera Obscura to look at each of the dolls. You’ll find one with bloody handprints on it.

Perform the Unbinding of Blood using the Radiant Filter, and the doll will fall to the ground. Try to pick up the item.

As soon as you do so, you’ll be grabbed by the Wraith of the Doll Maker.

Shake it off. You’ll have to defeat it before you can collect the Glass Eyes. The Doll Maker starts the fight with two floating dolls with him. Take out the floating dolls first.

After this, the fight becomes pretty straightforward. Just keep shooting pictures and dodging its attacks until it’s beaten.

Interact with the doll that you dropped earlier to collect the Glass Eyes. This is the “soul” that we’ve been looking for.
Getting Back on Mayu’s Trail

Save your progress at the Tatami Lounge and then make your way back to the Doll Room. Interact with the doll on the right to insert the Glass Eyes. This will activate the mechanism.
Now you need to solve a simple puzzle. The Doll Manual note explains it perfectly.

Simply put, you need to align the dolls so that the two of them face each other. There are two buttons that you can interact with.
- The left button rotates the left doll by 3 Notches and the right doll by 1.5 Notches. Both dolls rotate to the left.
- The right button rotates both dolls to the right by 1.5 Notches.
To solve the puzzle, press the right button 2 times and then press the left button 4 times.

This will activate the mechanism, and the box moves out of the way, revealing a ladder heading down.

But before you can do anything, the box drops down, and the two dolls attack you. It’s pretty much the same as any Twin Spirit, but there will be three dolls in total that you have to take down.

Once they’re down, the path opens up again. Pick up the Photo: Facing Twins and head down the ladder.

This takes you to the Deep Path Earthly Bridge. Look behind you to spot an item on the ground. Pick it up to collect the Dimly Glowing Crystal.

Continue along the tunnel. There’s a Prayer Bead you can collect up ahead.

Keep moving forward, and a cutscene will trigger, marking the start of the next chapter.
