Fleeing From the Woman in White

The chapter starts in the Large Storeroom of the Tachibana House. You don’t have your Camera Obscura with you. So you can’t fight any Wraiths or capture any Spirits for the moment.

Make your way forward, past the covered furniture. You’ll spot a Lunar Incense along the way and some Type-14 Films just before the door.

Head through the door to reach the Ombre Hallway. As you take a few steps forward, the Woman in White will appear behind you. It’s the same as the Kusabi, and all you can do is run away. If it catches you, you die instantly.
Run straight for the end of the hallway. There are some doors on the side, but they won’t open, so don’t waste time checking.

At the end of the passage, turn left to see a hiding spot. Hide from the Woman in White until it passes by.

The door on your left opens as the Woman in White disappears. Head through to reach the Stairwell – Hallway. Use the Butterfly Lantern to save your progress.

Now that the Woman in White is gone, you can return to the Ombre Hallway and try opening all the doors. The main doors will not open, but you can access the Windowed Storeroom, where you’ll find a Prayer Bead and a small storeroom with a Lunar Incense.

Return to the Stairwell – Hallway. You’ll find a Lunar Incense on the left past the lantern, inside a jar. The door on the right is locked for now.

Head up the wooden staircase. You’ll catch a glimpse of Mayu at the end of the passage heading left. This is the Tachibana House Hallway.

Follow her to find her standing oddly still. Walk towards her.

She will transform into the Woman in White. The door behind you closes. Quickly run into the room on your left.

Head toward the open door in the small room to spot a hiding spot in the next quarter. Quickly hide and wait for the Woman in White to lose sight of you. You’re now in the Tatami Wing – North. The room you came from was Tatami Wing – North.
Opening the Heavenly Bridge Door

The layout of this zone is similar to the Servant Quarters in the Kiryu House. There are doors leading to different Tatami Wing quarters. But the Woman in White will be patrolling the area, so you need to move carefully.

When it’s safe to come out, try opening the door on the left that leads to Tatami Wing – West. It requires a Butterfly Key. Luckily, the key is in the Storeroom connected to the Tatami Wing – South, on your left.

Carefully make your way to the Storeroom and pick up the Butterfly Key. The Woman in White can come into the room, so you need to be quick.

Open the Butterfly Door and head through to trigger a cutscene.

Once the cutscene ends, go out of the Storeroom in Tatami Wing – East. There are some Type-90 Films in the cabinet and a Prayer Bead on the study table.

You’ll also spot the door leading to the Heavenly Bridge connecting Tachibana House to Kiryu House. But it’s locked. Inspect the mechanism on the right. You’ll need a matching doll to make it work.

The doll in question is located in the Storeroom connected to Tatami Wing – East. But as you exit the Tatami Wing – West, you’ll hear someone banging on the door, followed by a faint whisper.

Head to the Tatami Wing – East and inside the Storeroom. Pick up the Red-Stained Doll above the hiding spot.

The Woman in White will be inside the Tatami Wing – West room at this point. When she starts chasing you, run back and hide somewhere.

She’ll go away eventually. When it’s safe, head to the mechanism beside the door and interact with it. Mio will put the doll in place.

To solve the puzzle, you need to have the two dolls face each other. The solution this time is to press both the left and right buttons three times each.

The door on the left flies open, and you can run out to the Heavenly Bridge. Head across the bridge and through the door to return to Kiryu House.
Retrieving the Camera Obscura

From Kiryu House, the task is simple. Make your way back to the Deep Path Earthly Bridge, where you dropped the Camera Obscura.
You’ll have to follow the Ombre Hallway and head to the Doll Room, where the ladder to the Deep Path is. What makes things tricky is that there are multiple Wraiths that will try to stop you.
For now, you can’t do anything except run past them.

Ignore the Wraiths that chase after you and keep running till you reach the ladder in the Doll Room.

Once you go down the ladder, you’re safe. Keep heading forward, and you’ll see the Camera Obscura lying on the path up ahead.

Take a few steps forward to spot the ladder that will take you back to Tachibana House. But there’s a Mourner guarding it. Take it down, or run past it and use the ladder.

As you’re about to exit the Tachibana House Large Storeroom, a Wraith will ambush you. Take it down and head toward the Starwell – Hallway. Save your progress at the Butterfly Lantern.
Finding Mayu

Head up the stairs to go back to the Hallway. You’ll catch a glimpse of Mayu once again, this time heading right, at the end of the passage. You can snap a picture if you’re quick.

You’ll see a bloodstained door up ahead. You can unseal it using the Radiant Filter. But first lets check out the Raised Tatami Room through the door on the right.

The room is empty, but you’ll find a Prayer Bead in the cabinet and a Lunar Incense inside a jar.

Unseal the door outside and head through. Turn right immediately to spot a Spirit you can photograph.

Continue forward along the passage, and you’ll see Mayu standing inside the room up ahead through the windows.

Try opening the door, but it requires the Bell Key.

When you interact with the door, you’ll hear a sound, and Mio will automatically turn around. You can see the Spirit of a girl wearing a crimson kimono. Snap a picture quickly. She’ll run away soon.

Before running after her, take a few steps past the room where Mayu is kept to find a Butterfly Lantern on the right. Use it to save your progress.
Obtaining the Bell Key

Return to the Hallway. We’re looking for the girl in the crimson kimono. Along the Hallway, you’ll see that one of the screens in the hiding spots is drawn. If you listen closely, you’ll also hear the sound of a bell coming from inside it.

Interact with the hiding spot to trigger a short cutscene. The girl wearing the crimson kimono will run away through the door on the right leading into Tatami Wing – East. Pick up the Crimson Diary 1 she leaves behind and head inside.

You can unseal a bloodstained cabinet on the right as soon as you head inside for a Prayer Bead.

When you’re ready, head into the Tatami Wing – South room to find the girl again. But this time, she lets out a scream, and the world turns dark.

You’ll also start encountering Wraiths when this happens. They will keep spawning until you find the girl again.

Run to the Tatami Wing – West room. You’ll spot her in the attached Storeroom. Snap her picture, and she’ll run away again. The world reverts to normal, and the Wraiths disappear.
Pick up the Crimson Diary 2 she leaves behind.

Return to the Hallway, and you’ll spot her running off again. This time, she heads for the Stairwell – Hallway.

Follow her down the stairs to see her head through the locked door on the right. The door opens behind her. Save your progress at the Butterfly Lantern before heading through.

Go through the door to reach the Tatami Room Hallway. Turn left along the passage to spot her once again, running through the door at the end. Before following her, take some time to explore the nearby rooms.

You’ll find some Type-90 Films in the Tatami Lounge at the feet of a twin mannequin.

There are some more items in the Tatami Side Rooms on the right side of the passage.

When you’re ready, head through the door behind the girl wearing the crimson kimono. This brings you to the Tachibana House Entrance. Pick up the Herbal Medicine on the right, then follow the sound of the bell to the hiding spot up ahead.

Interact with it to find the girl as she turns the world dark once again.

This time, she didn’t make it very far. Turn around and head down the passage through the dark.

Take a left and head into a storeroom.

You’ll find her sitting as you turn right inside the storeroom. Snap a picture, and the world goes back to normal as the girl runs away.

Pick up the Crimson Diary 4. There are also some Type-90 Films you can pick up here. Return to the Tatami Room Hallway.

You’ll see the girl running to the Tatami Lounge as soon as you walk through the door. Follow her.

Grab the Crimson Diary 3 from the hiding spot, along with the Bell Key.
Returning to Mayu

As soon as you grab the items, the girl’s Spirit that you’ve been chasing all this time crawls out of the hiding spot. This time, she’ll be a Wraith (Girl in Crimson) and fight you.

The Girl in Crimson is pretty tanky and can turn the world dark. But it isn’t too difficult. Once you defeat her, open the doors in the Tatami Lounge. We can now return to Mayu, but we’ll take an alternate route.

Exit the Tatami Room through the door on the right and get to the Tatami Room Hallway. Head right to reach a fork. There’s a door on either side. Go through the door on the left first.

This takes you to the Tachibana House Twins’ Room. You’ll find the Bound Diary 2 on the ground. You can also pick up a Prayer Bead and a Type-00 Film in the room.

There’s also a Revenant (Twin Boy) here. Reveal it to pick up an additional Prayer Bead.

The bloodstained door in the room leads back to the Ombre Hallway, where the Woman in White first chased you at the start of the chapter. Unseal it and return to the fork in the Tatami Room Hallway.

Head through the door on the right to reach the Clock Hall.

The staircase here will take you straight to the Butterfly Lantern beside the Bell Door.

But there’s a whole section of the Tachibana House left to explore, which we can do before we rescue Mayu.
Exploring the Tachibana House North

From the Butterfly Lantern, go forward and turn left to spot a door. This leads to the Storeroom – East.

There’s a chest here containing a Prayer Bead and another that gives you the Film Reel 7.

Exit the Storeroom and go through the door further along the passage. This takes you to the North Hallway.

The first room on your left leads to the Tachibana House Closet.

You’ll be able to use the Exposure Filter here to reveal a hidden room where you can pick up a handful of useful items. If you’re following the Seijiro Makabe Side Story, you can further progress it here.

Move along the North Hallway until you reach a small staircase. Head down to reach the Tachibana House Sliding Screen Room.

Turn left at the bottom, and you’ll be able to capture a photograph of the Arms Emerging from Hell.

The door on the right, near the staircase, is stuck. So head through the other door to the Tachibana House Projection Room.

You’ll find Film Reel 4 in the small cloth-covered section inside the room

The bloodstained room here takes you back to the hallway where you got chased by the Woman in White.
Returning to Mayu

We’re done with the Tachibana House for now. Make your way back to the Bell Door and head inside Itsuki’s Room.

But there’s no sign of Mayu inside. Check the table to find the Bound Diary 1.

This triggers a cutscene, and the next chapter begins right after.

Continued after part 2 in Fatal Frame II Remake Walkthrough Chapter 6 – The Remaining.

In the Tachibana House Closet near the North Hallway, you’ll be able to reveal a hidden room using the Exposure Filter.

Enter the room afterward and turn right to spot a Spirit of the Man Investigating Twins. Snap a photograph of it.

Head to the shelf near the Spirit and pick up the item at the top to get attacked by a Wraith. Take it down.

Pick up the item again to collect the Folklorist’s Note 8.
