Catching up to Mayu

As Mayu gets taken away, you’re left to fend for yourself against three Wraiths. Take them down first.

Head back to the Kureha Shrine and save your progress. At this point, you can get the Lonely Road Home Ending if you simply head to the back of the altar and head through the secret door. But this is considered a Game Over and not an official ending.

Exit the Kureha Shrine and head down the stairs toward the village. You’ll see the Spirit of the Siblings Heading to the Old Tree.

At the bottom of the stairs, turn left to spot a Crimson Butterfly up ahead, guiding you toward Mayu.

Follow the Crimson Butterfly all the way back to the Whispering Bridge. Head across the bridge to trigger a cutscene.
The Kurosawa House Ritual

After the cutscene, continue heading toward the Kurosawa House. You’ll find the Butterfly Diary 4 across the bridge, just before the gate leading to the Grounds.

Open the gates and head through to see a trace of Mayu heading into the house. Follow her.

You’ll find Mayu’s Charm 7 on the floor as you enter the house.

Mayu’s Trace will lead you to the Ritual Room. As you head inside, you’ll see Mayu’s Trace once again, heading to the Connecting Corridor.

Pick up the Butterfly Diary 11 near the altar and then make your way through the passageway to the Connecting Corridor.

You’ll see the Spirit of the Priest Welcoming Shrine Maiden as you enter the passageway.

Pick up the Crysocolla Spirit Stone from the ground as you enter the corridor.

Run all the way to the end of the passage to see the Spirit of Yae Heading to Ritual. Step on the pressure plate to open the door and head inside.

Save your progress and enter through the double door to trigger a cutscene.

When the cutscene ends, you’ll be attacked by the Veiled Priests and the Kurosawa Patriarch. The Patriarch is the main threat in this fight. If you manage to take it down, the Veiled Priests will disappear.

When you manage to take down the HP of the Patriarch once, it will enter its Aggravated form. It will jump to the rafters while the room fills with Veiled Priests again.

Hit the boss with a Special Shot at the rafters to bring it down. Then take it down once and for all.

Pick up the Chrysocolla 2 Spirit Stone from the table.

A door opens in the room. Head through it and down the stairs.

Run all the way to the end of the passage to spot another door. This will take you to the Deep Path Tunnels.
Deep Path Tunnels

Continue along the tunnel, and you’ll find Mayu’s Charm 8 on the ground along the path. Pick it up and continue forward.

At the fork, turn right to spot a blocked-off path. You can use the Exposure Filter to reveal a path through the rocks. This leads to a small section where you can loot some useful items.

You’ll also get ambushed by a Wraith here when you’re about to pick up a Type-00 Film.

When you’re ready, continue moving forward through the tunnel.

At the next fork, you’ll spot a bloodstained chest on the left that you can open using the Radiant Filter for a Prayer Bead.

Keep moving along the tunnel. Eventually, you’ll have to get past a Mourner. You can just run past it if you want to save your ammo.

There will be one more Mourner up ahead. Again, you can run past it.

Soon you’ll reach a Butterfly Lantern as you go down a set of stairs. Save your progress here.

Moving along, the tremors will cause some rocks to break up ahead. Crawl past the rubble.

Keep making your way forward, and eventually you’ll reach the Ritual Altar filled with candles.

Walk to the center to see the Spirit of Twins by Ritual.

Head through the torii gate on the other side of the room and down the set of stairs to trigger a cutscene.

You now have to fight the Kusabi that was chasing you all over Kurosawa House. Since you’ve got the Hell Exorcism unlocked, you can actually damage it this time.

It’s not a very difficult fight. Just make sure you don’t get hit by the projectiles it keeps launching at you. Keep your distance and keep attacking it to take it down.

After beating the Kusabi, you’ll see the Crimson Butterfly land on a diary near the torii gate. Pick it up to collect the Final Letter.

Follow the path forward, and you’ll spot Mayu standing oddly up ahead. You can snap a photograph of her from here.
Head toward Mayu to trigger the final cutscene and get the Crimson Butterfly Ending.
Side Stories: Akane Kiryu Walkthrough
Continued after part 1 in Fatal Frame II Remake Walkthrough Chapter 8 – The Waning Moon.

After Mayu gets taken, head toward the Kiryu House – Front and enter through the main door.

Go to the Doll Maker’s Room, where you found the Doll Manual, to solve the Earthly Gate Puzzle. You’ll see a Spirit event when you go inside.
When the Spirits disappear, pick up the other half of the Blue Crystal from the ground.

As soon as you do so, you’ll get attacked by a Twin Doll. Take it down.

Turn around and pick up the item pinned under the fallen partition screen. This gives you the Photo: Minakami Cemetery.

At this point, the door will open, and you’ll see the spirit of the doll thanking you for freeing her. This will also complete the Side Story.
