Flesh Made Fear – Rotwood Forest Walkthrough

Flesh Made Fear

Rotwood Forest is the first area in Flesh Made Fear. Depending on the character that you’ve picked, you might find certain unique locations in this area. However, the path merges into one later on, and the latter half of the area is mostly the same for both characters. For more information on Flesh Made Fear, visit their official Steam page here.

Introduction

As soon as you start the new game and pick your character, the intro cutscene will begin. The scene showcases Dr. Ripper and how he became what he is before the scene shifts back to the R.I.P. squad, which is on its way to the town of Rotwood. The squad is currently looking for Cole, a member of the R.I.P. who has gone missing in Rotwood, while also trying to track down Dr. Ripper.

The squad approaches the town, but the bridge has been raised. From here on, Bill, the person in command, orders Jack and Natalie to take one of the two paths leading to the other side and then lower the bridge, so the squad can cross safely.

Bill orders Jack to go west, while Natalie is ordered to take the path leading east. You’ll only be able to take the path your character has been ordered to take.

The East Path

If you’ve picked Natalie to start the game, you’ll have to take the east path to reach the other side of the bridge. The path leads to Rotwood Campgrounds.

There’s a broken ATV in the middle of the path, and you can also find a pack of .40 caliber bullets in it. Keep going straight until you reach the campgrounds.

Rotwood Campgrounds

The shed has been burned down completely. Natalie suspects wolves or bears, but there’s something a lot worse going on around here.

Natalie suggests that Marcus, her partner, search the tents, while she looks around the campgrounds for any information. You’ll have to exit the tent area and look in the RVs nearby. One of the RVs is locked, with wooden planks on its door; skip it and move to the other RV.

There’s a map of the area on a table outside the RV. Pick the map and go inside. There’s a journal tape on the table inside. A little deeper in the RV, you’ll find the Campground Key.

Take it and go out, you’ll be able to unlock the door outside the tent area.

The Old Windmill

On your way out of Rotwood Campgrounds, you’ll see a Ripper Tape tree. Keep heading straight ahead. You’ll also find a bike here, but it’s missing the Spark Plug. The path ahead is blocked, and you’ll need a working bike to jump across. However, there’s another pathway leading further into the forest.

There’s an RV here. Get inside, and you’ll find a rock-themed calendar with the date 4/20 marked on it. Deeper into the RV, you’ll find a locked box. Put the code 4 2 0 in it to unlock it, and you’ll find a Spark Plug inside. Bring the Spark Plug back to the bike, and Natalie will be able to jump across easily.

A little further ahead, there’s an old windmill. You can get inside. It’s a safe space, and you’ll be able to save the game here. Once you’re done, get out of the windmill and progress ahead. There’s a half-broken ladder on the very edge of the path. You can use it to get to the other side of the bridge, near the bridge control room and the gas station.

The West Path

If you’ve picked Jack as your character, you’ll have to go to the west path. There’s a lookout tower shortly ahead. You’ll encounter a broken-down jeep in the path. There’s a pack of .40 caliber bullets inside of it.

Keep going ahead until you arrive at the lookout tower.

The Lookout Tower

The gate to the tower is broken down, and there’s blood all over. Jack tries to fix the generator and finds success. The whole area lights up.

Once the area is lit up, Katya asks Jack to check out the tower for anything useful. As you go to the tower above, you’ll find a map of the area inside. There’s also a journal tape and a locked box inside the tower.

If you check out the Journal tape that you found in the tower, you’ll also discover the locked box’s code, which is 329. There’s a key inside the locked box.

The Wooden Bridge

After taking the key, you can go down and unlock the door with the key to progress. Keep going ahead, and you’ll find a mouth-shaped tree with a Ripper’s Tape inside of it.

Keep going on the path ahead until you reach a wooden bridge. The bridge is in a bad shape, and only Jack will be able to barely make it across before the bridge breaks down. There’s a shack shortly ahead.

You’ll be able to save the game inside the shack, and once you’ve done that, you can safely leave it. There’s a place to jump off the cliff near here. Go down and you’ll end up on the other side of the raised bridge, near the gas station.

Bridge Station

If you want to lower the bridge, you’d head straight to the bridge station. Unfortunately, it is locked. There’s a house on the other side of the bridge station.

There’s a box of .40 caliber bullets inside the house. You’ll also find a plushie here, as well as a save station. If you leave the house through the back door, you’ll find another mouth-shaped tree here with a Ripper’s tape inside of it.

Gas Station

With no way to move forward and enter the bridge station, you’ll have to head to the other side towards the gas station. Unfortunately, the gas station is also locked. If you move around the area, you’ll find the toilets.

In the last section of the gents’ toilet, you’ll find a strange body on the ground with a key. As soon as Jack is about to pick up the key, the zombie will wake up. You’ll have to fight against the zombie and then pick up the key to the gas station.

As soon as you leave the toilet, several zombies will arrive in the outer area of the gas station. You can kill them with your handgun. Keep moving around. The zombies are slow, and you’d have enough bullets to kill them all.

After taking care of the zombies, you can head inside the gas station. You’ll find a few zombies inside, but you can take care of them one by one.

If you explore further in the gas station, you’ll find another zombie in what appears to be an office room. There’s a crafting kit and a blood bag here.

Exit the gas station from the other side. There’s a toolshed here. The toolshed can be interacted with to build a bomb, but you’ll need to gather several materials for it. Leave it be, and exit from the other side.

Rotwood Forest Depths

As you enter this area, you’ll find a strange zombie. As they approach you, they’ll bloat and explode, leaving poison in the air.

Instead of wasting bullets on these types of enemies, it’s best to just let them get close, and once they start getting bloated, you have to immediately get away, and they’ll explode.

Keep progressing ahead on the path, and you’ll find a journal tape here on an abandoned police car. There’s a shack here where you can save your game.

Abandoned Sheriff’s House

This shack appears to be the Sheriff’s house, judging from all the tapes found inside, and it is full of mysteries. There are several paths, blocked by one thing or the other. There’s also a ladder leading upwards. If you go up the ladder, you’ll find a zombie here. Kill it and pick up the hammer handle.

The hammer handle alone isn’t enough; you’ll need the other part to take the planks off the path in the living room. If you go to the toilet, you’ll find it full of yellow liquid. There’s also a journal tape in the toilet.

If you go left from where you found the ladder, you’ll enter an area that appears to be a kitchen. There’s a Bloody Fireplace Poker stuck on the side of the shelf. Take the poker and head to the toilet; you’ll be able to drain the yellow liquid with the poker.

There’s a corpse in the bathtub, holding the hammer head in its hands. Pick up the hammer head and head to your inventory. Combine the hammer handle with the hammer head and go to the planks in the living room.

You’ll find a corpse on the bed. There’s also the basement key on the side table. You’ll also notice a blood trail leading to an exit from the room, and if you go through the door, you’ll find a mouth-shaped tree with a Ripper’s Tape in it. Take the key and unlock the basement door, which is near the ladder.

The Basement

As you go to the basement, you’ll hear many strange noises of zombies. There’s a door marked “Don’t Open.” You don’t have to interact with it and just keep heading straight to the room on the other side. There’s a wolf medallion here, alongside a pack of bandages.

If you’ve picked the wolf medallion, start to head back; the locked room will open, leading many zombies to come out of it. You have to run to the other side as fast as possible to create space, and then once you’re far enough, start shooting to kill the zombies.

After killing the zombies, head to the room where the zombies were locked in. You’ll find a metal handle, alongside the key to the bridge station.

Returning To The Bridge Station

Head outside the Sheriff’s house and head back to the path where you came from. Go through the gas station and reach the bridge station.

There’s a blood bag inside the station. Interact with the box-like object inside the station and use the metal handle to lower the bridge. Once the bridge is lowered, you’ll be able to cross to the other side.

However, once you cross the bridge, you’ll find that the squad’s vehicle is destroyed, apparently by a creature with large blades. As you approach the truck, the creature will return, forcing your character to go into hiding. Once it leaves, you’ll be able to move around.

Before you move further ahead, go to the back of the vehicle to find the breach charge, an ingredient to craft the bomb.

Now, you have to go back to the nearby gas station, and you’ll find the path to the trailer park from there. Keep in mind that you’ll encounter a ton of zombies on the way back.

The Trailer Park

There’s a tunnel on the road straight ahead, but it is blocked. You’ll need the bomb to break through the tunnel and enter Rotwood. The trailers here will have all the ingredients that you would need.

You’ll find a locked door with a cylindrical locking mechanism. You can insert your wolf medallion here. Rotate the layers to straighten the medallion, and once you do that, the door will unlock.

As you enter, you’ll find a strange and creepy efigy in the middle of the area. You don’t have to do anything with it. Just search the trailers, and you’ll find the remaining ingredients to craft the bomb.

After you’ve searched the first two containers, two bloating zombies will show up near the efigy. Let them come close to you and explode. Be sure to get away on time so you don’t get damaged by the poison cloud that they leave behind.

There’s another trailer on the other side. But you have to be careful, as there’s a zombie inside of it. After you take care of the zombie, you’ll find the can of fuel inside the toilet of the trailer.

Blowing Up The Rubble In The Tunnel

After gathering all the ingredients, head to the toolshed near the gas station. Put all the ingredients on the table, and interact with the table to craft a makeshift bomb.

Pick that bomb up and place it outside the tunnel’s rubble. The cutscene will show that the rubble is all cleared up, and Jack then proceeds to enter Rotwood, hoping that his other squad members have found a way into the town.
