Muhit Rahman lives off two things: gaming marathons and endless cups of tea. He writes guides, reviews, and occasionally forgets that real life doesn’t come with checkpoints. His favorite genres are Soulslike and Metroidvania, with Dark Souls III, Hollow Knight, and Dota 2 forever holding top spots on his all-time list.
Welcome to Part 4 of our walkthrough for Fretless – The Wrath of Riffson. After defeating the SMR Profitmancer and finally securing a ride to the Festival Grounds, things were starting to look up for our hero. But Rick Riffson, the nefarious villain, had other plans.
As a deadly assassin sabotages the ship, you are left stranded on a mysterious island with no clear way forward.

Stranded at Tunedra

After speaking with the Captain, exit the ship through the large hole in its hull. Before leaving, you can talk to two nearby NPCs for a bit of extra backstory.

Once outside, you’ll find your companions have already set up shop. Take this chance to heal up, stock up on Health and Shield Potions, and make any adjustments to your Instruments at the Mod Bench. When you’re ready, head north to enter Tunedra.

Keep moving north and you’ll eventually find yourself in front of a giant, ancient tree. Watch the cutscene and then talk to the NPC nearby to learn more about the tree. She’ll tell you that it’s called the Triadic Tree, and it acts as a receiver for Sonic Energy.

Your journal will update and show you that you need to find something to place in the Triadic Tree. The only real clue is to follow the squirrel’s trail. There’s a merchant nearby selling some Slap Stone, Fretboard Oil, and Riff Scraps.

Head west to find some Essence of Djent. Keep following the path to the next area.
Following The Squirrel’s Trail

As you go further west, you’ll spot a grey squirrel with a weird item in its mouth. However, it’ll run away as soon as you get near.

Loot the supply chest you see up ahead for some Health Potion. Then continue up the path north to catch up to the squirrel.

You’ll encounter a Bell Snail for the first time. These enemies can be tricky to beat. Direct attacks on them only deal one damage. However, status effects like Echo and Delay will deal their full damage, so focus on using those to bring it down efficiently.

After the fight, continue north and you’ll see another Supply Chest, this time guarded by a Peck Peck. While not as durable as a Bell Snail, the Peck Peck can apply Feedback to allies, giving them Shields and reflecting damage back to you.

Defeat the Peck Peck and loot the Supply Chest for the Capo Mod and some Gold Picks.

Take the path that goes down while heading west for another Supply Chest. You’ll find a Shield Potion.

Return to the main path and head a little further to find a Mod Bench.

Take a few steps forward to trigger a cutscene. You’ll come across an NPC named Nelson being cornered by a giant snake. This kicks off a mini-boss fight against the Oboe-A-Constrictor. It has a large HP pool and can remove cards from your deck, but with a solid Instrument setup, the battle shouldn’t be too difficult.

With the monster defeated, Nelson sails away on his speedboat. But not before rewarding you with the Clouds Pedal.

Continue moving east, and you’ll encounter two more Bell Snails. There are some Slap Stones east of the monsters. On the west, you’ll find some Stray Volts.

Go north and you’ll see two Peck Pecks waiting for you. Just above them, there’s a small path leading up. You’ll find a Riff Statue for Eight Strings here.

Defeat the two Peck Pecks and continue up the path.

You’ll find the squirrel in a small clearing up a set of stairs. Once you get close, it’ll trigger a cutscene, and the squirrel will run away, leaving the Melody Relic behind.

With the Melody Relic in your possession, make your way back to the Triadic Tree. Interact with the pedestal on the left in front of the tree and choose to place the Relic to open up the next path.
Finding the Second Relic

Take the newly opened path to the east of the Triadic Tree. Right away, you’ll spot a Supply Chest on your left containing the Penta-Pickup Mod and 100 Gold Picks. Keep heading east to enter the next area.

Moving forward, you’ll come across a Peck Peck and a Bell Snail. Defeat them and grab the 150 Gold Picks from the nearby Supply Chest.

Continue along the main path until you meet a new NPC named Lauren. He’ll ask for your help finding his missing dog. There’s a Mod Bench just to the left of the house that you can use to update your setup. Check the note on the barrel beside the house to learn more about Lauren’s past involvement with SMR. Take the northern path to enter the next zone.

Here, you’ll have to face two Peck Pecks and a Bell Snail all at once. It’s a tricky fight if you’re not careful, so pace your attacks and prioritize controlling Feedback and status effects.

Keep heading due east. On your left, beside a set of barrels, you’ll find another note you can read for a bit of added lore.

Just up ahead is a wooden bridge. Cross it and collect the Stray Volt on the other side.

Continue north, and a cutscene will play. You’ll spot Lauren’s dog, but he won’t come back just yet. To get him to return, you’ll need to retrieve his ball, and to do that, you’ll first have to help a pack of wolves.

Head east to trigger a fight against two Oboe-A-Constrictors. Once they’re defeated, open the Supply Chest behind them to receive a Cure Potion and the Sample And Hold Mod.

Return to the dog and watch as the wolves help retrieve the ball. With the task complete, head back to Lauren. After a short cutscene, you’ll be rewarded with the Rhythm Relic.

Make your way back to the Triadic Tree and interact with the pedestal on the right to place the Rhythm Relic, unlocking the path to the next area.
Finding the Last Relic

Placing the Rhythm Relic unlocks a new path heading north into a snowy area. Move along the wooden bridge in front of you.

You’ll see a supply chest on your left. But the two ice crystals nearby will crack when you get near, similar to the Xylomander Eggs in Timbre Faults. You’ll find a new type of enemy inside them called a Harperfly.
Harperflies aren’t particularly tough, but they gain Filter at the start of their turn, which boosts their attack power.

Once the fight is over, loot the chest to receive the Gold Strings Mod and a Health Potion.

Get back on the bridge and continue heading west. At the bottom of the nearby stairs, you’ll find another note, and just ahead is a Mod Bench.

Go north from the Mod Bench to encounter another set of enemies. This time you’ll be facing a Peck Peck, a Harperfly, and an Oboe-A-Constrictor.

Defeat the monsters, and loot the Supply Chest on the left for a Crescendo Potion. On the right, you’ll find the Harmony Relic, the final piece for the Triadic Tree.
Return to the tree and interact with the middle pedestal to place the Relic.
Reaching the Bass Camp

Take the newly opened path and head northwest. You’ll come across a Riff Statue that unlocks new Riffs for your Synthesizer, as well as a Supply Chest containing a Cure Potion.

Keep heading west, and you’ll meet an NPC named Scientist Lucy. Speak with her to get some context on what lies ahead, then continue into the next area, Harperbeast Cave.

There’s not much you can do here for now, so keep moving west. You’ll eventually arrive at your next major destination, the Bass Camp.
That concludes part 4 of the Fretless – The Wrath of Riffson walkthrough. You can find the walkthrough for part 3 along with the rest of the parts in our walkthrough hub for the game.
