Garden of the Demon Lord can be completed before or after Goldleaf Bank, depending on what ending you’re striving for. Note that you can also complete the Garden after completing the objectives in the Goldleaf Bank.

Garden Of The Demon Lord

You can reach the Garden of the Demon Lord after exiting the Mines of Echoing Cries. This area, on its own, is quite small. All you can do at first is go and talk to the Demon Lord.

When you talk to the Demon Lord for the first time, they’ll give you a charm to detect the real chest. Once you return to your shop, Lucius Goldleaf will approach you, and he’ll give you a charm of his own.

Lucius tells you that he’ll allow you to succeed if you can find the three hearts of the Demon Lord, which have been hidden inside the murals.

The charm given to you by Lucius allows you to dive into the murals. Each mural offers a unique challenge and is incredibly tricky to navigate, as you’re unable to use the map there and can only leave after obtaining the heart.

The First Mural (Cathedral Of The Nameless God)

The first mural is in the Cathedral of the Nameless God and can be easily reached by teleporting to the East Cathedral statue. Don’t forget to equip the charm that was given to you by Lucius.

When you reach the mural, you’ll find Miyazaki the Goodman already standing here. Talk with Miyazaki and then interact with the mural, and you’ll be transported to the painted world.

As you arrive in this painted world, head left. There will be a hook warden. You can go from under it to the other side and activate the trap to defeat the warden.

Keep going left. Watch out for the rolling boulder. You’ll have to drop down ahead. There will be a mage here. Avoid hitting any bells and keep going. You’ll then reach the area with the lever.

Interact with the lever to disable the rolling boulder trap. Go further left. You’ll find some swinging traps. There’s a chest in the bottom left corner. You’ll find a charm inside, but the location of this chest is important, so keep it in mind.

After going through the area, you’ll arrive on the other side, where you’ll find a lift. Take the lift, and you’ll reach the top floor.

There are some drones and a hook warden here. You have to run away from everything and keep going right. Eventually, you’ll arrive at a dead end where you can fall down.

Go down and keep going down. At the bottom, you’ll have to kick the staircase. There’s a room to the left, but the heart won’t be there. Now, you have to go to the top floor again.

This time, when you’re standing on the edge of the top floor, fall down, but keep holding left; there’s a hidden path directly underneath. Everything looks the same, even the inventory of most enemies will be the same, but it’s an entirely different area.

From here, you have to make your way backwards. Go right to the top floor and take the elevator. Remember the place where you found the chest with a charm inside it?

You’ll find a ladder here. Take the ladder and keep following the path until you reach the room with the heart inside it.

The Second Mural (Burnt Ruins Of Goldville)

The second mural is the easiest to find, as you have to go right from the End of Goldville statue, and you’ll find the mural on the extreme right.

Dive into the painted world. To your left, you’ll find the room with the heart, but there are three gates, each requiring an Old Key.

Keep going right, and you’ll enter a building. There’s a ladder that you can kick in the right side of the house. Kick the ladder and open the chest below. You’ll find one Old Key here.

Now, take the path to the top of the building. There will be a lift here. Take the lift, and you’ll arrive on top of a large structure.

There are invisible platforms here. Jump to your left and deploy the parachute as you go left in the air. There’s an invisible platform in the middle of the air. Open the chest on the platform, and you’ll find the second Old Key here.

Now, you have to drop down and enter the building to your left. There will be a chest on the top floor of this building, but it is guarded by a powerful laser.

You have to go left here. Keep walking. There’s an invisible path going all the way to the building on the right, where you found the first key. There will be a crate here.

Grab the crate and pull it all the way to the second building, across the invisible path. Push the crate against the laser. This will free up the chest where you’ll find the third and final Old Key.

After that, go to the small building with three gates. Use the keys on the gates, and you’ll be able to reach the heart. There’s also a ladder leading downwards. You’ll need a Gold Leaf to unlock the path here.

Here, you’ll find Hendrik’s skull and some lore about what happened to Goldville.

The Third Mural (Mine Of Echoing Cries)

The mural in this area is the most challenging to find. You have to go to the long hallway where the cart was coming from the right to left. Go to the end of this hallway and keep going right until you reach the mural.

This painted world can be quite annoying. You’ll be dropped from a shaft, and you have to make your way down. Once you’re in the bottom section, you’ll find a door to your right with the heart, but it’s locked.

You’ll need a Crystal Key to unlock this door. To your left, you’ll find a lever to dispel the cursed mist below. Now, you have to dispel the mist and go down and take the shaft there.

You’ll return at the entrance, but this is a new area. Do so again and again. On the third run, interact with the door, and you’ll find it unlocked. However, there’s no heart inside it, but you can take the Crystal Key from the chest.

Keep in mind that if the door opens and you find a lift inside it, don’t take it, as it’s a trap and you’ll take considerable damage. Keep doing the runs again until you encounter the door that consumes the Crystal Key.

You’ll find another heart here. Take it, and the Demon Lord will kick you out of the painted world.

Miyazaki The Goodman

After you’ve obtained the three hearts, put them in your backpack and head to the Garden of the Demon Lord. You’ll find Miyazaki here. He asks you to approach the thorn gate on the right and to show it the hearts.

As you approach the gate, Miyazaki will hit you from behind and steal all the hearts. He then runs back to the structure around the statue. Now, you’ll have to fight against him.

Miyazaki will hide for the first time. You’ll have to find him using Advanced Observation. Watch out for the traps he has laid nearby. Approach him without making a sound and steal a heart from him.

Now, he’ll be after you to land a hit on you. Use this opportunity to open the gate with the trap box. After that, just stand up on the ladder. Miyazaki will get hit by the trap’s blades if he approaches the ladder. Don’t forget to push the trap box ahead to destroy it later, so you can safely take stuff from Miyazaki’s body.

If he comes from the above, you can go down the ladder instead. It will take around three hits from the trap to defeat Miyazaki. Note that if Miyazaki manages to land a hit on you, he’ll steal something from your backpack, and he may also hide again instead of pursuing you.

You can pick the hearts from his body once he’s defeated, and then approach the thorn gate. You’ll be allowed to pass.

Fighting The Demon Lord

When you approach this new section, you’ll find the Demon Lord in a weakened state. Approach them and steal. There will be differently colored petals in their inventory.

You have to steal all of the yellow petals. If you’re unable to do so, the Demon Lord will teleport to a different spot on the platforms ahead. However, they’ll be guarded by Skeleton Priests and Wraiths.

If you manage to approach the Demon Lord, press steal again. Note that when the steal bar fills up, the Demon Lord will unleash an explosion, so make sure you get away before the bar fully fills.

After you’ve stolen all the petals, the Demon Lord will create 6 copies of itself. Each copy comes with a unique gimmick. One can smell you, one is invisible, one has a drone with it to mark you, etc.

There’s only one Demon Lord with the true heart, while all the others have cursed false hearts. Jump to the bushes on the middle platform and hide there. Here, you’ll only have to worry about the smelling Demon Lord.

You can use the Coinbeetle Mimic Bells to lure the Demon Lords on the same platform so you can steal from them. Keep in mind that you can discard the yellow petals to make room for the hearts.

If your first attempt is a failure, the Demon Lord copies will surround you. Pay attention because the real Demon Lord will be glowing for a moment there. Avoid their attacks a few times and then go and hide in the bush until the rest of the Demon Lords calm down.

Steal from the Demon Lord that had been glowing earlier, and you’ll be able to steal the true heart. After that, you’ll get a sequence where the Demon Lord asks you to replace them as the new gardener of the gold tree, and it will also lead you to the ending.
